All I can remember reading is that Dezi's nephew said in one article that he disappeared to the Philippines in the early 2000's and came back with Mali. Also just found this article, which is very interesting with a good amount of detail on other things as well, I must have missed it early on - but I digress, the part relevant to the question, it has Dezi's statements from court documents when he had lost his license, in one part he says that he paid for Mali to come to Australia from the Philippines while he was a qualified photographer 20 years ago.

Surprised Dezi actually went on a plane. Airports are quite strict in terms of rules and I would have thought someone as anti authority as Dezi would have bristled at that.

Well, they've all packed up and left the airport for the day.
I've got a good mind to ring their boss and say they only did half a day's work and they'll never catch Dezi unless they put a lot more effort in.
And if I'm asked if I reckon I could do a better job trying to find Dez, I would tell them yes I reckon I could.

These photos of Freeman look like fakes to me. The snake one has been AI enhanced - his hand holding the snake is warped. The other photos are fakes, placing Freeman in the wilderness, superimposed image on a background. I imagine someone designed them and sold them to the media…. IMO.
