If those cab drivers accepted a lot more than the normal fare for that distance, they could be a serious doodoo if proven.
Still stuff like this happens probably all the time. They could have killed him and taken all of his possessions if they were truly hard core criminals.
IIRC, weren't the taxi drivers in possession of Stephany's credit cards, or at least according to Joran?

That is really pathetic. He ain't going back to Aruba until he finishes his hopefully long sentence in Peru. Aruba knows this and their cover up by the good ol' boys club cronies are probably thankful for this. Especially if the body is not where Joran thinks it is.

While I agree with you, I also wonder why Aruba would even spend the money to go down to interrogate him when they had so many chances to do so already. Why would they now try to act like they are actually serious about enforcing the law?

snipped:

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

* Investigators hope cooperation will shed light on 5-year-old case of missing American teen
* Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot is accused of killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores last month
* Aruban authorities will travel to Peru to interview van der Sloot

<snip>

Stein did not indicate when the request would take place or when Aruban investigators are expected to arrive in Peru, but described the meeting as a "positive start" to information sharing that many Arubans hope will shed more light on the Holloway case.

Holloway's father, Dave Holloway, met with Aruban authorities on the island Tuesday and told CNN he believes progress is being made in the investigation. He declined to elaborate further.

Thanks for this- sounds like the wheels of justice will move on for the Holloway case.

I don't think you get pancreatic cancer from eating foreign food.
I didn't quite understand either what the reporter was saying about the food. I thought Joran was afraid of food poisoning, and that being the reason for him eating what the prison personnel are fed. I hadn't heard anything up to now about ones body not assimilating to the native diet and becoming ill. MOO

On another note:

John Ludwick, the guest on NG last night who was defending Joran accepted my friend request on Facebook. I was very surprised that he did so.

He is glorifying in his new found fame. He mentioned that he will be on the show in a few days.

One of his friends said maybe you'll be in a movie now, his response, "I hope so".

The Aruba International School certainly would have taught mandatory Castillian Spanish, English and may be some other languages.
When I went to school in The Netherlands, English ,French and German were mandatory after sixth grade. Spanish was an elective, so was Esperanto.
Papiamento is an interesting mix of various languages and spoken in the Dutch Antilles. Portuguese is also mixed in it. It kind of reminded me of Esperanto, a man made international language that really never took hold.

Thanks, Rotterdam. It's hard for Americans to imagine the emphasis other countries place on learning languages. Even some of our best high schools no longer have a foreign language requirement and many of our top universities have reduce the requirement to one year.

I do know the origin of Esperanto, but I had no idea it was still being formally taught.

How cane they forensically determine that JVDS hit SF first?

A late attempt at damage control, maybe?

What I'm not understanding, especially with the public outrage against Joran as we've seen so far, is would the Peruvian government even consider releasing him to Aruba or anywhere else to serve a murder sentence? :waitasec: The way this is being discussed, it's like there's even a remote chance of it happening. I don't think so. MOO

I'd feel a whole lot better if they DID leave him in the Peruvian jail. We already know Aruba let him walk in the NH case. Who knows..They might have to let him walk in the US on this extortion case due to a technicality on the sting operation!!

I have known of one's to be extremely ill if they did not eat with a tour guide in Peru. Although Joran seemed to be quite the traveling boy.

Why can't they send someone from the Embassy...........
This is just plain PR lip sevice, in my book.

IMO

That's what I'm thinking too! And since there is no "prisoner transfer treaty" between Peru & Aruba what would be their guarantee he'd even serve a sentence there? I just can't imagine Peru releasing him ~ to anyone. MOO

How sad that this guy needs to get his self esteem from a monster like JVDS!

I know people can become ill if they're not accustomed to any native diet, however, in this case it was reported over the past weekend that Joran was afraid of someone trying to poison him. Big difference, imo! MOO

He used to live in Thailand! Isn't Thai food HOT? Maybe he has an iron stomach.

I don't think Peru would even entertain the idea of letting him go to Aruba.
Just being polite, instead of H*** NO

I think they are referring to bacteria, that would give him er...the runs.

Wow, how do most children perform learning all those languages at one time? Ive been under the impression that some people have a good mind for learning languages and some do not (like me:loser:). I can learn on paper but can't think quickly to speak (or remember what I tried to learn yesterday) without great effort. When I went to the language lab at school, I'd put the headphones on to listen to Spanish ~ the speaker would be talking so fast I was unable to distinguish one word from the next.

Are most Dutch children able to learn one or two additional languages fluently? Do they teach the language by only speaking the language or through books?
