Tricia-
O/T I know but what have you got on that dog?

Then there is still a very small chance she is still alive. IMO
It must be incredibly hard for the families to be on that yo-yo. Other cases we have worked, families have often said the searches were the most difficult thing to endure besides them finding remains to be identified and taking a couple of days then to find out it wasn't their missing loved one. :( Sometimes it is difficult to know what to pray for in these cases, isn't it?

Conflicting articles. Which to believe?

This one (posted YESTERDAY) said the search is done and nothing is found:
Pond Search Complete In Search For Haleigh
Investigators Say Nothing Found Related To Missing Child's Case
POSTED: Saturday, September 19, 2009

PALATKA, Fla. -- Investigators say they finished draining and searching a Putnam County pond Saturday. Maj. Gary Bowling with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office tells Channel 4 that crews found no evidence in relation to the search for six-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

And this one, posted TODAY saying they plan to continue lowering the lake level on Sunday (today):

Divers Search Lake In Haleigh Cummings Case
Posted: 11:14 pm EDT September 18,
2009 Updated: 8:51 am EDT September 20, 2009

According to Putnam County officials, the search was prompted by over
4,000 tips they have received in the case. A spokesperson for the
Sheriff’s office confirmed they have received information that there
may be evidence located in the lake south of Palatka, but will not say
what the evidence might be or if anything has been recovered.

They plan to continue to lower the lake level Sunday

Wish we could get a straight story.

Talk downstairs that perhaps the article is from yesterday and that it is very confusing because locals say the pond was still being drained. Do we know if they are draining numerous ponds.

I am thinking of that movie I saw with Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson about the streets being empty and the bomb threat a diversion for what was "really" happening. Not saying thats the case here but......we have all been pretty darn focused on what was going on at the pond. Perhaps something else was happening elsewhere?

This whole thing about the pond is driving me cuckoo. (I wasn't already, you know )

Because I own and have experience with landscaping ponds, I must say that an announcement like this so soon after the pumping is premature. The only thing that could legitimize this statement is if they have used some sonar equipment or the like. The amount of crap in my own pond (after not cleaning in for 5 years) is enormous! You have leaves, dust, dirt, rocks, and fish poop in there like you can't believe. And in this pond, sounds like there is alligator poop as well!

If LE wants me to believe they are finished, they need to give me more details.

now what do we do.....lol. I am so confused.
We drink coffee and go back to waiting for more news. We can anxiously await the arrival of TES soon.

There's some good photos available on the net of a local person who took some interesting pics of the surrounding areas around the search site. Do we have to have their permission to post them here if their not journalists, news media etc?

Kimster, I was thinking the same thing. They couldn't have finished even draining the lake yet, so how can they know definately. Plus, this Sheriff Hardy, he totally will and has contradicted himself. I'll hold my thoughts til further reporting, I don't rely any longer on his statements and neither should ws.

We have confirmation their coming? Yippee, I trust TM explicitly concerning searches, he takes every precaution regardless of pressure, he doesn't succomb, he's about the victim and preservation.

OT....my kids would like me to go back to making brownies and folding their laundry...between me being stuck to this computer chair and their dad being glued to farmtown it's obvious not much will get done today...lol

BTW, that's not to say that I don't hope they DO have sonar capabilities that verifies there isn't evidence in that pond. My truest hope is that this precious little girl is still alive!

  • #571
Seems to me we should just interpret as meaning that they haven't found anything they have confirmed to be evidence in the case yet.

Especially considering their demonstrated reluctance to say anything that encourages jumping to conclusions...

Ewwwww. And people were letting their kids swim in that pond?

There were beer bottles, probably old tires, snakes (wonder where they went?), a car, and years of trash most likely. I wonder if they found a gator or two?!

I will come to your house and give you updates while you make brownies and do my laundry. LOL

Sorry I'm kind of late..when is TES coming? Was something found in the pond?

Not sure on either one of those things, Kaylynn~

Tim said they would come back in a few weeks when the foliage began to die back a bit. It is nearing that time so I am hoping it still happens.

It is not clear if they actually finished the search of the pond and area, but so far saying nothing was found. Again...conflicting reports.

There are reports of evidence being found from a few days ago. We are getting yes/no on everything.

Yup. Of course, in that movie, the diversion was staged by the bad guys, but LE does use the same tactic at times.

I'm reminded more of shows like 24, where CTU/LE are staging a decoy or misleading the public as a strategy, and some reporter outs them, screwing up the whole plan, because they say people have the right to know.

Since I'm not privy to all LE knows, I'd rather stay out of their way and let them do whatever they need to solving the case, even if it doesn't make sense to me at the time. Bad guys can see and read the news too.

If, when all is said and done, it's shown that they screwed up the investigation, then I'll feel knowledgeable enough to criticize them.

I don't get to watch those shows...I forget what the remote control feels like in my hand...lol. I see what you are saying though for sure.

SS...I would be happy to do those things for you, your white t-shirts might turn pink...but I have convinced my kids that they can make a fashion statement with those...

I know..
evidence found - no evidence found
the search wasn't related to Haleigh - the search was related to Haleigh
they are through pumping out the pond - locals say they are still pumping

and is G. Page in jail or not in jail? ;)

  • #580
an update of sorts perhaps.....a local has driven to the pond site and could not get that close but has confirmed the pumps are still there and the article earlier about the search of pond being complete with nothing found in relation to Haleigh's case doesn't hold much water....still many cars, still much ado going on at the site so who knows.....just wanted to post that up here for anyone that can't or doesn't venture into the basement.
