Porepunkah shooting: Two officers dead and another wounded after shooting at High Country property, Victoria, Australia #2

When did Mali and the kids turn back & call the older son for help - after initially running out with Dezi

WIFE FLED THE SHOOTING SCENE, CHILD IN ARMS

JOHN FERGUSON - MOHAMMAD ALFARES

“The wife of Dezi Freeman, Australia’s most wanted man, was captured on security footage in a secret family rendezvous soon after her husband’s deadly shootout on a bush road about 1km from the scene, according to a potential witness

Neighbour Naomi Wilson said family security footage had shown Mali Freeman, 42, and at least two of their three children meeting near the shootout scene by the Buckland River near Porepunkah in northeast Victoria.

She said the footage, taken about half an hour after the August 26 tragedy, had been handed to police and potentially provided a large piece of the puzzle about how Ms Freeman evaded the eight surviving officers while carrying a young child.

Ms Wilson said Ms Freeman was picked up by a car, before being rushed from the area near where two police lay dead and another was seriously injured.”

Interesting timing. Maybe he fired a warning shot for them not to continue with him.. .. who knows.

It seems that Dezi may have been given a heads up by someone close that saw the police on their way to his place for wife and kids to leave ahead or someone in the police department gave him a heads up. Could he have had cameras up to alert him of cars/ppl approaching.

Jmo

Was it said who was driving car that picked them up.

Not sure what you mean? Mali was there during the shooting.

Princess Anne has attended a ceremony at the Victoria Police Memorial in Melbourne as part of her official visit to Australia.

She laid a wreath in honour of the two officers allegedly shot dead by Dezi Freeman in Porepunkah, in Victoria's north-east.

Helicopter is circling around Pullar and McCluskey Roads.

Could very well be old mate Dezi... I guess we will find out soon enough.

For anyone curious, the model of the helicopter is a Leonardo AW139.

Marked as N/A so could be police or military. Photo of the same model, from VicPol Air Wing section of Wikipedia:

For reference, Cobram is about 160km north west of Porepunkah.

I'm only about 6km away but I can't see the helicopter. I don't think it would appreciated if I drove over for a closer look!

Hard to know. My immediate reaction would be, would they send a helicopter from Melbourne for that?

Maybe? If nothing else was going on? Seems like a big over-reaction all round if it was for him IMO.

You were correct on Tuesday with the above. The following is taken from a Herald Sun article from yesterday:

He led police through the Riverina region of NSW, including the towns of Berrigan, Finley and Jerilderie, before crossing the border at Barooga and entering the Victorian town of Cobram, where police deployed stop sticks, bringing the car to a halt.

The alleged offender then fled on foot and was found a short time later hiding in grassland.

Victoria Police said they had charged the man with 38 offences.

Paraphrased:

Police still don't know whether Dezi is alive or dead.

Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush says several hundred police are still in the area searching for Dezi.

Dezi has not used his phone, no confirmed sightings, no evidence linking him to campsites. Searches of hundreds of structures and homes have no resulting evidence of being used as a hide-out.

Search warrants on sympathisers and associates have had no results.

There are signs that police believe it is highly likely that Dezi's dead body is in the area of Porepunkah.
