Dezi Freeman’s brother believes the fugitive died days ago on a mountain near his property in Victoria’s high country.

“I hope he has peace now. I imagine his last hours ... were cold, lonely, fearful,” James Filby said.

He added: “What Dez did was wrong, but he’s my brother and I miss him.”

Filby’s message was made public by pro-Russia activist Simeon Boikov, an anti-authority, anti-government YouTuber.

Filby said Freeman would want to be buried on Mount Buffalo, close to his home, and never found by police.

“But we need closure,” he said.

I just don’t know how you can ever say a place like that can be considered thoroughly searched. Such diverse landscape, harsh terrain, huge area.
Agreed Susjay.

Also there is no way of knowing if Dezi remained in the Mt Buffalo area, or headed off elsewhere.

I’ve no doubt he’s a skilled ‘survivor’. His love of the outdoors & the wilderness has been well reported. I would expect he’s done lots of ‘rough camping’, and I think it’s quite possible that he’s supplemented the family food (and budget ) with his wild caught supplies over the years.

That’s why a part of me is not convinced that he’s deceased. … on the other side is the thought that he would never allow himself to be captured alive to face the force of the laws that he professes not to believe in. ( I’m aware that some people adopt beliefs that are ‘very different’ / outside the norm - often I think it gives them some sort of ‘status’, something that they are an expert in, something that people will often refrain from the ‘argument’ about)

But, having said all that, I would doubt that Dezi would give up without a fight. .. Chief Crazy Horse comes to mind 🛖

All just my personal thoughts. I’m probably way off, as usual

Take a book and some snacks and sit on the hill 😀
And take wine I would suggest, blankets, fluffy pillows and take that huge dog “Fluffy” who belonged to Hagrid from the first Harry Potter book.

Could the family only be saying they believe Desi is dead to stop the search. Then he could resurface and be helped again by family
MOO

Yes, I thought the same. I suppose the investigators will have asked what it is that makes them believe he's no longer alive. Is it a 'hunch' or was there some sort of signal? I don't think the police won't stop until they're satisfied themselves.

Hard to say but the family (both Dezi's brother and nephew) have both publicly distanced themselves from him from the start and basically said what a horrible person he is / crazy nutcase / he ruined every Christmas / mentions of multiple breakdowns between the family and Dezi so I don't think they'd be on his side even though they have expressed sadness about his possible death.

Though I respect your opinion, there is a quiet voice telling me that Desi loves to hype Desi and that his survival skills are very similar to legions of hobbyist hunters and hikers.

The fact that Desi's "remote secret spot" appears to be a short mountain bike trail ride from a dirt road only makes the quiet voice louder. Granted, Desi appears to be in good physical condition for his age, Casual hunting, hiking and fishing are great past times.

But... when there is nothing to shoot- or one cant shoot for fear of discovery, and the fish are not biting, one gets very hungry, very fast. Even in semi wet terrain, the act of obtaining water, carrying it and storing it can be harder than it appears.

Improvised fish, crawfish, turtle and crab traps plus baited lines can net in calories- well, at least some of the time- if one can risk being spotted. Good outdoor searchers will know where to look for traps. Edible things can get trapped out fast- or there might just not be a lot to catch to start with. Things then start to go "Hungarian" get it, get it. LOL

Going into history......

Indigenous hunter gatherers from every continent and every time had a general preference for living in groups of 20-30 people. This allowed for division of labor and division of expertise when hunting and gathering. Less than 20 had less division of labor. More than 50 had too many mouths. A favorite slow death sentence used by indigenous was banishment. Survival then got very, very hard when needing to do it solo.

Even with a group, hunter gatherers the world over would quickly attest that finding enough food day after day can be tough. And that is when the hunting and gathering is being done by real career pros with out the need to hide from searchers.

I like the TV series called Alone. They are highly skilled survivalists who are much more capable IMO than in Dezi's wildest dreams. On Alone you can take 10 practical things to help you stay in the bush. Dezi took guns that he can't use.
Dezi has to stay put because cameras (one camera may have been broken but anyway) and people are looking for him 24 hours a day. He can't move, while the people on Alone can roam around freely, in a limited area I admit.
Some people on Alone have given up and gone home within hours or days of arriving. Many go home because they miss their family.
Dezi IMO is stuffed. He probably doesn't want to die, but if he's alive, faces the cops and doesn't surrender I think he will be killed.
But he is a genuine nature lover and I would like to think because I am a compassionate person that, even though he did an horrific thing, he was at peace in the bush and his body wastage, which everyone on Alone suffers from after a week or two, led to organs failing and his passing. I hope he asked for forgiveness from god and that's my opinion and many people will not agree with it but that's how I see it. RIP Dezi

Whilst I generally agree. I don’t wish for him to rest in peace. What he did was horrific. His victims and those he left behind traumatised will likely never be at peace. IMO

Victoria Police search private properties in ongoing Dezi Freeman hunt

“Victoria Police have revealed their next moves in their ongoing hunt for alleged cop-killer and sovereign citizen Dezi Freeman, as the search enters its eighth week.

Police officers have trawled through a number of private properties over the past two days in the ongoing manhunt for alleged cop-killer Dezi Freeman.

“Over the past two days, police have searched a number of private properties in Porepunkah as part of the ongoing search for Desmond Freeman,” Victoria Police said in a fresh update from Friday.

“The search involves a number of specialist services and follows intensive searches conducted by tactical police in the area over the past seven weeks.”

The police also said an additional 33 officers from the Public Order Response Team had been brought in on Friday to conduct another sweep of the area.

“Further updates will be provided when operationally appropriate to do so,” the statement read.”
