Prosecutor Bill Thompson said state reached out to all families after defense brought up plea agreement. We understand the difference of opinions among the families, he said. The state wanted him to plead guilty as charged, and defense agreed.

Photos of Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan are being shown in court as Thompson announces the sentences. Hopefully, now it's time to move forward. Can't undo the horror that occurred on Nov. 13, 2022, at 1122 King Road, he said.

She was so, so brave.

Yes, so very proud of her. I believe she took a step from Victim to Survivor today. The way she has been treated in social media has been beyond disgusting.

Maybe she can try and begin to heal and move forward with her life without the unbearable pain and guilt she has carried around for almost 3 years.

I can't see victim impact statements having any impact on the verdict as they are only heard and considered post verdict. Sentencing perhaps, but not verdict.

Indeed. Precisely why the Supreme Court held that the statements are - in their opinion - limited by law to immediate family members only and that some defendants have gotten new trials and their convictions overturned because of lower courts not following that.
