Porepunkah shooting: Two officers dead and another wounded after shooting at High Country property, Victoria, Australia #2

I don’t have any sympathy for Mali. I have a huge amount of sympathy for the kids, but none for Mali.

But what is this thing in your pic? Is it a drone? Looks like a toy plane.

I have no idea, I was hoping someone might be able to identify / guess it.

It kind of looks like a person in army-coloured clothing carrying a fairly large black object. It's so hard to tell.

My empathy for Mali comes from a personal experience, and through bias applying that to the scenario. However, I don't actually know any facts about the dynamics of their relationship.

I think it's a bird. But what happened to the second bright light from last night, it doesn't seem to be there anymore. The third I'm sure was a car's headlights.

And what about Dezi's 15 year old son who was there holding a camera watching the disaster unfold, then to be arrested and then shot at with an arrow or two thru the window and will possibly never see his father again.
But I don't think we should get into arguments about who we do or don't feel sorry for, unless you're like me and feel sorry for everyone. I have discovered through the school of hard knocks that there is no-one like me :)

Oh yes, apologies, I did not mean to argue. I find it interesting - everyone's different viewpoints.

What did you mean about the arrows? I must have missed that!

I think you're right, it's probably just a bird.

Those cameras aren’t going to get much solar charging today! Skies look thunderous!!

I think we can take it for granted that the level of sympathy for people involved in this case will go from feeling sorry for no-one to feeling sorry for everyone. JMO

I can't find it now but someone shot an arrow through the window of the house where Mali and her children were staying and it landed near her's son's bed and she said it wasn't the first time.

The low clouds in the mountains today may be a suitable time for Dezi to change his location - if he's able and if he's still in the area. But we don't know what that transportable camera near the little shed is capable of, so it might be better for him if Dezi doesn't move.

BBM: Where is this coming from ? Do you have a link please?

I hadn’t heard about the arrows either.

No me, the only one I sympathy for is the 2yr old.

If only the family would maybe tell police where Desmond had "broken" away from his family & not the media?

Did the son drive Dezi to another bush location I wonder??

Oh right maybe just a mix up. Happens to the best of us. Pretty wild story though, I had not seen that one
Yes that was the story and it happened to someone else and not Mali's family. I put my mistake down to lack of sleep watching those damn cameras of Margs. So well done @drsleuth for clearing that up and now I think you're capable of solving the mystery of what the camera is used for on the airfield and why so many people spend such a long time at that site each day.

Thanks.

I have no idea what the white thing is at Porepunkah Airport. But not sure if it is a camera.

Maybe it's some type of large battery strorage that they use to power the Telescopic Camera & microwave booster that they have set up on a hill above the Freeman property?? ( anyone been able to find out exactly where this is ?? ) And they go there randomly to either retrieve data or retrieve batteries??

Or they somehow work together gathering data.

I really have no clue.

Sorry, what I noticed was another car had joined the two cars you saw that were parked at the shed next to the camera seen by the airfield's SW view. It's perhaps only me that believes there is a second police camera stationed where the night light is in the NW view.

But that's not the confusing part :)

What I find extremely strange is having possibly two transportable police cameras on the airfield road so close together with so much attention being paid to them by police. I can see no reason for them being there whatsoever.
Maybe to secure that area 24/7 for LE only, like a tactical station for whatever needs done outside of normal airport use.... orienting drones, satellites at night to the area in between. And/or for use as a temporarily marked (by lights at night) landing pad or rally point for ops.

ETA: Also, perhaps to create a scale for them to use as a reference point, e.g., the lights are 100 meters (m) apart, and from 1,000 m above they're viewed as 10 cm apart. If they're doing flyovers in grids at night, they could be using them to orient the grids.

Or maybe some type of equipment for telecommunications for all the operatives out in the middle of the bush??

A portable tower or telescopic mast is one of their most important tools in the field. It helps provide a clear line of communication and a real-time picture of what’s happening in an emergency. The best masts don’t require specialized training and are easy enough for one person to deploy in minutes.

An antenna tower is a structure full of radio or RF antennas. It’s used to transmit and receive voice and data signals for P25, DMR, LTE, wireless broadband & more. It can also have other devices such as cameras attached to it so they can be shot up into the sky to get a better field of view.

Law Enforcement

Law enforcement can use a portable telescoping mast for a broad range of security purposes, including crowd control, special event and tactical surveillance and to improve two-way radio or cellular coverage. The mere presence of a portable tower in an area can also deter criminal activity.

Emergency Management

Emergency management agencies can use a portable tower during natural disasters to gain situational awareness on scene or back in the EOC, to safely zoom in from a distance on a hazmat incident or to stand up mission-critical voice & data communications in minutes.

A portable tower helps all first responders by providing rapid aerial platform to support their various missions.

Well if I made a guess:

I'd say it is along this ridgeline (marked in blue) - pink=airport, green=Dezi's bus location:

Why?

1. Young plantation trees in the video.
2. Angle of view of Mt Buffalo
3. Some other things (I'm tired rn)
4. The view snipped below of the house on the property that Dezi lived on (noting angle of the face of the house / that one line of trees):

Also apologies to Marg, I could not get the neat circles to work!

I wish we could see the one at the airport clearer!

Mali is an interesting one. Is she protecting her husband just because she loves him or also because she too believes in the sov cit ideology like him?
