Since we have a lull and I did ask the question (worst flight) I guess it's my turn. One was when we hit the wind sheer (if that's what it is called when the plane drops) Our youngest hollered out "cool" Everyone else seemed to freeze. My Husband grabbed my hand with a death grip and looked at me like pleading for an answer. I was calm. I did reply "I got nothing" Luckily we were close to our destination and carts were secure and everyone was in their seats. One of the Stewards did get hurt but nothing fatal. My ultimate worst was flying many, many years ago with 2 other Gal Pals. Long before I was married. There were 3 guys behind us around the same age who took advantage of the booze cart Mach 90. They were trashed 2 hours into the flight. Kept trying to engage convo and none of us were interested. One of them stood up hung over our seats and began singing "your so beautiful" and proceeded to puke all over me. Ya just happened he had the middle seat and so did I. My head, my clothes and we still had 7 hours of flight time ahead. Flight attendants helped me clean up as best they could. Good times. Good times! LOL

Same…I remember watching rin tin tin (now that's showing the old age) - every time something happened to him I had to hide behind the couch. As soon as SA mentioned that I had to give my beautiful british bulldog a big hug.

That reminds me of a story many years ago. Working for a Hong Kong based airline. The Airport Manager decided to upgrade his plumber and wife from economy into first class (contra deal). Wife drinks herself into obliteration throws up on the pax seated in 3A …then proceeds to scrape the vomit up with her knife and fork. This was reported by the crew. I'll never forget sitting in the office when the Airport Manager had a phone call from head office trying to explain his way out of that one.

Also remember working along side an Airport Manager both of us working for a large middle eastern carrier. Sorry I know this is off topic. He was an ex footballer, misogynist, narcissist you name it he had it. He was the only male in the office with an all female staff and unfortunately he was our boss. He would sit there with a mirror in hand carefully scanning his scalp for loss of hair ….. totally paranoid. Two weeks before I resigned ….. I had a thought….my little pug had long black hair (so did this guy - jet black). I brushed busters hair into a little envelope and would be place it onto the top of his comb which lived in the side draw. I would surreptitiously stand behind him and drop several hairs on his nice white uniform shirt. Drove him mad. Sorry all these old stories come flooding back.

The escape slide is normally yellow ….the sides can be grey. The slide can then be detached and used as a raft. Maybe when the slide/raft had been folded it appeared darker in colour.

Sorry to be graphic, but bodies not in the wreckage are going to be all over that great big ocean with personnel only retrieving two or three a day.

Thank you I can see that now. There are different types they can be all grey, all yellow, or a combination of both. The vertical inflatable object provides means to push yourself down or hold on to. The slide and the raft are the same item. Hope this helps.

ok thanks Emirates.....when MSM specifically referred to that item as a ''raft'' and not a slide it raised some questions for me as I was thinking it was the kind of raft that one had to pull from the cubby on the wing ((I noticed the words life raft on the surface of the wings when I board aircraft:thinking:))

that aside though, someone had to disengage it and deploy it.......right.....((sigh))

Just to elaborate….all doors will have a slide which can be used as a raft. When you get on board an A/C the exit doors will have a big bulge on the lower part that is the slide when activated can be used as a raft. The overwing exits have a slide however on an A320 cannot be used as a raft. I think it has something to do with the flaps. Can double check tomorrow.

Indonesian officials like to try to capitalize on disasters, hoping to get more popular out of the misery of people they are supposed to serve. The favorite tactic is to demonstrate their anger in front of the media to those who are supposedly the culprits. They want to shift blame to other parties while showing to the public that they’re acting tough and doing their jobs properly.

This has been blatantly displayed in the aftermath of the crash of Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501 on Dec. 28 ....

The fact is that the management of the Indonesian aviation system has for years been a dangerous life-threatening mess and urgently needs a total overhaul — from corrupt officials to obsolete technology and equipment.

Like a time bomb, a deadly accident is bound to happen within such a messy system.

So the picture that MSM recently claimed is a life raft is actually the emergency slide that was found a week ago? Or are there two separate slides that were found? :scared:
