This tragedy is being made worse by this annihilator poisoning every single relationship with his children that he had over the course of these kid's lifetime. The fact that many of these kids escaped his horrible behavior is a testament to their other parent. So sad for the surviving children who keep having more dirt unearthed as they try to keep their focus on the loss of their mom and sibling.

Deranged transgender gunman Robert Dorgan was cousins with his ex-wife, Rhonda Dorgan, whom he gunned down along with their son at a high school hockey game.

The twisted relationship emerged after records showed the killer had the same name as his murdered ex and her parents, who were also seriously injured in his rampage Monday, according to the Providence Journal.

A deep dive then showed that he and Rhonda were first cousins once removed when they tied the knot in 1992

People can be first cousins once removed, a variation of second cousins (yes, I know they're not the same thing) and not even know it. Family relations can be complicated.

One does have to wonder how this guy got multiple women to marry him, and/or breed with him! Was this even a choice for them? This whole family sounds like a total trainwreck.

So what is a first cousin once removed? I know what a first cousin is, but I’m confused over the once removed stuff and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a real grasp on it.

I have to say this situation is already bad enough, but the sensationalistic journalism of the New York Post leaves much to be desired in my opinion

Removed implies different generations. First cousin once removed would be like you marrying your cousin's kid. (Your kids and your cousin's kids would be second cousins - ie 2nd generation, no removal)

From all I've read about this man, it sounds like he had deeply disturbing mental health issues that desperately needed to be dealt with. But clearly, were not. And now his children's lives & in-law's lives are destroyed, and the local hockey community marred forever by this vile act, as a result.

I’m looking at the accusations against them by the deceased wife, and there’s a lot to unpack there from her accusations. And I don’t doubt that those accusations are likely from formal diagnoses that have been given over the years.

In my line of work, people like this are extremely difficult to treat because they don’t believe that they have issues.

Everyone else is the issue but never them-and it’s everybody else’s fault that they are not accepting of the way that they are and everyone else is in the wrong. They often feel that their loved ones or friends should be tolerant of their often abusive behaviors “because that’s just the way I am.”

This type of person is very difficult to treat, especially if there is a personality disorder thrown in. They don’t often stay med compliant (“I’m fine I don’t need meds or therapy!”) and often end up going off the deep end in some way, though not necessarily to this degree. A lot of times they end up where I work (involuntarily usually) after some sort of break.

I’m not a doctor obviously nor do I have insight into this person in particular, but these are my thoughts and opinions just from reading the divorce accusations alone. Someone with these types of issues are very common in my line of work and it all sounds very familiar IMO

Haha nope. First cousin once removed. Your second cousins are your parents' cousins' kids. It definitely gets confusing. 😵‍💫

Good grief OK I am going to have to reread what you’ve said several times in order to wrap my head around it. I’m sure. I do thank you for trying to explain it to me and I’m sure it’s going to sink in after I read it a few times.

An FCOR is the offspring of a first cousin.

Correct; second cousins are the descendants of the great-grandparents.

Whatever one's opinion may be of the gender nonconforming community, it appears that this was the least of his problems.
