Did all of Maricopa County Superior Court really take 2 weeks off for winter break? Hopefully the calendar might be updated more completely on Monday.

That's what I think, the calendar will be updated on Monday. The legal system is entitled to their Winter Break with their families, just because we want to be done with Jodi, doesn't mean this case would've gotten special consideration in the last two weeks.

When I get some time I'll check and see if that's in the same time frame as when her mom went to her friend, who was apparently Mormon, to ask how and who to contact in Mesa about getting the Bishop there to talk to JA about her emotional problems.

Edit: so far I've found this, not sure on time frame yet.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1304/29/ng.01.html
"SANDRA ARIAS: Because (INAUDIBLE) one of the things when she was here (INAUDIBLE) I called (INAUDIBLE) she`s a member of the Mormon church, and I called the bishop here and wanted to know if there`s any way he could find out where she was going down there to the church because I wanted to talk to him and see if he could talk to Jodi and find out what`s going on because, like I said, she would just totally flip out on me.

And then I had one of her friends call me in the middle of the night, call us one night and say, You need to get Jodi some help."

Edit 2:

Only things I've come across so far is on one of the two entries(so far) for Oct.21, 2007, she says "Something important happened on this date in my past, I just can(sic) remember what it is." then on the 23rd she starts reminiscing about Bobby etc and on Oct.26, 2007 she says she's "over" TA, then starts a pity party. I don't recall if she called MM at that time, will need to go reread it all(this is just from some notes I took while reading the journals the first time) but she then said she'd called MM Dec.7, 2007. Was apparently going through another one of her pity parties about that time.

When did Travis and Lisa's tires get slashed? BTW, thank you so much for finding this. Possibly tomorrow I will have a little time to do some sleuthing, today has been hectic for me. Again, thank you.

I think this crime needs to be put in perspective, perhaps it has been the media involvement more than anything that has created the feeling that this is one of the worst of the worst. HLN had to fill in hours and hours of TV time every night on this case for months and to do so they had to find new angles for their viewers to become outraged over. Even if Jodi does get the DP, which is unlikely, then it will likely be overturned on appeal because her lawyers will be able to argue that the amount of media coverage, and the tone of that coverage, meant the new jury who came in to make a decision on the second penalty trial had already been tainted by it before they were even called. It's a shame both sides couldn't have come to an agreement on life without parole between the first trial and this one.
B&UBM
There's no real possibility - let alone a likelihood - that Arias' sentence will be overturned on the basis of media coverage.

The mere existence of media coverage - however extensive and whatever the tone - is not sufficient grounds for a successful appeal. Defense must provide evidence that it has in fact impacted the trial to such an extent that the jury was unable to be impartial. They have failed to do so in the past, and would fail to do so in future because essentially nothing's changed. There's simply no proof that media coverage has impacted the jury's ability to be impartial.

I recall AZL saying the Calendar was notoriously incomplete and haphazard.

I don't have the exact dates but here are two reports on them:

http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/05/10-stalker-acts-committed-by-jodi-arias-against-travis-alexander-slashed-tires-email-hacking-eavesdropping/

"Just four months before his death on June 4, 2008, Travis called the Mesa Police Department to make a complaint of “criminal damage” because the tires on his car were slashed."

"Lisa Daidone (now Andrews) told the court that in mid to late February 2008 “strange things were happening,” when they were together. During one incident, a home security alarm alerted that a door had been opened but when the couple went to investigate they found nothing. “It was almost as if she knew we were together at the time,” she testified."

http://kristinarandle.com/blog/what-people-said-about-jodi-after-the-killing/
"Interview With Lisa Andrews (Travis’s Former Girlfriend)

… I had asked Lisa about an email she had received after she and Travis both had their tires slashed by an unknown person. She said the tire slashing had occurred back in November or December of 2007, while they were still dating. Travis was at her home late one night and they had received a knock at the door. They went out and didn’t see anyone. Later they discovered that Travis’s tires had been slashed. They thought it was possibly just a random act until the very next night when he was over again and they received another knock at the door. Travis ran out and found his tires had been slashed again. They made a call to the Mesa Police Department to report it… but after several hours of waiting for an officer, they couldn’t wait any longer and left. An official report was never taken…"

Here's the police report on the call:

Since the last court date, JSS has had no cases on her calendar until Monday 1/5/15. She handles many cases, daily. Last time there was an emergency and court was suddenly cancelled, her calender had no cases scheduled then too.

She didn't expect for the defense to go messing with her holiday plans and the penalty phase to drag out beyond 12/22, but they did. The penalty phase has been postponed beyond crazy.

My hope is this prosecutorial misconduct & any other motion will be dismissed this week if there isn't a finale for Jodi. Oh and the secret witness info.

That was what I recall too, though according to what her dad had told Det F, he was the one that was supposed to pick JA up early that morning to go get the rental, so I guess it's back to sleuthing...:

http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1301/22/ng.01.html
"JEAN CASAREZ, "IN SESSION" (via telephone): Nancy, we`re learning some absolutely amazing things from a police incident report that we have just gotten hold of. On July 14th, when Mesa police detectives went to Yreka to arrest Jodi Arias, they found her at her grandparents` house.

They visually surveilled her from outside, and they could see inside that she was packing boxes and packing suitcases. They believed she was going to flee. They stayed there watching her. In time (ph) of that night, of July 14th, a car pulled up. She came outside to talk to a female person in the driver`s seat. They believe that was her mother. It was a lengthy conversation. It ended with Jodi going back into her grandparents` house, her mother driving off.

The next day, they found a brand-new shiny rental car outside of the grandparents` house. They subsequently arrested Jodi, executed a search warrant, and found in that rental car boxes of books of Jodi Arias`s. Intermingled amongst the books were two knives. In her suitcase was a box of .9-millimeter bullets, no gun.

Less than a month later, her mother was inquiring where the gun was that Jodi had hidden in the rental car. They traced the rental car at that point to San Francisco, California, and they found hidden in that car a .9- millimeter gun."

I know we are not suppose to discuss this anymore but it does truly make one wonder, why 2 knives and a gun? I can understand the gun for protection as long as it is registered of course, but knives? not just 1 knife but 2. One other thing of note, the surveillance team apparently missed the hiding of the gun. (JMO)

Edited to add: I too have learned so much in this added phase that has aided me in understanding so much better in what had mystified me prior.

Interesting so her mother asked police? Or did they hear the mother say that on a bug? Either way, mother clearly knew that Jodi had hidden a gun in the car huh? So not cool. Reminds me so much of Jackie Peterson.

When I read that part that less than a month later, Jodi's Mother inquired about the gun, I wondered why did she wait that long? Why did she bother at all notifying the police? She could have left it alone and someone might have found it long after and kept it. Or did she think the finding of the gun later on might be a problem of some kind? Just tossing this out there. (JMO)

Edited to Add: Unless the gun was registered to someone in the Arias family?

Supposedly the gun was registered to JA, though if the surveillance didn't see her going out to get the rental car or hiding the gun, perhaps her dad did all that for her? If you listen to his interview with the police, he said something about how when JA told them she was leaving he'd told JA that she couldn't carry a loaded gun, that the ammo and gun had to be kept separate and he was supposed to have been the one to have picked her up early(7:30am or something like that) that morning to go get the rental.

As for why the mom asked about it, maybe JA wanted them to sell it and send her the money...

I keep wondering if the mothers twin sister was involved in getting the rental and hiding the gun for JA?

Is it really only scheduled for ONE DAY this week? This is getting so pathetic and ridiculous. The jurors are going to start dropping like flies.

So what the hades can we expect tomorrow?

Who knows Steely.:seeya:
Probably more whining and accusations from the Defense. This phase has been so frustrating.

  • #1,015
So what the hades can we expect tomorrow?

My best guess - frivolous complaints from the defense, a lot of whining, Willmott realizing her witness has made no impact whatsoever and her trying (but failing) to correct that, droning on and on and on from the defense witness with absolutely no mitigation value.

In other words - same old, same old. I highly doubt we will get to Juan tomorrow. Unfortunately.

It's been so long, are we still in geffner

I'm expecting Nurmi to need to request a few days off to recover from his hectic work schedule over the holidays. Plus, he will need a few days off to work on his appeal on the COA ruling. Also, a day for hearing oral arguments on why JSS shouldn't release the super secret transcript, plus a day for arguments on their new motion for the prosecution to hand over all info on anyone who touched Travis' laptop. So my guess is, 3 side bars tomorrow morning, followed by a long in chamber meeting, followed by the jury being released and asked to come back next week.

No, more likely the court clerk was on Winter Break as well as everyone else and hasn't updated the calendar and it will be done tomorrow which is a legal workday. Kinda like the world ending simply because the Mayans didn't extend their calendar...
