I can't believe the State of Arizona has such a horrible system of retrying the punishment phase of a trial. And, that such a pathetic judge is allowed to preside over it! I have watched a lot of trials.....never, ever have I seen a judge allow the victim to be trashed as Sherry has allowed Travis to be. Dragged through the slime oozing from KN and JW.....to the delight of the killer.

Shame on Arizona....and God Bless the Alexander family and Travis' other loved ones. You should be given an apology for what has been allowed to happen there.

I haven't been able to catch up yet because I just got off work but these affidavits are clearly lies. How can defense attorneys legally submit these knowing damn well they're lies?

AZLawyer? Sorry if this has already been answered.

I mean, defense attorneys can't ethically (a word I wouldn't equate with Wilmot or Nurmi) or legally put someone on the stand if they know them to be lying, so how is this different? It's obviously unethical, but how is it legal?

This is a really good point. Total contradiction right there. All Juan has to do for this part is to show her testimony from last trial.

It does make you wonder how the DT could even allow the testimony from the affidative if there is this kind of total contradiction on the record. Are they that incompetant that they would not remember OR maybe they know something we dont know and they know Juan is going to be prevented from being able to counteract this.

I am really concerned that Juan may have his hands tied on this somehow.
Like maybe the judge will only let him cross Geff on the affidatives.

They don't KNOW these people are lying. And if they don't KNOW for sure they are ethically required to present the testimony. The jury is free to believe these nuts over,e.g. Deanna.

Hello AZ. But the DT should have remembered Deanna's testimony from the first trial that totally contradicts their own witness. Why would they let him claim something they know a very credible witness has already testified the opposite of?

Well the client is in charge of the "facts" and they are in control of the law. So if Jodi insists that Deanna is the one who is lying, they'd have to accept that.

OK. I suppose its a risk the DT is willing to take. They may also be gambling on perhaps Juan not being able to call Deanna.

One fear I have is the judge telling Juan that he can only cross Geff for anything about the affidativs. That would sure put a damper on things if that happens. I hope JSS allows more than that although you never know.

We have seen JA come to court with a brace on her hand every now and then. Sometimes we joked that she had it out with her cell's wall.
As this trial has wore on I honestly think maybe she does do that. There was 1 day a decision did not go her way and she came in next day with the brace. Now it seems like this MM may have witnessed an example of her losing her temper.

I think she exhibits Jekyl + Hyde behaviors. She can turn on that sweet soft voice she uses like when she sung for the Prison contest. Yet she can also turn into a monster and become vicious IMO. As indicated and allegedly witnessed by MM.

We may have a real Sybil but with a twist with this one. A split personality turned on or off on demand. JA has always scared me once we learned what she is capable of. It is partly due to not being able to easily spot that she is a monster. She hides it well. She could have tricked any number of guys. She has tricked her minions in the same sort of way. They think that surely there must have been some other reason she viciously murdered him.

Breaking news for her minions. NO There was no good reason. She just went into a jealous rage that lasted 2 weeks until she finally drove all the way there to put him out of HER misery. A Jekly + Hyde in all its forms she is.

BBM
- I don't think this article describes it quite that way but instead “callous-unemotional”, but turned on or off, JA knew that plotting to murder someone/anyone(let alone someone you proclaim/ed to love for all eternity...) was/is wrong and is worthy of the DP.

I do not see how TA has been "trashed". Other posters have said he was a highly sexual 30 year old man and so what if he looked at 🤬🤬🤬🤬. We heard the sex tapes and read his flirtatious communications with women he met via the internet. I would not blame the whole state of Arizona on anything. Give the jury some credit.

Alternate Reality

If this occurred in November, she may have been home for Thanksgiving?

==========================================================================================

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think that missionaries typicallly return home for holidays. My friends were always gone the entire duration of their mission. No returning home unless some kind of emergency.

Deana (?) said she could only write home during her mission and that they could call home twice a year, Mothers Day and Christmas. IIRC No going home for holidays like students.

Ethically aren't they beholden to at least confirm to some certainty the truth of the statements put forth?

ie. confirm that this bishop not only saw both TA and MM the day in question and for the matters MM has purported, but also confirm with DR that MM and his wife administered first aid to her in her hour of need... or hey, I have a great idea, why not check with the authorities, surely this MM and his wife reported this abusive behaviour, let alone tried to have someone(gee maybe it's a huge ring with the church officials too...) apprehended that they believed was such a threat to children, sheesh.

Is this real life?

Yet another sickening display from Arias and her defense team. Yet another new low. Wasn't one of Travis' affirmations something like "Go to bed each night knowing you did something to make yourself better, someone else better, your community better, and the world better?" Gold stars to the defense team for their dedication and creativity in DOING THE EXACT OPPOSITE of this for sooooo long now. No matter how low they go, they can always go lower. Their mamas must be so proud. Actually, at this point I bet their mamas wish they had let their babies grow up to be cowboys, rather than "doctors and lawyers and such."

Willmott and Nurmi can go to bed tonight knowing they've stirred up the bee hive, taunted the pitbull, and throwm chum in the water. They're going to need a much bigger boat. And everyone associated with the defense should anticipate a lot of pants-soiling moments from here on out and pack accordingly. Adult diapers and spare clothes.

I agree. Did everyone see that great picture of Juan, taken this afternoon when he was battling over the affidavits? He looked so intense, so focused, so DETERMINED, so outraged by the constant, pervasive pile of dung that these <modsnip> keep trying to pile on the Alexander family. They cannot keep him sidelined forever. At some point, VERY SOON, he is coming for them. And he will be organized, eloquent, aggressive and well armed. I cannot wait.

Deanna testified that she met him in 1998. They began dating in 2000, just a couple of months before she left for Costa Rica in June 2000. While in Costa Rica her only communication was through letters. In June 2001 Travis wrote that he wanted to date other people so they broke up. She returned from Costa Rica in November 2001 to Riverside CA. She and Travis talked and got back together in early 2002 and were exclusive. In April 2004 the company she worked for moved to Phoenix. Travis moved too, to Mesa. They kept dating until the end of 2005 when Deanna told Travis they had dated long enough. She wanted marriage, he didn't. They both cried and agreed to remain friends.
She says their relationship was fun. They enjoyed being together.
Travis never raised his voice to her. He never screamed at her. He never cursed at her. He never grabbed her. He never threw her down. He never advanced on her physically. He never called her names. Juan asked her all of this multiple times. She said Travis would never treat her that way.

Deanna starts at 55 min

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3KSpVrL4H7Q

Now I have to watch cross :(

This is just so clear and with a timeline. They were not even back together yet when Deanna returned from Costa Rica in November of 2001. There would have been no reason for Travis to have made that kind of "scene" described by Affidavit #1 (who we know is the guy Marc from New Zealand) in November of 2001. If you are going to fabricate something get your facts in order. We have come to know Travis in depth and that of his relationship with Deanna. There is just no way that he would have treated Deanna in this manner anywhere let alone a Bishop's home or used that kind of foul language to Deanna. They remained friends until his untimely death. That speaks volumes for me. One does wonder just how will Juan address this particular part from Affidavit #1. I do not know if he can play some of Deanna's testimony from the first trial or since this is "new" related to this Affidavit #1 testimony, will Juan actually call her during this phase.

Unfortunately this jury does not even know what Deanna looks like (and she may very well have attended some of this penalty phase) and never heard from her, which seems a bit unfair since she testified in the first trial. It would seem that it would be necessary that this jury hear from Deanna since her name has been brought before this jury many times.

Thank you for your well written post. (JMO)

Agree to disagree about Travis being trashed....could just be me, but insinuating, accusing him of being a pedophile is trashing IMO. Not sure what to give the jury credit for....this jury? I guess credit for showing up....ok

With all due respect I find that incredibly disingenuous. Seriously? IMO, that makes the justice system in the toilet. Bad faith just reeks from the DT.

HA! Thanks for tracking down all these links! I adore Queen (first concert I ever went to!), but when I wrote "Is this real life," I was actually referring to this YouTube clip from a few years back:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs

Throughout this trial, I've been thinking of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Really. Mostly the "No! No! No! No! No! No! No!" part. And how Freddy Mercury puts more emotion into his confession in the song than Jodi does when she's confessing to an actual murder! Wait no, self defense, I forgot.

I'm going to go watch Queen at Live Aid for the millionth time and soothe my nerves.
