Here is another report of a jet in the water ...

Indonesia sends team to search Belitung after rumours of jet in water

Indonesian daily Jakarta Post reported a representative from the agency’s base in island’s capital city in Pangkalpinang saying they believed the passenger plane with 162 on board may have gone down 145km to the east of the islands — which is the mid-way mark between its point of departure in the island of Surabaya in Indonesia, and its destination of Singapore.

Indonesia AirAsia has a fleet of 30 Airbus A320s. The missing plane has been in service for just over six years, according to airfleets.net.

All AirAsia-branded airlines operate aircraft made by Airbus, which has orders for several hundred planes from the group. AirAsia is considered one of the European planemaker's most important customers.

If the plane crashed into a mountain on one of the islands, would there be any smoke to be seen in the heavy rain storm?

Two minutes. And during that time the flight crew would be frantically trying to prevent the plane from crashing. They would not be thinking about sending out a May day which could not help them in that situation anyhow. Your priorities would be on preventing a crash. Not asking for help from entities hundreds of miles away.

Right.
A Mayday call wouldn't have been that helpful.
By the time the Mayday call is put out and help arrives, it's already going to be too late.

Just got caught up and I have cnn on *( let's face it, cnn loves missing planes ) . They have not said one word about a crashed plane report or anything of the sort. So were the earlier reports of debris / wreckage untrue? unfounded? hoax? TIA

BBM.
I'm thinking the reports were false.
We would have heard something by now if the plane HAD crashed and debris found.
Such a sad story. I pray there is some resolution soon and this doesn't become another MH370 story.

With MH370, there were early reports that the plane crashed in the South China Sea. Even had a witness that worked on an oil rig who "saw it fall from the sky on fire", IIRC.

From all reports on the news with the Asia Air plane, boats in the area that are equipped with strong lighting are being asked to leave them on and watch the water for debris overnight.

Sounds like they haven't spotted anything prior to the sun setting. Seems they are taking precautions, however.

Looking around right now. I will say, there are a couple of versions of the 8501 manifest, which is making me feel some kind of way. I posted this one because it looks to come from a company of cargo ships, which I assume got the manifest because they have large boats in the area.

I totally forgot about icing.

Has Mary Schiavo been on CNN yet?

She's popped in here and there and I am sure she will be on more throughout the day. It's CNN "B-Team" right now.
