Second police officer killed in deadly ambush to be farewelled today

The second police officer killed in a fatal ambush at Porepunkah in Victoria will be farewelled today as the hunt for his alleged killer continues.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, (pictured below) was killed in the line of duty on August 26 while executing a search warrant at the home of Dezi Freeman.
He was one among ten police officers convened to carry out the search including Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart, 35, who was also killed at the scene.
Senior Constable De Waart-Hottart was farewelled at the Victoria Police Academy Chapel in Glen Waverley, in Melbourne's east on Friday.
On Monday, Detective Thompson will be laid to rest at the same chapel - on the campus where his career began nearly 40 years ago.
He was due to retire from Victoria Police on Friday last week.
Detective Thompson will receive full police honours at the funeral service on Monday morning, which will be followed by a private cremation.
Mourners have been directed to donate to Police Legacy instead of buying flowers.
10h ·Ineeta cafe, myself and all my past and current staff are absolutely devastated by the loss of our long time customer and friend Neal (thommo) Thompson. He's been a regular to the cafe for the past 10 years. I would nearly hazard to say he'd be the most visited customer ever. Sometimes coming in everyday (if not mutiple times a day) of the week on his way to and from work. He would sit quietly for hours reading the paper or engaging in conversation with locals that knew him. Jimmy he's beloved wired haired pointer (now passed) would often come with him and we'd know two egg and bacon muffins were needed, one for neal one for jimmy. We would chat about life, hunting, fishing, Nepal, adventures, his car, rock climbing, property, finances, cooktown, his boat, jimmy, mangoes, smoked venison, work stories and lately all the things was going to do in his retirement. Im so sad he wont get to live that life in retirement.¿¿I always felt safe knowing he was around, if something was happe

Priest at Dezi Freeman's church speaks out on the alleged gunman

The priest at the church where Dezi Freeman was a parishioner said the fugitive seemed 'agitated' in the days before he allegedly shot dead two police officers.
Father Tony Shallue told the Daily Mail Freeman and his wife Mali and their two younger children attended Our Lady of the Snows 'every Sunday'.

Father Shallue said he first noticed a change in his 'community and family'-focused parishioner when Pope Francis died on April 21 this year.

I thought that the Priest talking about Dezi Freeman was a wee bit wrong?

In other similar news they today finally caught up an NZ man who has been on the run with his 3 children in the bush (well assumed in the bush) for 4 years. Unfortunately it didn't end well for him when he shot a police officer at close range.

I don't see anything wrong with the priest giving his thoughts on Freeman.

And no, it's not the wrong time or not his place to say anything.
I'm just glad that some people are starting to talk.

Agreed.

Wow, that one's been a long time coming.

Agreed.

Wow, that one's been a long time coming.
It sure has been. A shame one of his children had to witness him shooting a police officer in the head and then being killed. As if those kids haven't been put through enough trauma in the past 4 years.

“Police officer Neal Thompson has been remembered by his girlfriend as the "best husband she never had" in a police funeral in Melbourne's east.”
Girlfriend Lisa Thompson, also a police officer, shared her memories with an audience of hundreds, many of whom travelled from Wodonga, Benalla and Wangaratta.

She said he had taught her how to "love without fear and how to be brave when I am scared".

"And honey, I am so grateful you did because I am scared," she said through tears. “

"I don't want to live life without you."

Woman reveals her interaction with accused cop killer Dezi Freeman at Mount Buffalo years ago

Dezi Freeman, who is still on the run from police, reportedly told the family he was familiar with every tree, stone, waterfall, and pond in the mountain.

“We bumped into a diving photographer, who not only kindly lent my daughter and me his diving mask, but also took us diving to see the fish in the waterfall,” the mother said.

She shared photos of Freeman standing on the rocks, giving a thumbs-up to encourage them, and even joined her daughter in the water in one of the shots.

Freeman later sent the family additional photos he took via email.

Freeman reportedly told the mother he had grown up around the mountain and was familiar with every tree, stone, waterfall, and pond.

He even led them to a “secret pond” that only he knew about.

"Mum reveals strange interaction..."

Did I miss the strange bit?

Maybe he didn't seem so strange then.

That was before he started seeing conspiracies everywhere.

He "never wanted it to end like this"... This makes me think it was all planned by Dezi. Otherwise why would Koah say that? What is the "it" in "it to end" , I wonder?

Perhaps I'm reading in to things a bit too deeply...
I don't think you are reading in too deeply at all. My guess is that "it" means the conflict.

As a side note, a lot of sovereign types propagandize themselves as being in constant conflict with an oppressive government. The sovereign citizen wants to resist the oppressive government peacefully via words, or non compliance. But.... they are willing to fight if forced to.

In short, Freeman seems to be saying that he did not want the perpetual conflict between himself and the government to end in violence.

Rather, he hoped that the government would either change, or at least stay out his way entirely (well, except when sending him his super cool disability checks. That type of government contact absolutely needs to occur monthly- right?).

I thought that the Priest talking about Dezi Freeman was a wee bit wrong?
Why? A refusal to be interviewed could be interpreted by some as attempting to conceal something. So, better to be open.

Major police operation launched near scene of deadly shootout with accused cop killer Dezi Freeman

Story by Paul Shapiro

About a dozen police units rushed down Buckland Valley Rd

Heavily-armed camouflaged police exited their vehicles and are now scouring scrubland on foot with weapons drawn.

The police helicopter is also flying above the property.

Two other police units and an ambulance sped off down Buckland Valley Rd to an unknown destination.

Police now have Buckland Valley Rd and Mt Buffalo Rd closed down as they undertake the first significant operation in days.
