Next time we see BK he will be in his orange jump suit. Maybe even with a shaved head.

There was something final about seeing Alex Murdaugh when he was sentenced. Decked out in cuffs, leg chains, waist chain. Orange jumpsuit, completely bald. Still defiant to the end. Something is wrong with these people.

This reminds me. It does not seem unprecedented that he colored his hair. Look at the selfie, that looks like a self dye job on the red side. I honestly think he was trying to cover something else there. I find this super suspicious following events. 28-year-old men do not dye their hair, let alone red. JMOO

(I think you have to scroll down to June 2025 to locate the thumbs up selfie)

thanks - those pictures really illustrate my question well but maybe it's just lighting - I left the selfie picture off because it really creeps me out

BK will never have to worry about shoestrings again, the prison will provide with plastic slippers until his death.

Another 360° view of BK's apparent route home.

It's vast, lots of turns... would have been foggy and pitch black... how did he know the way????? And if he stopped somewhere to hide his kill kit, how would he ever find that spot again? Could he have had another device just for navigation? Like a Garmin and pitched it?

so he lived in the country? I thought he lived in town

He lived in graduate housing at WSU. GH filmed BK's apparent, circuitous route home. It's theorized that he stopped along the way to discard/bury his kill kit, possibly only temporarily.

Pretty desolate route in places.

I tend to think MM was his target. Pink boots in the window. He walked right up there to her room, and based on his searches that we now know, I do question whether he had planned some sort of sexual interaction. I agree with others who have said that that led to his rage at Kaylee being there to ruin his fantasy. Why she was so battered by him.

Unless he ever tells the truth, we will never know, but I do think it is possible that he thought he could get in and only have his fantasy with Maddie and slip out.
Thanks. I had the same thoughts.

Yes they have barbers in prison. And the barbers have access to scissors. And are supervised by security staff. As far as dying their hair, no It's not allowed. Although the Inmates will come up with all manners of ways to color their hair. But it's short lived because it's against policy. And they will recieve a write -up that usually results in some kind of loss of privileges.
In 1997 when Darlie Routier was going to trial for the murder of her 5 year old son, she threw a hissy fit because she wanted her dark roots touched up, as she had dyed her hair blonde. The judge did approve it, but I don't know if they brought someone in to do it or handed her a box of Lady Clairol.
Hard to find a link from back then, so I'll just say IMO.

I don't think LE would have even let university admin come up to talk to the kids, especially not before they had been interviewed.
It was a crime scene. And certainly any roads or walkways coming near the area would have been blocked.

Regarding early small town mistakes: my father was the mayor (unpaid) of our very small town in a largely rural area. We had one part-time police officer; other coverage was from the state police. Once when a man upset about some romantic problem barricaded himself in a local bar, my father left his work 15 minutes away and got to the bar, went in and talked the guy down before the State Police (40 minutes away) could get there. He and other (unpaid) town officials dealt with fires, floods, car accidents, suicides, runaway canoes on our scenic river. They were highly competent at running a small town. Hardly anyone ever interviewed them about anything. But I can't imagine what they would have done with the quadruple murder of 4 college students had they been accosted with TV cameras, microphones, cell phones snapping photos.

Really, I pay no attention to those early missteps. Inside of 7 weeks, they called in the FBI, took all the help they could get, and collectively solved a stranger homicide that involving 3 states. Most major cities would have struggled to handle that crime scene, both forensically and in human terms, dealing with traumatized college kids. I agree with you that they were too competent to let others willy-nilly have access to the wider crime scene.

Edited to add: I forget to mention that the guy in the bar had a gun. For me, that was a given, this being rural northwestern PA.

I hesitate to drudge stuff up, but here I go. I re-watched the Dateline special after watching the Prime series (as my memory isn't the best and just wanted to fill in gaps). One of the experts in the Dateline special spoke about a search BK did about "drugs" and "sleeping". I think what he planned and what happened are two different things. Do you think he intended to drug his victim? Sorry if this is clumsy.
I think anything is possible with this murderer. Then I wonder why weren't drugs found on him <modsnip>. Maybe if he had found Maddie alone, things may have been different??

I think he was angry of being rejected by the type of women HE wanted and fantasized about having, those who didn't give him the time of day due to his totally off putting, creepy vibes. I believe his rage kicked in.

oh ok it really looked coloured to me
so would they actually hire a barber to provide services in jail?
I can't believe that's allowed
Well, the Defense was allowed to provide barber services or one of them was really handy with a pair of scissors and a razor because the murderer was having his hair and brybrows (@Megnut) maintained. LOL

Pfftffft, his 'evil confession' consisted of Yes and Guilty. Coward and Master Manipulator IMO.
Although I do feel for his parents.

Inside Reporting The Idaho Four: Tramping Around The Woods In The Poconos

Vicky Ward also mentions taking a ' tour ' with King's Road neighbour Lexier The latter said that when she's come home from work and park at the back she often saw Maddie through the window, Maddie at her vanity, curling her hair and getting ready for a night out.

Maddie was already drugged (by alcohol)—so much so that she was unable to defend herself when BK so brutally attacked her. Only BK knows what he had planned to do to poor Maddie had Kaylee not been in bed with her.

<modsnip - off topic>

The selfie is 1) of incredibly low quality and 2) depends on where the source got it from--did they get it from the court filing (in which cases they got it by doing a screenshot from the pdf of the court document), which is where most news articles got it from originally or did they do a screen grab from the Amazon special (which was also likely from a screenshot of the pdf of the court document--so that's a screen shot of a screen shot).

This is the court document that had the photo (scroll all the way to pg 17):

You'll notice a lot is off about the picture--the background has a weird pink tint to it as do the bathroom shower tiles and his white dress shirt. The original image would have had plenty looking "off" about it because it was taken in a bathroom under what was likely fluorescent lighting, messing up the colors. And from looking at previous BK selfies from years prior to this, the boy can't take a good selfie--always too dark or too washed out.

The official AP photos of the plea hearing have the issue of being taken with him in front of a semi transparent white window covering in the court room on a sunny afternoon. That light as well as the extreme shortness of his hair on the sides makes the hair look lighter. Even the top is shorter, so he's got less hair product in it, making the top look lighter than when his curls on top were longer and full of a lot of hair product to tame them the way he wants. I've only found one photo of him where he wasn't directly in front of that window, and even in that photo he's only just off to the side of it:

https://i.abcnewsfe.com/a/a545f592-...rger-03-ap-jt-250702_1751477525301_hpMain.jpg

(from this article: Bryan Kohberger admits to Idaho college killings in plea hearing)

As far as BK’s hair goes, I think @gremlin444 nailed it on the head. The combination of lighting, shorter hair, and less hair product explains BK’s relatively pale hair at the plea hearing. As @INfisherman said a while back, the hair of brown-headed men who were blond as children (like BK) can look much lighter when their hair is cut very short.

This Azget Industries video (discussed here and by Josh Ritter and Kevin Fixler in this video) hypothesizes that BK pre-dug a hole for his kill kit on a Sand Rd pullout with trees, just across the Idaho-Washington border. If true, BK would have practiced getting from the crime scene to his hidey-hole well ahead of the crime. He is obsessive and would not have left it up to chance that he’d find the perfect place to perhaps temporarily hide his stash right after the murders.

He was so enraged from being the weirdo whom all females rejected that I don't doubt he was going to absolutely mutilate her body in untold ways as revenge against women.

Only because there were 2 in bed that his master plan was paused. Which made enough noise that 2 other people were killed in the aftermath.

It sickens me to no end that this worthless piece of human feces exists.

I pre-ordered The Idaho Four: An American Tragedy on Audible, and it is now in my Library. I look forward to listening to it while doing my long-delayed spring cleaning over the next three days before company arrives for a long visit. Now if I can just get my sisters up to speed on the case….

Just watched the first episode of the Amazon documentary. Those poor kids 😢 Hunter J in particular has the same thousand-yard stare that a lot of the troops coming home from Afghanistan had. Just heartbreaking
