There would just be no reason for him to use something like that, and it would leave traces as well. It would draw attention, and give him away.

I'm convinced this was meant to be a single homicide, and he intended to sneak in and out undetected by the rest of the household.

I think Dylan was just really drunk, and she imagined this. There's nothing plausible that makes any sense to me other than that.
I tend to agree that this killer had not planned for more than one murder that night.

And, it is possible that Dylan might have been hearing something but was in and out of the reality realm. It could be that some of what she reported was what was happening and the rest was her brain trying to make sense of it through the fog.

Regardless, it is a heavy burden to bear to be a survivor in that horrible crime and feel that you might have been able to save your friends. She is shattered and will never be able to have a sense of peace without serious help and support for many years.

Wishful thinking?
Firstly thank you so much to all of you posting throughout today's sentencing. You really brought the experience of "live court" here to these pages!

As detailed in the autopsy reports, Kaylee was stabbed 20 times and her face totally disfigured 😞 as she attempted to "kick his f'kn a55" in defence. Xana was then stabbed 50 times, also fighting back in her defence and he had by that time fatally wounded Maddie, Kaylee and Ethan too.. all in around 12 minutes! Imagine the frenzy of effort from him. Sorry to be graphic but well over 100 knife wounds delivered by a hard thrust, a battering of a face, 2 fights and he was out the door in just 12 minutes! It's kind of incomprehensible really isn't it! The adrenaline that powered all that must have been phenomenal.
I wish he had just keeled over with cardiac arrest at the scene as he made his exit tbh!

Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan, your families did you proud today, they made us all very proud too, what wonderful people! your angel wings must have been fluttering in glee.
Your families can be free of this monster forever now and hopefully begin to heal their grief! Rest in peace up there #Idaho4
bbm @AcerPacer Thx for this ^.
From above post:
".... well over 100 knife wounds... I wish he had just keeled over with cardiac arrest at the scene as he made his exit tbh!"

Would have been waaay better if BK had keeled over from a fatal cardiac event before he entered the house at 1122 King Road.

Not just my opinion, pretty sure it's shared by many.

Agreeing this and other thoughts in above post (sbm).
"Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan....Your families can be free of this monster forever now and hopefully begin to heal their grief!"

At last. Ditto the multitude of others expressing the same feeling.

The DNA on the knife sheath conclusively proves he did it. I don't think you can retract a guilty plea and do a "backsie". The judge clearly asked him about it when he accepted the plea deal. Also there will be a recording of his confession in which it was clear that he wasn't pressured. In fact, I read today that the prosecution revealed that it WAS his defense attorney who proposed the plea (like I figured). Most likely the knife was dropped into a body of water and isn't recoverable and won't be used in the commision of another crime. The physical knife doesn't tell us what happened in the house, nor can he be forced into any more of an admission. Heck I don't like Alford pleas where they don't have to admit guilt- but this isn't an Alford plea. And there was no need to offer the location of the bodies in this case
I meant to clarify that because you have the knife sheath- you don't need the murder weapon to prove that he was at the crime scene location. It functions like a gun holder and is attached/associated with the murder weapon. There was also the CCTV footage of his car speeding away from the crime scene that did him in. Thanks Dateline!

Hard to imagine the frenzied carnage BK visited upon those poor young students. So much overkill, anger and hatred. I'm at a loss for words......

I no longer can be convinced that the LE stops on the trip from Washington to PA were just "random".

"Kohberger then told a story about seeing an unmarked police car near Kansas City speed up behind him, catch up to another vehicle, turn on its emergency lights, then drive away. Kohberger thought this was strange and was unsure why it occurred"
-- File: Supp 194_Redacted, page 2

I agree.

Several times in the document dump, the witnesses describe what they thought was a firework. Any thoughts on what this could be?

(For citation's sake, most recent I've read this: "At around 0400 or 0420 hours, [she] heard what she thought was a firework and saw a spark on the ground from under her door" - File: Supp 89_Redacted, page 1)
IMO, as I think justirish posted, it could've been a "flashbang":

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

M84 stun grenade
A stun grenade, also known as a flash grenade, flashbang, thunderflash, or sound bomb,is a non-lethal explosive device used to temporarily disorient an enemy's senses. Upon detonation, a stun grenade produces a blinding flash of light and an extremely loud "bang". They are often used in close-quarters combat, door breaching, and riot control, typically to stun enemies or distract them.
..................

Despite their less-lethal nature, stun grenades are still capable of causing harm, and can injure or kill when detonating in close proximity. They are also capable of sparking fires.

@10ofRods
Thanks for clarifying my misinformation regarding TV and iPad. I just don’t understand the need for email.
And to add to this. There is a charge for every e-mail you send and recieve. Just like there is a charge for every phone call you make. And things aren't cheap in prison. For instance a dollar ramen noodle will cost double or triple in the prison canteen. And you make maybe a $1.25 a day for working as a janitor cleaning toilets. And you usually aren't allowed to start working for months. Don't know about Idaho but the state I'm in if you have money in your Inmate account it can be taken to go toward any restitution that has been court ordered. And from what I heard JH put fourth today as far as money being owed to the families someone is going to have to come out of pocket before BK is going to be able to buy a honey bun.

Relative to Idaho v Hansen and "...victim impact evidence from the victim's non-immediate family and friends was inadmissible because non-victims presented the evidence," take note two things are applicable here:

First, whether non-immediate family members are afforded the right to be heard at sentencing and/or deliver a victim impact sentence is at the discretion of the sentencing court, and in this case, Judge Hippler previously ruled the surviving roommates were deemed crime victims.

Second, this case was covered by a fixed sentence plea agreement where the victim impact statements were not going to affect the sentence of the defendant, and there is no disadvantage or concern of prejudice. MOO

he pleaded guilty. He said he murdered Maddie, he said he murdered Kaylee, he said he murdered Xana, and he said he murdered Ethan. There is nothing to overturn no matter who gave an impact statement. I don’t understand why this was brought up at all.

Moo

It was rude when Thompson said that making a decision about the plea wasn’t about a popularity contest. It seems like he wanted to vindicate himself and I think that he cowardly used that time to do so. It wasn’t the time or place for him to defend himself.

He said that he informed each family of it but the Goncalves said he didn’t?
BBM
I appreciate all his hard work, but...I do think he tried to vindicate himself. M00

Yeah, he killed them like the coward he is. Snuck up on them in the middle of the night while they were sleeping. Maybe deep down inside he knows he would have lost a fair fight. Hence the sneak attack. He's disgusting.
And had to wait till they were intoxicated. 😡

It's very likely that especially in a maximum security prison, internet access is controlled and monitored just as phone calls are. And they're not getting the 350 channel cable and streaming package with the TV; in PA they get "basic cable," which is pretty much network and government channels. There are no premium channels. They. have to pay for cable every month and must fill out an application. (I did PA because I was curious about my own state; Idaho may vary).

Bryan Kohberger files reveal terrifying new evidence including signs of a practice run a MONTH before murders

By RACHEL SHARP, CRIME CORRESPONDENT FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

"Bryan Kohberger's victims saw a man lurking in the trees outside their home and found their front door mysteriously open one month before the killer struck, according to newly-released police records.
...
Goncalves had told at least two friends that she had seen a man watching her in the trees around the home.

Surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen - who bravely spoke out in Wednesday’s sentencing hearing - told police Goncalves described seeing the ‘shadow’ when she took her pet dog Murphy outside.

Another friend echoed these [sic] accounts, telling police Goncalves had seen a dark figure staring at her from the tree line when taking Murphy outside.

Mortensen, who was 19 at the time, also recalled one time when she came home to find the door to their three-story house open.

Well there you go- more proof that he WAS stalking them.

Thank you to the members who are ploughing through MPD website's document uploads and copying the contents onto WS.

Unfortunately most of the posts are ' trapped' on the end of the last WS thread, posted by MassGuy & 10ofRods but they are well worth a read.

Sheer number of injuries, discarded black backpack, footprints in snow, a Ka-bar given by an Oklahoma Professor, Loserberger monitoring the emergency services radio and lots more...

I would also like to add this to my post, which is Just My Opinion (JMO) & based on my own memory (MOM) of an interview on MSM very early on with Kaylee's parents I watched that isn't available online anymore (that I can locate again), tying things in to Kaylee being brutalized in different ways than the other victims, IMO:

Her parents said she knew she was being stalked at the 1122 King St house and it was really scaring her, and that is why she moved back to her parent's house before finishing the semester and attending graduation ceremonies.

Her dad said so right away in the first interview I saw when her parents were asked if they had any inkling who they thought could have done such a thing or why, to their daughter.

In addition to her telling her family & friends she knew she was being stalked, and that being the reason her parents said she had moved home before the end of the semester before graduating:

Her dad said that Kaylee was "into true crime online" and (paraphrasing) outspoken about women's & victim's rights, and she could be "ornery like me", and that was the only thing he could think of, why she was stalked and then brutally killed by some sicko, she could have angered and/or become the target of starting on some online forum where they "met". ETA: I know LE/prosecution is still saying there were no obvious electronic communications between the murderer and any of the victims, but what about years before when he was in PA and they were anonymously posting online?

MOO, cuz no source available to link to that interview I can find anymore, in the first few weeks with her parents and her dad giving his best guess and IMO gut instinct feelings about who could have done such a thing to Kaylee. Because there never was any obvious reason, except for MAYBE this... MOO

Also in the new Daily Mail piece which is linked on this WS page ( KG thought she'd seen a figure of a man at the back of the house spying on the house, a month prior )

' Around that same time, a female student living on Queen Road - close to the King Road home - said a man tried to break into her home.
At around 1am on October 14, 2022, the woman heard what she thought was a man walk up to her door and try to open it, the police records reveal.
But the door was locked with the deadbolt on.
It is not clear if the incidents are related and if it is possible Kohberger was carrying out a practice run for the murders one month later. '

Obviously that isn't necessarily BK, could be any student, even a drunk but also recall the reports - back in 2023 -

of the female King Rd student who said somebody had got into her - unlocked - car and been through the suitcase in the trunk? The ' trespasser' had taken out items of underwear and moved them into her car, to make it obvious. ( Too long ago to recall the exact details now but it was very recent, a few weeks before the murders)
