Thankful that judge Hippler could find not one redeeming quality in BK !!!!
Not one.

Does anyone know if family is present for BK, I am assuming not?

"by continuing to focus on WHY, we give Mr. Kohberger relevance...power..."

Amen.
and Hippler adds

' IMO the time has now come to end his 15 mins of fame - consign him to ignominy and isolation of perpetual incarceration.
I know there has been concern about him collaborating on books and movies and I truly hope that someone does not give him this spotlight for clicks & profit'

while criminal behaviorists will study him ( for crime prevention) there should be no need to let this spill over into the public eye'

Sigh. I hope we don't see Judge Hippler's comments about everyone who spoke today "designated as victims in our legal system" on an appeal someday.

I believe they are victims, but this issue has been brought all the way up to the Idaho Supreme Court and they have said that the law around victim impact statements applies to "immediate family members". Taylor had a case remanded for new sentencing because non-immediate family members were allowed to speak before sentencing and the highest Court deemed that was going beyond what was prescribed in their state law. I worry that Judge Hippler's comment about everyone today being victims "in our legal system" could totally be exploited on an appeal and they can argue that it is clear that his statement shows a view that does not align with both state law and what Idaho's highest Court has said. ugh.

By continuing to focus on why gives power to #BryanKohberger, said Judge Steven Hippler."Even if I could force him to speak, which legally I cannot, how could anyone know if it was the truth?" #Idaho4

Exactly.

And...any reason would not make sense to normal people. There is no "reason" other than he's a depraved loser who failed at life and destroyed what beauty he could slither his way close to.

Prosecutor Bill Thompson said state reached out to all families after defense brought up plea agreement. We understand the difference of opinions among the families, he said. The state wanted him to plead guilty as charged, and defense agreed.

Photos of Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan are being shown in court as Thompson announces the sentences. Hopefully, now it's time to move forward. Can't undo the horror that occurred on Nov. 13, 2022, at 1122 King Road, he said.

Memories should be focused on innocent victims, Thompson said. "Idaho Four" photo now on screen as prosecutor chokes up.

Thompson said the door will close behind the defendant forever today, and Kohberger will die in prison. That's the closure that's needed, he said.

Kohberger declined to make a statement. Judge Steven Hippler said a faceless coward breached the tranquility of six innocent people and slaughtered them. Person who slithered through that door is in this court. No parent should have to bury their child, the judge said.

Hippler said he's listened intently with great awe at the courage of the victim's families and roommates. Parents, siblings and other family members should be known as survivors, fighters and witnesses.

We should no longer give Kohberger relevance by asking why. He should no longer have our attention. There is no reason for these crimes. No reason makes any sense, Hippler said. Time to end his 15 minutes of fame. Truly hope no one gives him the spotlight.

Hippler said he can't think of one good thing to say about Kohberger. He has not hinted at remorse or regret. He is forever removed from civilized society, Hippler said, and that's the best thing that can be said.

Judge is allowing families to be escorted out of courtroom. The prosecutor and law enforcement will be holding a press conference following the sentencing. The media can ask questions at that time.

Judge reminds [the felon] that filing a notice to appeal might be a violation of his plea agreement and to consult his counsel.

And now he is removed from civilization to die in prison.

  • #1,236
As well as the life sentences , a fine of $50 K and civil penalty of $5K per victim.

  • #1,237
Why is that woman with the black hair sitting next to Kohberger smiling throughout the speech?

  • #1,238
IIRC, there’s a press conference which should be in about 45 minutes time?

I am glad the way this ended. What a DAY!

Did someone in the gallery say, "coward" after the murderer declined to speak?
