IMO, I don't think JVDS has taken into account the fact that it was all taped. I believe he is so used to lying and changing his story that he just keeps doing it. it is in the best interests of LE and anyone who has a discussion with him to film or tape that meeting so that he can be caught in all the lies.

He kepts making that same mistake, doesn't he?

I didn't catch anything that stated: "if today's proceedings were in another courtroom that the computer would be opened and checked by forensics experts."

I don't want to assume it would be the same, however, it is possible this is how they do it in Peru. IMO, I like the idea that the computer would be examined in the court. In US cases when the computer goes out to forensic experts, the general public and attorney's always put out: "How do we really know this was on the computer and not planted?" :crazy:

I can totally see the PLE saying, 'Sure... sure, buddy. Just tell us the truth and we'll send you right on back to the Netherlands. Just put your signature right here.'

Just listened to the Steph Watts blog radio program from yesterday. He just got back from Aruba and spent some time talking to locals and friends of JVS, amongst other things. They had some interesting stories to tell re: his childhood escapades. One involving his younger brother, Sebastian, that is distressing.

Since I guess this may be considered rumormongering, you can listen for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Thank you for providing this link -- I listened to the whole show and was delighted to hear about the reporters (PAID) interviews with JVDS in Thailand
and his recreational use of altering substances right in front of her. In Thailand there are big penalties for such use and that apparently did not bother him. The incident regarding his brother left me totally stunned.....I cannot relate. I would have been in police custody if I had done that to one my siblings -- I am still bewildered.

I wouldn't think so. Seems they have PLENTY to convict. But, it's my understanding that if JVS choses to speak, he could get a reduced sentence. So he may be shooting himself in the foot by remaining silent.

And if he DOES speak and lies again ... wouldn't that be construed as obtstruction?

I was once lucky enough to have dealings with a sociopath. He claimed he was an investment banker with an office in Manhattan when he was actually conning people out of money. The man was a charmer -- but he isolated all his friends and acquaintances from each other (would tell you "so and so is a bad person, you should not talk to them") so as to try to prevent people from sharing stories about him with each other so we can find out what he was really doing. He lied all the time -- and lied convincingly. Once you've met someone like this, you become suspicious of everyone you meet thereafter!

Just have to wonder if Joran was initially "working" on Stephany over those several days to get her to be his partner in crime, say to rip off other people, then realizes she's balking at the suggestions, so he decides to make her the mark.

Plus, she only had that tiny wallet...even 10 $1000 bills wouldn't have fit in there.

Or maybe it was 10,000 soles, which only equals about $4000. But from what I found on Google, the largest paper currency in Peru is 200 soles...so that would be 50 200-soles bills...they certainly wouldn't have fit in that small purse.

I don't think she had that much on her. Even when she opens her purse on the casino video, it does not appear to be overflowing.

Could she have locked it in the glove compartment of her car and VDS got it when he left in her vehicle?

Yes... he was referring to the interview he did with Greta VS in Thailand where he was paid a licensing fee for a chip that had him and father (supposedly) discussing the disappearance of Natalie - where he threw his father under the bus. I say 'supposedly' because it was widely believed that it wasn't his father's voice on the tape - that it was Joran, lowering his voice to try to sound like his father.

He also said that Melody received 150 grand for her diary. I hadn't hear that amount before.

A most interesting and enlightening show, IMO.

BTW, Steph Watts is a male.

Joran seems to have a totally different attitude towards women than he has towards men. I don't think Joran would ever consider a woman as a partner in anything. I think, in Joran's view, Stephany was always good for just what he could get from her.

IIRC, a WS member found that they also have 1000 soles bills and posted a picture of the 1000 soles bill.

Kamille, do you think prior to the murder that he was already fishing around for someone slimy enough to help him dispose of her body?

I suppose anything is possible with this guy. If dumping the body in the ocean is what happened with NH, he might believe that anyone who would do such a thing for a pay off would be guaranteed to keep quiet since they then become an accessory. If that did happen with NH, then it's worked for him so far obviously as no one has come forward.

Does the Judge even need Joran to cooperate with all the evidence he has already?

I believe I remember reading from an earlier thread that the police said they didn't actually need the confession since they had so much evidence. A truthful confession, supported by evidence, would have possibly enabled Joran to get a reduced sentence. I think by renouncing his confession he is only digging his grave deeper. I don't see how an insanity plea could help him either if the Peruvian definition of insanity is the same as the US. Joran was competent enough to realize that the murder of Stephany was wrong. Otherwise, he would not have tried to flee the country.
