Without grant money, couldn't he apply for a student loan to bridge costs until he could apply for other research or service grants?

Maybe there was something more final in being fired from the TA position - along the lines that he is unsuitable for an academic position and should reconsider his career path.

I would think reassign him- for him to simply be kicked out seems drastic to me, if he came in with good standing.
There may have even been a student swap. Some schools send a MS student to a PhD program of someone they know and accept one from the other program.
I’ve not heard of students being kicked out like that for issues for what has been described as grading issues.
And it seems a confrontation with a Prof. That is a big deal- but even Profs can have egos and go off at times. Usually you work it out.
He was in his first semester- barely started.

IMO

Well, it was A delivery from JITB, but we don't know if it was THE delivery. It likely was, but I can't figure out how the bag ended up there if it was. It had JUST been delivered. I would have expected Xana to grab it and head upstairs. There wasn't enough time for her to eat, right?
Remind me, was it delivered to the front door or the back slider?

I think the point of his standing at WSU being in peril was financial. Without the TA position, he couldnt afford to go to school there.

Unlikely. Most Ph.D. students receive RA or TA positions which include tuition remission and assistantship which covers all tuition and a stipend (used for living expenses). If they lose funding, they likely wouldn't try to pay for it with loans because it's exorbitantly expensive. There aren't other revenue streams that would cover the high costs. The fact that he lost his TA position would make it harder to get other funding, it's like a scarlet letter.

Especially out of state tuition!

yes, I was thinking maybe she got J in the B a lot and there were a few bags- they have receipts with dates on them, and her purchase records, so LE would know. A new level of weird if he took the food, but there are often reports of robbers taking people's food.

I admire strength and resolve, too. But I think all along he was hostile and unfair to the people who solved this crime about as fast as a stranger homicide can be solves, and to the prosecutor, who put the defence in a box that led to the Loser pleading guilty.
7 weeks, that's all it took to have that guy behind bars,
I hear what you're saying about the rest;) I cant even imagine what it would feel like to be in his position.

I, personally, did Not feel like you were trying to shame SG. It just occurred to me that maybe no one told him "don't do that". I also believe the family attorney should have helped him more, but TBH it was probably the first time either had ever dealt with something like this.

Having watched the anguish of parents and a sibling after the murder of their child/sister, I cannot judge anyone for what they say in that situation. JMVHO.

Added NOT. I did NOT feel like you were trying to shame. My most sincere apology for that error. @Rolypolyoly

Absolutely no apology necessary! Please accept one from me though, I didnt take your post as implying I was shaming SG at all 🙂
That part was just a cma disclaimer lol.

I dont think they would have a hard time figuring it out. if she didnt eat it, the food would still be in the bag, ( compare to what was delivered)
how it ended up there?
if you look at that New York post article from Jan 5 University of Idaho student Xana Kernodle got DoorDash delivery just minutes before her murder

it shows 2 pics, same dishes on the counter as in the sink. same starbucks cup, same lipstick on the straw, same levels of liquid, so it looks like someone ( forensics?) must have moved things for testing, when it was appropriate to do so. No idea if that JITB was always there, but its not in the table pic.. Screenshot 2025-07-26 at 11.31.49 AM.webpScreenshot 2025-07-26 at 11.46.07 AM.webp

BBMFF

And conversely... if she did eat it it would be seen in her stomach contents during the autopsy. So either way they'll know if it was eaten by her, or not.

It's not missing from the table picture--it's on it's side, right behind/to the side of the same drink with the straw that it was next to in the sink picture.

Am not disputing the eye witnesses at WSU but how come those facial scratches don't show in the selfie? He edited the image or used a lower resolution?
I haven't found this witness account record in the uploads yet but it's obviously in there somewhere.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on, but my immediate thought when I first saw this photo is that he had applied some sort of makeup or cream to his face in an effort to hide any scratches or marks, and I still have that feeling. I think he could have done this and then taken the photo just in case he "needed" it later. I also wondered if he was wearing gloves in the grocery store to hide cuts, marks, or bruises on his hands after the murders (in addition to wearing them to avoide leaving fingerprints). All MOO.

maybe ? I know that 2 years ago we thought it was microwave popcorn , maybe others can chime in, I dont know if it matters really, it was just about how it could have ended up there. ( by the sink) if it wasnt left there from the beginning, right by the door she used for delivery, then it could have been moved, like the other dishes.
Table pic has no xana sticker, no seal, and looks squashed.

The Door Dash lady's witness statement combined with Gray Hugh's maps and timeline.
It's relatively short - for GH - and he ties it all together.

Explains how DD lady's confusion on the address delayed him and ensured he was caught on the camera which told LE he had no front plate.
With him in a frenzy, can imagine he was getting agitated during this sequence

This cleared up some misconceptions I had about the Door Dash Driver. If Gray's analysis is right the DD threw off BK's plans a bit. His car was seen circling around the neighborhood and being photographed on various cameras while DD was trying to find 1122 King Rd. just before 4AM. However, the DD did not actually see BK when she delivered to the front door and then exited the neighborhood by 4:00.45.

Why does it matter? I guess I'm intrigued by thinking the DD order came close to thwarting BK's plans but in the end, it did not. XK's order was photographed in the kitchen so we know she retrieved it from the front door. Within about 10 minutes of the DD leaving, BK began his attack.

The one odd factor is a neighbor walked past 1122 King Rd. on Sunday morning and observed the front door was ajar. This was several hours before the homicides were discovered just before noon on 11/13/22. Did XK not fully close the front door? We'll probably never know.

Xana caught him killing Maddie and Kaylee and was positioned along his path of escape. You can argue Kaylee was no threat to him either but he still killed her. Again, because he perceived them as a threat of getting caught. Dylan didn't react which allowed him to compose himself and leave. I'm sure if she screamed and tried to run away, he'd have been startled and did the same thing he did to Kaylee and Xana. The fact that she stood still in shock is what saved her life. We as humans are not much different than animals psychologically speaking. You see this all the time in the wilds between animals. Hell, even with humans who found themselves in situation like this with wild animals, whether it'd be bears, tigers or whatever, it's always advertised to stay calm and collected and not freak out as not to elicit response from predators. Kohberger at that point was no different. He was running on pure adrenaline and desposing of any threat he perceived to his own safety. It was an instictual attack, not something he was thinknig about. I think if Xana reacted more like Dylan, it's highly unlikely he would have chased her and he would have just left.

That's not in the documents

I thought he probably thought Dylan had called 911 and that's why he left her alone. Also may explain why he drove the car like a bat out of hell once outside.

The Patterson book* makes it pretty clear that it was not a mere difference of opinion with an egotistical professor or slightly off-kilter grading standards that got him booted out of WSU—BK simply could not adhere to the basic professional norms of higher education, having rude and explosive disagreements with his professors/the chair of his program, and just totally ignoring the lifelines the program tried to throw him (first it was a meeting with the guy he was TAing for, who suggested he stop being openly contemptuous towards his female undergrad students and grading them as though they were grad students; he insisted on having a discussion with the students to “explain” his grading standards [IMO the purpose of this “meeting” was merely for BK to dare them to lodge their complaints to his face/intimidate the students who complained into silence]. After that “meeting” went predictably poorly,BK simply stopped showing up to TA, and on Nov. 3 he was sent a Performance Improvement Plan which he apparently did not even acknowledge).
All this to say that I would be hard-pressed to imagine any of his graduate school professors believing he might fare better in some other Ph.D. program elsewhere—HE himself was the problem, not the graduate program he was in nor the undergrad students he couldn’t even deign to treat with basic respect.
*See chapters 37 and 41.

What is going on with his knuckles that are visible? Perhaps overexposure but they appear overly white. This photograph is chilling. All that we've seen and this is when he expresses emotion, joy?
Yepper. He was quite pleased with himself a few hours later. Not so much now though. ;)
