I don't understand why the family and the attorney are slamming the public defender. It sounds like he helped Joran to come up with a plausible story with the least amount of culpability. Certainly much better than the story he told Chilean authorities about the corrupt Peru LE officers who were responsible for this.

I also thought I had read something much earlier that indicated that there is a special section in the prison where "special" prisoners can be put for their own protection.

bolded by me.

The usual Mark Geragos-style lawyer tactics...throw enough stuff at the wall, whether it's true or false doesn't matter--maybe eventually something will stick...

As far as the prison: I'm surprised they have room to house "special" prisoners in those prisons!

Do we know if he speaks Spanish?

If JVS thought it was barbaric during the interrogations wait until he gets to either of these prisions he wont know what hit him.....IMO that is when you will see him try and spill the real truth about NH thinking that he will be transffered to Aruba to stand trial for her murder since it happened first....His mother & Attorney will be trying anything and everything to get him out of Peru and back to his home country to be in prision there...I don't think any of it will work, but I still bet they will sure try it.

From what I've heard the only person that can grant him a pass to serve time in Aruba is the president and if he wants to remain president I don't think he will do that.

When I went to the link, I only saw 'wallpaper'. What did I do wrong?

I ended up perusing some videos that I couldn't understand!

You did not do anything wrong. It was a link for a live feed earlier. That live feed has now ended and you only get the wallpaper stuff.

Thanks for posting the pics. He is in picture #2, and I just want that the smirk is gone from his face. Instead, the look is one of scared beyond belief. MOO

Your welcome...they just added a 6th pic of Mr. Flores leaving after speaking with Joran.

JeanC Live: reporting that VDS is still at the Public Minister's office (similar to our prosecutor's office)
- just got off phone w/VDS's attorney who said public defender was a buddy of police in the community; he is concerned for VDS's safety, and was assured would be put w/low-level offenders

Even "low-level offenders" will injure of kill another prison for money. Just saying... I do hope he gets to stand trial, but Peru is not going to treat him any different than what their justice system currently does for other prisoners. And that is the crux of it right there - based on the videos posted here on the prisons in Peru no choice is going to guarantee Joran's safety.

I think they will keep him from being killed. I really think they are trying to do this right and they aren't going to let anything happen to him.

I agree. They know the whole world is watching this unfold.

Do we know if he speaks Spanish?

In some of the videos where they were making him sign papers before they fingerprinted him and also when they were checking in the money and other belongings he was speaking spanish...He may only speak a little and not be fluent but he appears to be able to speak and understand some...I am happy they have had a translater though that way they can't say that he did not understand what was being said.

wouldn't surprise me though if he still tried
in fact, I expected it to be part of his complaint about the coercion

This is going to be the "murder" trial of the century.

That is the conundrum. Do not want to give him too much preferential treatment, yet do not want his life taken prior to trial and with the world watching Peru.

Wow, things are so different in Peru, that is for sure. Wonder what transpired in that meeting? what did Mr. Flores say to Joran? what did Joran say, if anything? This meeting intrigues me - God Bless Mr. Flores. I cannot imagine meeting face-to-face with the person who murdered my daughter. What a terrible moment in his life. MOO

I wonder how long it will take to get this trial started? When I watched the National Geographic show about the Peru prision there was a guy that had been in prision 18 months and still had no attorney or trial date, So I just wonder if it will be a couple of years before they will get him to trial, if that is the case I don't think he will make it..
