Pets left alone as residents unable to get home

Mikaela Ortolan profile image

By Mikaela Ortolan

People in the Porepunkah area who’ve been unable to return home since Tuesday are getting really worried about their pets that have been left alone.

In a social media post, Porepunkah veterinary clinic Alpine Animal Doctors says people are concerned about how long their pets can survive without them.

“We have received calls from people whose pets are stuck alone at the epicentre of the current situation," Alpine Animal Doctors says.

“We completely understand how stressful and distressing this must feel.

“At this time, it remains an active situation, and the police already have a great deal to manage."
The clinic has asked the community to allow authorities to do their jobs safely and are reassuring them that their pets should be alright for the time being.

"Please be reassured — as long as pets have access to water, they will be OK for the moment," the clinic says.

And I'm not saying he's old but he is just a few years away from being 60.

So I just wonder how fit he actually is and how long he can keep going out in the elements, even with shelter.
Given his stance against authority I cant see him wanting to go to prison so Im wondering if he will take himself out

The alternative is not atractive....my theory is, he wants the police to take him out so he can be St Dez, Porepunkah's Mary McKillop, beautified and boosted from one man cave to the other , up and down the Great Alpine Road, over the hills and far away....

Poor pets alone at home.

A food drop wouldn't work if the pets were looked up inside.

And then there's livestock which may be in a similar situation, locked in sheds or stalls.

He may already have taken himself out.

Agree. To crusade against lockdowns and then bring terror like this to his own community, just reveals the inherent selfishness of these people.

They are so confused. Hate the law but end up in court and threatening to sue more than most. Similarly, end up in the company of police more than a regular person who has nothing against authority. Decry freedom but they can’t leave others alone and cause nuisance. The worst of them are scared of 5G towers but have all the time in the world to spend online with their fraternity of rock spiders.

Every single one I’ve ever met has access to money they didn’t earn and too much time on their hands. I think their paranoia and neurosis are channelled into beliefs that protect them from suffering guilt or shame. You can’t be bad for breaking the law if you refuse to accept the law, right? They all have something to cover up, whether it’s a moral deficit or genuine criminal behaviour, and it drives them madder and madder when alienation and aggression fail to keep reality at bay.

Deeply fragmented personalities who can’t survive the truth of themselves and the world, and so they wage war on whoever threatens the constructs of their delusions. Which isn’t hard to do, nothing they believe is truly sensible or fair, mainly selfish.
I'm with you, if they don't want to register their cars and pay insurance, they can drive around their own paddocks, build their own roads, on their own land and do all the maintenance.. keep off taxpayer roads , for sure..

Its very significant that they often become Sov Cits once they lose their licence to drive.. It triggers some neanderthal button , and it's off to the races with them , down one rabbit hole after the other.

Tara and Wieambilla residents reach out to Porepunkah after 'two very similar' police shootings

“The small town of Tara, and the even smaller community of Wieambilla on its outskirts, 300 kilometres west of Brisbane in Queensland's Western Downs, became the focus of national media in December 2022, when three shooters killed two police officers and their neighbouron a rural property.

So, when the local publican and Western Downs regional councillor heard the breaking news of a police shooting in the small town of Porepunkah in Victoria this week, it all came flooding back.

At Wains Road in Wieambilla, there are still visible reminders of what happened in 2022.

Kerry Dare's husband, Alan, was killed when he and a friend went to investigate a fire after hearing gunshots.

"If you give 'Kerry Dare's advice' to these people in Victoria, it's to be a community," she said.

"Gather around and support the community that is shocked by this … talk to each other … little old ladies, and people with heart conditions, and people living alone, they'll be scared.”

They don't want to pay taxes, or for drivers licences etc, but they're happy to put their hand out for a pension.

Selfish is the right word. Only thinking of themselves.

I worry this could happen…..

“Porepunkah locals believe alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman would see suicide in the remote bush as “sweet revenge”, forcing police to waste resources searching for his body.”

“One Porepunkah resident told NewsWire on Thursday morning that he suspected the alleged gunman would see this as “sweet revenge”.

“If he’s (dead) in some hidey-hole, they won’t find him for months. That would his ultimate, sweet revenge,” he said.”

Police helicopter arrives at Porepunkah

By Mikaela Ortolan

We've been wondering whether or not it would be safe for the police chopper to be deployed today given the windy conditions around Porepunkah.

We can tell you the helicopter has arrived and is ready to help with today's search.

ABC reporter Kimberley Price has just sent through these images from Feathertop Winery where police have set up a staging area.

They should get Dan Andrews on repeat on a LRAD ( Long Range Acoustic Device )
I remember years ago, some Australian shopping centre played Barry Manilow non stop to keep some trouble maker teens away.

It was said to have worked :)

I'm not a Barry Manilow disliker by the way.

Anyway actually noise can be torture.

Who does this creep hate the most. Make a recording and torment him with it.

I can't put my finger on why he looks so darn familiar to me.

I spent a while living in Gippsland, but that's not the same area.

In one of the photos of him, he reminded me of one of the photos of Greg Lynn.

I think it was more the expression on their face, like not relaxed but almost a battle ready look.

Drsleuth was onto it. I suspect a few re-runs of Dan Andrews' COVID press conferences should have an effect of some sort 😅

Police cars seen leaving staging area

A short time ago a number of unmarked police cars left the staging area at Feathertop Winery.

"We saw a large contingent of Special Operations officers meet up, gather together, where they appeared to be receiving a briefing before a large convoy of police vehicles rolled out," ABC reporter Leanne Wong says.

The cars were seen travelling towards Mount Buffalo National Park.

The national park is closed to the public and there are several road blocks that remain in place.

Wong says it appears the police helicopter is preparing to head out soon.

"Conditions in the last hour have eased, which is good news for police," Wong says.

"The rain has stopped ... the fog and cloud cover ... has lifted, which means visibility is a lot better."

Porepunkah shooting live:

Sniffer dog and helicopters involved in search for suspect; armed officers seen entering shed near township

“A group of armed officers have just entered a shed in a property outside Porepunkah.

The officers were seen leaving in convoy from the command centre before arriving at the property where they entered in single file, dressed in black and carrying guns.

They also searched a caravan on the property.

A group of plainclothes officers followed, who have just entered the shed.

More to come.”
