First of all, she would appeal even if she didn't get the DP. Nor does Nurmi argue about the "case', but, rather, their "representation". Hmmmm. Fact is, they have been scrutinised from the beginning, it's a given, and of course, it will continue. If the argument is simply about appeals, then Nurmi is playing to the judge's fears, nothing more. And most importantly, is that not one of the reasons why the 1st amendment is there- to invite and encourage scrutiny?

I think it is indeed about the DT and how they look. And whatever the murderer was saying was probably shocking, and probably involved smearing her family, and I guess the family doesn't want her lies getting out, either. So it's about the reputations of all involved with the DT, IMO (nor do I believe the judge will unseal this for years after the trial).

What I find even more stunning is that the judge even sealed her reasoning for denying the motion!

Well, Jodi did tell Detective Flores in her initial interview that she was worried about her reputation. Should've thought about that before acting, Jodi!!!
Now the world thinks of her as a bad Mormon, a liar, a sex addict, self-obsessed, a stalker, and a convicted psycho killer. An earned reputation.

I don't think so. I think she's bending over backwards to give the defense team less chances of appeal. By giving in to their game of secrecy, she knows the appeals court will overrule her. She's called the DT's bluff. I really don't think JSS likes Jodi, and she won't hesitate to give her LWOP if the jury votes against Death.
I trust that she understands what she's doing, even if we don't.

If Juan didn't argue against the closed courtroom, then he must see through their BS. No doubt Juan ripped/will rip her to shreds. He's done it before. My favorite moments were when he asked her if she was crying while she slit Travis's throat and stabbed and shot him.

Juan Martinez knows what he's doing. I think we can all relax and know that he's doing his best, which has always been stellar.

I thought that the video from the hearing would be available the evening after the hearing, but I haven't seen it. Has anyone else?

For Juan's not arguing in the hearing, look through the Tweets that came out of the hearing that was held at 3pm on Friday, October 31. I read that all of the usual reporters were not there, but there were a few. After Mr. Bodney presented the arguments for the media's motion to stay the proceedings, the judge asks for arguments from the prosecution and the defense. Juan does not argue.

Damn I always seem to be a day behind in this thread because of the time difference. I'm still convinced the witness on the stand is none other than Jodi. Nothing would give her greater pleasure than to follow VIS, the attention must always be on her, after all she sees herself as the real victim here. Trashing Travis is like a drug to her, it allows her to relive the power she had over him when she butchered him and the worst thing about it is that Jodi enjoys every minute of it, she is the puppet master in this courtroom. On another note I think the source of the leak is none other than Sandy Arias herself. It makes total sense, she was taken into a back room & advised what was about to happen & she was the only informed person outside the courtroom that could pass on this information, all other parties were locked inside the court. JMHO

I absolutely believe it could be her, and yes, she would demand to speak immediately after the Alexanders, imo, to let the jurors know, in no uncertain terms, it was she who was the victim. But, she may have unintentionally let that jury see her dark wrath, which will not bode well for her, in the end.

I understand. But by giving the defense most of whatever they ask for, she might be deciding the outcome of this trial - and in favor of the DT. I worry about the effect of this closed-courtroom on the jury.

The "politics" and drama in the courtroom should not sway a good jury.

They should just stick to the facts, and no matter what BS Jodi comes with at this point is too late. She has lied under oath and will continue to given the chance.

A random thought came through my head. Maybe Jodi asked for her family to be removed because she will confess she stole the gun?

I don't blame them for the way that Arias turned out and for what happened on June 4, 2008. Having said that, they sure are heartless and callous just like Jodi herself. It's strange how these people go into 'slander the victim and make money' mode so quickly!* They are not normal or decent. I'd love to hear what Demarte has to say about them.

When will we ever see a family of the defendant apologising to the victim's family and holding the defendant accountable for his/her actions? In my dreams, I guess.

Rose, they may well have quite a bit to do with how JA turned out. BPD and bi-polar run in my family. It could well run in theirs.

I think Juan is the smartest person I have ever seen, and I have the utmost amount of confidence in him, but I think if someone here has his email or can get something to him, that the comment from Aunt Sue and the post about Jodi testifying on the stand should be sent to him. He probably spent all weekend preparing for tomorrow and may not know. Plus I'd love to see one of JA's mitigating witness's (Aunt Sue) get struck off of the list!

Just, IMO, but from what I saw on review of the timeline, the first media tweet wondering if JA was testifying was about 15 min. prior to the PIO's first announcement about closing the courtroom (Jen's). Several others posted similar guesses while watching the sidebars, chamber conferences, etc. that were going on. Recess wasn't called until about an hour after the 1st announcement, so this Justus person had over an hour of hearing speculation, etc. before posting, at the earliest. According to one media report, speculation about it ramped up even more while everyone was in the hallway. IMO, this Justus is just another one of the JA supporters who wants to be seen w/inside info, and who takes other's tweets and twists them to JA's advantage. I think they actually believe this is PR work they do for her benefit, but how it actually helps her is a mystery to me. Maybe it sells artwork and bracelets?

While I have my skeptic's hat on, Troy Hayden may have received good info, but I'm still waiting to hear confirmation that JA did indeed testify and caused JSS to close the courtroom. Reporters have been duped before, it's possible, and maybe even planned. As poorly as I think she has conducted this trial, I just can't see any logical reason for JSS going to this extreme for JA. JA clearly loved being the center of attention while she was on the stand last trial, and courts the media whenever she can - that's not the reluctant witness that I'd think a judge would believe had suddenly become shy and fearful. May very well be wrong about all of it, but this is just my thinking for now.

All the leaks have come from the DT either directly or indirectly to Kiefer, who then disseminated the information. Other members of the media avoid him because of his unscrupulous behavior, speech and tactics. IMO he received a smack down by The Arizona Republic for his viciousness which can be evidenced in his tweets during this trial, as they are consistent with other tweets by the media. Then we have Justice4all, perhaps his alter, that skewers the Alexanders and JM and seems to only follow MK in the media, and will retweet his tweets. Coincidence? I think not. JMV

You know I LOVE you Zuri, but I had a look at those tweets too and my personal opinion is it's not Kiefer, but someone who has a bee up their backside about the DP, the Alexanders, and the trial by media aspect of the first trial, I have one strong suspicion about who that could be, but it's not Kiefer. Actually, he already has a voice, a strong one, so there is no need for him to tweet in that manner .. xoxo
