Press conference starting now
It's horrifically heartbreaking to see he lived with his wife and children, it could be any reason not connected, but seems targeted or a copycat type thing from some other horrible, horrible monster. I don't know if this is new, but said breaking news of updated and more clear images of the Brown killer. His way of standing and walking per Police Chief at this moment. It is closer up of his walking style and asking for camera footage going back a week and was in that hood last week, Saturday at 10:30 in the morning. Looking for face. IMO![]()
MIT professor shot, killed at Brookline home; Investigation ongoing
One person is dead after a shooting Monday night in Brookline, Massachusetts, according to police.www.wcvb.com
Notes from PC:Press conference starting now
news nation MIT professor fatally shot at home near campusThis is terrifying, and it should be bigger news.
I found this, and it's not a main media outlet, so take it with a grain of salt but:
I haven't found any other sources (as of yet) that confirm a pro-Israel stance, but Professor Friedberg, who's class was subject to the attack had an academic focus on Israel and was also a professor of Judaic studies. However, it's also worth noting that Professor Loureiro is an engineering professor, and the building targeted in the Brown shooting was related to the School of Engineering. I'm not saying this is related, but is the second attack on academia (a university and a college professor) in a relatively small area. I didn't see any apparent links that Friedberg or Loureiro were ever colleagues, or that Loureiro has ties to Brown.
I'm sure LE is investigating any potential links.
EDIT: I'd also be curious if there were any students that attended both MIT and Brown, or attended MIT and applied to Brown for grad (or vise versa).
EDIT 2:
Digging around, I found that Professor Friedberg received her PhD from MIT in 1992 (year per her Linkedin). Of course, Professor Loureiro was only his in his forties, and wouldn't have attending M.I.T at that time (he joined the staff in 2016) but it is worth noting that they both have ties to M.I.T.
So it is starting to feel like this class was targeted and this guy was waiting for a specific time or a specific person maybe in that class.Notes from PC:
On Saturday, the POI was in the neighborhood at around 10:30am -- police are asking people to review surveillance footage up to a week before the shooting
Yeah, the movement patterns and timings strongly suggest he was waiting on someone or something to happen. So it is starting to feel like this class was targeted and this guy was waiting for a specific time or a specific person maybe in that class.
There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the route he's taking before the shooting. It's almost as if he's wandering about killing time before the class ended at 4pm.For the moment, you can still see it here:
They think he was testing out the area.Notes from PC:

Could this be an accomplice? Maybe someone he got the bag from? I'll go back and watch again to see. Were they moving to a location he knew there were no cameras? At 2m35s into the clip (which I've downloaded, just in case) there's a segment with the suspect apparently being followed by someone. The preceding screen says "1416: Video from 110 Benevolent shows POI walking north on Cooke. POI abruptly turns west down George. Second individual follows."
He's running in one video. So strange. Nice cameras and nice neighborhood. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the route he's taking before the shooting. It's almost as if he's wandering about killing time before the class ended at 4pm.
Oh it is beautiful and a historic area, Providence, that area, a city with really great places. IMOHe's running in one video. So strange. Nice cameras and nice neighborhood.
These newer vids are excellent and people WILL know who he is but not knowing WHO he is, who knows if this is shown heavily all over the country and he's back from where he is from. IMOOh it is beautiful and a historic area, Providence, that area, a city with really great places. IMO
According to Professor Friedberg's Brown profile, "Friedberg's Principles of Economics course is the most popular class at Brown, taken by half of all undergraduates." I'm not certain, but I would assume there would be a number of sections of the course - and perhaps a number of review sessions taught by different TA's. I'd definitely be curious to know the review schedules that day for PoE and other courses.wonder if any classes taught by professor friedberg* had any sessions earlier that day. i can't find that information -- might not be public.
*yes, i know she wasn't there at the time, but the shooter may not have known that. it was a session for a class that was nominally hers.
