If she does know anything, I would imagine she could be seen as an accessory after the fact (please correct me on this if I'm mistaken). Along with anyone else who may still be living who has any information, or who helped in a cover up, and did not/has not come forward. Anita still lives on Aruba and has two other children to think about...if she knows names or information of others involved, she's not going to be speaking anytime soon. I think that's the main reason why she still refuses to acknowledge that Joran may have been involved at all. Even in light of the recent events regarding SF.
In Stephany's case, AVDS knows the facts/evidence and neither her or anyone around her has any culpability so she's okay with admitting Joran's probable involvement. If the truth about NH comes out, it could possibly bring down her entire world, whereas this case only affects her son. The same person who needs her more than ever right now so she's likely pretty confident that he won't be throwing her under the bus any time soon either.
MOO
A few people on this thread are musing about this, so here goes.
The article I asked about at Biography.com included the following: the family relocated to Aruba when Joran was 16.
This is not what the author of Paul's biography ( also noted to show his recent activities as a judge in training ) meant to convey.
In 2003 Paul received an opportunity to train as a judge- completed one year IN THE NL, and returned back to live full time in Aruba when Joran was 16.
this coincides completely with the other events we know. Joran conduct problems, kicking brothers, anger management, sneaking out windows, stealing money, breaking cell phones, etc.
ANITA was a single parent for a year, save Pauls visits back home, when and if he could come home, depending on the schedule of his training and duties in the NL.
Anita was 45/46, single, for the most part, parenting three boys, one of who was not 6" 3' and had a temper. The worst possible circumstances happened all at the same time.
She had a reputation at work to uphold and duties there, and here is her son acting up, maybe making her late for work or unprepared. There is an allegation of Joran apologizing to the entire class, statements form schoolmates, etc.
The boys are relatively close in age but Sebastian would be farther away developmentally than Joran and Valentin. Joran being the oldest and largest.
Valentin has some activities at this time showing he was already exploring some of the same activities as Joran, parties with the pseudo gang symbols, etc, but he is not yet in that league and appears to be a better student, more compliant- he is the middle child typically the mediator/peacemaker in the family, but Sebastiaan is the baby.
Sebastiaan is the brother Jossy Mansur alleges was beaten badly by Joran when Sebatian was around aged 7/8. Valentin is three years older than Sebas, Joran is roughly 3 years older than Valentin.
Joran would have been about 15/16.
Mid Life crisis extraordinaire. Imagine your husband away for a year and trying to defuse situations when the root of your problem lives with you and accompanies you to work, daily.
Joran has " no respect for women " and it is his mother, a woman, who is in charge the year he climbs out windows, is drinking alcohol, etc.
Paul isn't around to take him to play tennis, Joran doesn't drive and it is easier to allow him to get away with friends, have them over for sleepovers than to try to entertain him and keep him in line with the other children in the house needing attention as well.
If Anita ever admits to anything it will be that there were problems that got worse, because of the night Joran met Natalee at CnC. SHe knows full well that she needed to get away from him, too, for that period she was in the NL. Paul was the parent on duty and he had recently failed his final judges exam and was technically out of work.
Big Beach party weekend, teenagers on the streets and no one watching the store- so to speak.
I don't think for a minute Anita will admit to knowing and believing anything other than what she was told. Paul was in charge of all three of his sons that night and he is the one she would have looked to for the truth.
