“He never worked, never had any money … that’s what used to s*** me too because he was so against the government, but then got his Centrelink cheque every week,” the woman from Myrtleford said.
Freeman, who remains on the run for an eighth day in Victoria’s alpine northeast, had previously referred to himself as a “disability pensioner” when mounting a legal fight over driving offences.
A family member told the Herald Sun say he has been on the pension for more than 20 years, though they questioned what entitled him to it, recalling only that he complained of a sore tooth.
“It wasn’t about working for money. It was about trying to get it from the Government,” they said.
“He always told everyone how poor he was and that he was the victim. He always wanted people to empathise … the hypocrisy. The whole family kind of laughed at him.”

I can well believe that he left school at 13 ( by wagging, since it is compulsory until 15) he has no critical thinking skills at all.He is what I would call a dole bludger. Someone posted a link to his YouTube channel further back in the threads.
There is a video (taken by him) of him canoeing down a river in recent years, and commenting how they will go back and canoe again when the waters are higher and faster.
It is doubtful, to me, that anyone with a back that is bad enough not to work at a paid job could happily canoe down a river, and want to do it again when the conditions are harsher.

The Australian Defence Force has joined the hunt for Dezi Freeman, as the search for the accused cop killer enters its ninth day in Victoria.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles said a military planning specialist, as well as aerial surveillance assets, had joined forces with police.
"The Australian Defence Force will work with the Victorian police, as they request our assistance in terms of the particular assets and capabilities that we have, to bring Dezi Freeman to justice," he told ABC.

There’s a lot of buildings, dirt tracks, dense bush and space to hide on that property. The driveway is also long.
If Freeman was aware of the cops arrival at his gate, choosing to wait in the bus with a wife, a teenager and a toddler is interesting.
Why would he not just preemptively vanish into the bush alone before the police arrived at his door? Or hide away from the bus and family?
It looks like there’s a number of dirt tracks into the bush in all directions. Did the family actually leave in a vehicle through the back of the property, drop Dez off somewhere and continue on to a friends place?
There were 10 officer’s present. Two killed, one injured and 7 took cover or were waiting further back near the property entrance.
Seems the entire family left the property at the time of the shooting. Police were at the front entrance, so how did Mali and the two kids get off the property? Did they leave and then return, or leave and head straight to a friends place and haven't returned? Either way they relocated very quickly.
One report mentions Freemen left by car (may stem from early confusion) and another says he was seen escaping into the bush on foot.

Likely then to still be in the bush, and not holed up in a home. The proximity to his property is interesting as VicPol seems to be visiting the property a lot. The no fly zone to monitor visibility and perhaps also for any escape attempts by air. Considering every possible route - land, bush, and sky. Maybe he hasn’t gone too far and might be accessing help close to home.

Police to provide an update on the manhunt

Cops converge on rural property
Police are focusing on the Buckland River area, just outside Porepunkah, as their desperate search for Dezi Freeman enters its ninth day.Several tactical police and sniffer dogs attended an address on Buckland River Road, at about 9.30am on Wednesday.
Officers were seen chatting to a family, including a woman with a baby.
It is understood police advised the family they would be converging on their property.
It is not suggested the family is involved with Freeman.
At one point, an officer was seen crouched by a tree with his weapon drawn.
Police also inspected a shed on the property.
It is understood police are currently going door-to-door in the area.
The police helicopter also returned to the skies to scour the scene ftrom above.
This morning's events come after police focused on a different area of the Buckland River yesterday.
