from wiki sociopath -
It is very difficult to recognize a sociopath but in a nutshell, a sociopath is a parasite. There is no help because a sociopath does not want to be helped. A sociopath will attract you with his charm and bring you to his side, then he will toy with you, lie and show no remorse. Sometimes there will be a fake smile in his face while he engages in his malicious ways. When confronted, he will deny any responsibility, then back away from you and blame you for whatever wrong he did. What is worse, everybody will believe him because he is able to gain sympathy in a cunning and calculating way.

The steak and cigerettes could be made up.

It could be a technique they are using to make him feel chatty and comfortable.

There all sorts of reasons it could be going on.
If it is going on at all.
And if it is it will be short lived.

It will also go to show the prisoner was treated well (ie not coerced or tortured).

Right, could be true and a technique to elicit information.
More likely in my mind not true, just a PR release.
Or it could be his lawyer bringing him food for now. Just sounds like a rumor/made up story really though doesn't it?

I always think of sociopaths having an extreme sense of entitlement without having to do any work. They always feel they should get what you have. I had an experience with a sociopath for several years.

Heck, I have traits of being a "sociopath" at some point in my life.

Has anyone here every done this?
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive.
For once I can say...nope! There are so many dysfunctional groups I could probably claim ownership to...but not this one.

They don't have friends...only victims.

I hope we get to see the actual charging document.

Hmmm I just checked foxnews.com and they do not have this info about charges being filed...I am so tired I could fall off the sofa, but now I feel like I must find the truth in this, lol!

I'm not believing it - yet. I think this local channel got confused with him being transferred.

Thank you newone, I was able to find that article...the problem is that is the only one reporting it...I need to see mainstream reporting for me to believe, lol! (heck, even then I'll question something!):blushing:

ps. I think I may be a sociopath after reading Patty's description:crazy::crazy::crazy: well the need for stimulation and the moving around alot without a realistic plan fits me at this moment in my life, so I guess I am a partal sociopath, lol!

The sociopath I was involved with had been babied and coddled for many years by his parents. I think that's where the sense of entitlement comes from. They can't understand why everyone doesn't give them everything, after all mommy and daddy do.

The 15k wired payment enabled them to charge him with wire fraud, they wanted to get him with as many charges as possible.

Yupper, they wanted to wire some of the money so they could charge him with "wire fraud". They weren't going to charge him with the $10,000.00, initially, and that was one of the reason they sat back until they wired the money.

The Alabama Attorney General indicated that they didn't have enough evidence to move forward with the $10,000.00.

We have to take FBI out and put in US Attorney General.

I've done it before. Not so smart I know but I have. We don't know what they were talking about or doing to make her go with him. It doesn't matter really. She didn't deserve what happened.
When you are that age, and even older, you just don't think, especially that something bad would happen. Or you think but you think if anything happens you can handle yourself. You go because you like the guy, you are having fun, you don't want the night to end, you are young and carefree, you want to have sex, you want to get high. I did it. My friends did it. My friends' friends' did it. That said, Stephany was gay and was with her friends beforehand so I don't think the above reasons apply in this situation. They were at a casino so they didn't need to go to his hotel to play online poker--unless she wanted to see how that was done and he said he would show her. Supposedly she had a fight with her dad who didn't want her going to the casino. Her friends wanted to go home. So in a powerplay with dad, he was her ticket to stay out. Or she befriended him and they were going to get high together. These things happen every day all across the world--they just don't usually end up with murder. It is such a tragedy.

No issues with the forum here - working as usual.

I would hope that the FBI would at least share that information with the Peruvian authorities.

Oh, I'm sure they're aware of it by now. But it won't affect his charges, IMO.

Ahh...good question. I never really thought about it from that perspective...can't seem to get away from the "would've, should've, could've"...lol..

It's certainly a thought provoking question. In most "stings" isn't the money "ear marked" and traceable? I haven't read / seen anything in this case to indicate that this money might have been...in fact, I'm not even sure how they would do that via wire transfer. So, not sure we will ever really know where it went...but agree, if we know what he was spending it on, it might tell a little more about his mindset.

This also made me wonder...did he have any money in the bank or left at all? I know about the statement(s) from friends re: he's broke...but not sure how true that might be. But...I'm confident his accts have been checked by now and if there was money there / left with all this "sting" "extortion" news, I'm sure we would've heard it by now.

According to the Affidavit (http://media.al.com/spotnews/other/...ortion case against Joran van der Sloot.pdf):

$100 - April 15th
$10,000 - May 10th
$15,000 - May 10th

All I can surmise is he lost big...if he doesn't have any $ left. Losing that much, that fast gambling...might have very well been "a trigger"...one of many, IMO.

He may have used some of it, even alot of it, to pay gambling debts.
