I could come closer to believing this if she hadn't slit his throat from ear to ear, nearly beheading him, which clearly was totally unnecessary, took an immense amount of energy and strength, and could possibly even be perceived as ritualistic. Totally evil. That in itself was over the top, negating the theory that she wanted it done quickly and cleanly. I don't want to argue about it though so I'll let it rest at that, and it is JMO.

Most criminals would shudder at the thought of having to nearly decapitate a human being. It's difficult, gory and beyond the capability of most humans. Arias could have shot Travis while he slept. No mess and no danger. Why did she want him in the shower? She wanted to terrorize him, taunt him and then murder him. She absolutely wanted Travis to feel mental and physical pain. I don't care if the whole thing lasted one, two or three minutes. Travis was stabbed all over his body and then his throat was cut from ear to ear--to the point of decapitation. That must have agonizing and unbearable. Even ISIS beheadings are not as painful. She tortured Travis to death and does not regret it.

I wish the animal abuse evidence had come in. She was violent long before she got involved with Travis and PPL. She might not be the very worst person in the world but she is right up there as one of the worst. She richly deserves the death penalty.

I have been wondering about the birth control thing too. And also about "safe sex." Now that I have made this even more OT, I was wondering if JA's "grab and go" kit included KY, birth control, rubber dams, and condoms. I also think it's odd that KY is the only lubricant that seems ever to be mentioned: no Pink, Please, Sliquid, Astroglide, Wet, Slippery Kitty. No "toys", either. I'm thinking in a lot of ways JA is very conventional: KY is quite fuddy duddy! The other item in this train of thought that surprises me is why JA didn't pretend she was pregnant as a way to snag TA.

This! I've pondered and hawed over this pregnancy thing since the beginning. In jodi very manipulative mind I have zero, none doubt IF she could've faked a pregnancy to trap Travis she would've. Either Travis was insistent on being cautious OR they never had vaginal sex, ever.

Agree. IMO the two times they "went all the way" protection was used so there could be no possible way she could try it. And you can't get pregnant by anal or giving BJ in parking lots or grinding

I agree. She could have lied about using birth control/faked a pregnancy. Travis, being a Mormom, would have had no choice but to marry her. I don't for one second believe that she is capable of genuinely loving and caring for a child. She would have used the poor baby to manipulate Travis and keep him close to her. Thank God that it did not happen. It's one of the very few things we can be grateful for in this case.

I'm surprised she didn't get pregnant with another guy, and convince Travis it was his.

I think Travis growing up with so many sisters he was pretty knowledgeable about how babies are made and if they weren't having vaginal sex or was using protection it'd be hard to convince him of Any pregnancy

So, what do we have upcoming. Dr. Geffner vs Juan?

Is JW done with him?

Also, when does the laptop/prosecutorial misconduct pool of motions continue?

  • #908
JW will continue with Geffner. Regarding the motions, who knows...?

  • #909
When do we go back to the torturous court proceedings? I've lost track.

:seeya:

BBM: You got that right !

Re-Trial is supposed to start back up again on Monday ... BUT no telling IF it will continue where it left off, with Geffner on the stand being questioned by JW.

I am prepared for the usual in this case ... delay delay delay by the defense and more frivolous motions by Nurmi !

:gaah:

Reading her journals illustrates the point Rose222 makes about her activities after the killing. They are chillingly manipulative and sinister. It seems obvious to me that she wrote the last part as an alibi, doctoring, fabricating, rewriting. One obvious clue is how she suddenly learns to spell 'ridiculous'. After misspelling the word continually 'rediculous' - she corrects the error. It is though she is checking for spelling mistakes, knowing her words will be read. The tone of the journals (lots of 'anyways' too) reminds me of that horrible voicemail she sent to Travis after slaughtering him. Arias' misspellings amuse me as I remember how smugly she smirked (Jenifer joined her in the 'joke) when Juan Martinez had written down one word incorrectly. The journals show her sadness. If you didn't know that between being too depressed to move she was slashing tires, stalking Travis and playing to a potential reader audience, it would be easier to feel sympathy for her. she is trying to keep a lid on her murderous rage and monumental anger but dark clues pop up frequently.

Good catch on the "rediculous". She misspelled ridiculous every single time (maybe 20?) in the journals EXCEPT after the murder where she corrected it

We should have another thread about predictions of when this trial will end. As of now, I'm thinking March--but maybe that's optimistic...?

The question is not Arias who? The question is Travis who? This is about Travis. And Jodi would have fit right in with Hitler's list of hit men. So in that vein she is not important but infamous, like Hitler. Hitler told others to kill. She killed Travis all by herself. Yes she is bad and has the same cold blooded killer nature as Hitler. She just hadn't yet killed her other victims on her list. For ONE human being to stab someone 29 times, shoot them and slit their throat, I would say she is a serial killer. There was more than one killing. She has it in her. Don't be fooled. Unimportant to you maybe, but extremely deadly.

I understand you think she is an atrocious killer, but a serial killer she is not. The things Ted Bundy did to the women he killed went so far beyond what Jodi did, it's unimaginable.

You are talking about Ted Bundy torturing his victims? I was speaking in the sense that she murdered TA more than once. The stabbings, the shooting or the slit throat could have killed him. Someone with a heart like hers is in fact a serial killer at heart. That is what I am trying to express. No comparison to Ted Bundy. A serial killer by definition is a person who kills more than once. A man in our community killed three different women and just received three DP sentences and was deemed a serial killer. He did not do the things Bundy did.

And yes, I firmly hold to the belief that JA was a serial killer in the making and planned to kill again. Why buy a gun and two large lives and hide the gun while on the run taped to the engine of the rental car? The gun was a legal purchase. Why hide the knives in books? Not worth debating to me really. I won't change my mind about JA and you likely won't either.

Agree. IMO she intended to kill him in the shower with a couple of stab wounds with the blood flowing neatly down the drain. His fighting back led to panic. She freaked out and just kept stabbing until he quit moving. The throat slit took care of him. He wasn't going to make it to the stairs or a phone. IMO the gunshot was a forensic countermeasure to make it appear that two people carried out the crime.
She wasn't as an efficient killer as she had planned to be

The definition of a serial killer:

A serial killer is defined as a person who murders three or more people over a period of more than 30 days, with a "cooling off" period between each murder, and whose motivation for killing is largely based on psychological gratification.

Based on official definitions, and with 1 human being murdered, Arias is not a serial killer. The type and ferocity of the murder itself is not a consideration at all. It comes down to the numbers killed. 3 or more over 30 days meets the criteria.

Susan Wright murdered her husband with nearly 200 stabs of 2 knives and then tried to hide the murder by burying him, though only partly, right in the dirt outside the patio. She's not considered a serial killer either.

Melanie McGuire murdered her husband then chopped him up into pieces and put his body into 3 suitcases and dumped them into a body of water. She too is not a serial killer, though she certainly used more than 29 cuts to get a man's body into small enough pieces.

Sabrina Zunich was 17 yrs old, was having an affair with her foster father, then stabbed the foster mother to death 178 times, and in front of the couple's 13 yr old biological daughter. She's not a serial killer either. She just got 30 yrs to Life, as did the Husband who initiated the affair and encouraged the murder.

Sorry I wasn't clear, no not JA's new prospect, TA's new love interest.

Sorry for being OT, but something has been nagging at me about the journals... granted it's been a few years since I had to worry about birth control but when I did, that was something that would have been one of the major reasons for me to keep a journal, especially given the nature of the relationship that JA would have us believe she had with TA. However, although we certainly seemed to see evidence of some kind of extreme PMS cycle, not once did JA ever broach the subject of getting pregnant or using birth control of any kind. I only recall her even mentioning having a family with TA a couple of times, once in connection with the irises, and one other time that I can't specifically remember and oh perhaps that whole Udi fantasy thing, was that even in the journals....
Well... you won't get pregnant with anal sex.

I'm curious too. I'd also like to see what Dworkin found in 2012 and then deemed "not 🤬🤬🤬🤬" when Juan Martinez reminded him of something he said (and did not repeat on the stand) when he was deposed.

On the other hand, so what? I still am failing to understand how the defense thinks 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on this laptop is exculpatory evidence and a Brady violation. It's not getting clearer to me as time goes on and more motions pile up.

Are we going to have a ruling next week on the defense's Oct. 1, 2014 motion to dismiss the death penalty? Am I correct that JSS has not ruled on any of these motions to dismiss the death penalty yet?

All the delays and breaks make me nuts. I'm forgetting what's going on. How are the jurors going to manage.

My interest in Melendez' report has nothing to do with hard drives and everything to do with the camera memory card. lol But I would like to read his entire report, as we've seen before, the defense has a way of twisting the facts of the matter to make it resemble something else, the more actual evidence brought out the less opportunity he has to do that and create more ridiculous delays. I feel for the jurors too.

I don't believe JSS has ruled on any of the dismiss motions, I wonder how long she'll give this special master to delve through all the computer issues and make a recommendation? 🤬🤬🤬🤬-through-viruses is not exculpatory in my book, I hope this person she appoints has a reasonable head on their shoulders and cuts through all this nonsense in quick fashion. Yeah, in AZ, I must be dreaming. ;)

I guess I'm the kind of person that feels comparisons are sometimes futile. Some worse... some more heinous, some more prolific- none of it changes the story of Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander. It was horrific, terrible and most assuredly shocking, frightening and painful... extremely painful for Travis. Reading Rose's post above really brought that home again for me. This is the part that I think families and loved ones can't get over... the cruelty, brutality of the pain and suffering their loved one went through WHILE STILL ALIVE. I hope I never know personally what that is like.

Arias had the potential. She got a taste of blood. She was armed with weapons when she was arrested. Had she not been arrested when she was, she would've killed again.

Why are we putting ourselves through this? My friends who watched the trial with me have wised up and are only checking the news and Twitter occasionally this go-round.

Why am I here? I don't know! Somehow, I feel like my prayers for TA's family require up-to-the-minute retrial news in order to keep strong. Some kind of solidarity.

Just the thought of another whole day of Geffner's so-called mitigation expert testimony makes me queasy. I cannot imagine how the jury must feel. When I think of TA's siblings there day in and day out… ugh.
