Moo...does USA have any foreign bases on their soil?.. the reason USA bases are on foreign soil, is an agreement to defend. But if the agreement has changed, USA cannot ask for payment. The only reason the USA is powerful is because they have military bases all over the world. But now the USA wants money for doing nothing. I do find it a lot scary that friend is now for ..unless you pay up...moo

I know we are going to start having German bases and we are going there also.

If he needs a chaperone or hand-holding, he really isn't ready for the big times and should step down immediately. I'm guessing, though, that Starmer made it clear to Zelensky that he needed to put on his big boy pants and go back and make the deal.

Nah the problem is we can not keep having our allies attacked by thugs in the White house.

This article includes a breakdown of financials for various countries who have given grants and LOANS to Ukraine. I don't know that it's unreasonable to expect some compensation. Funds are just not unlimited and the United States has given a lot. Plenty of countries in Europe also have loaned money so I'd assume that means there is an agreement that compensation at some point will be provided.

I don't agree that President Trump is siding with Putin. I think he's trying to get a peace deal that benefits Ukraine and prevents WW3.

I don't really think most people think it will stop WW3 tbh. Anything but in fact.

Normal presidents, either way, put in extremely qualified people with background and well experienced. THe first time around, the qualified and sane people left, walked out. Never been done before. One rule. If you know that you are not personally liked, don’t dwell on a person’s nerves. Zelenskiy knew that he was invited to the Oval Office because of the deal. He tried to make it about everything else before the deal. So it happened as it did.

It became an issue of personalities. Trump who is blunt essentially said, you have bet on Biden last time, now I am elected (he said something about all the counties turning red), and with me, the rules are different.

I think lengthy meeting was unnecessary given the prior history. You came, you sign, you leave. The problem is, even some Ukrainian commentators say that at European meetings, there is some cross of boundaries by Zelenskyy (like, not taking an interpreter). Here, whatever he did, was viewed as boundaries crossed.

And I yet haven’t made up my mind as to why Vance intervened.

IMO Vance was the cause of most of it. He has previously said he didnt care what happened to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president said earlier today that he was “ready” to sign the agreement hours after Mr Trump suspended all military aid to Kyiv, calling it a “step toward” in securing “solid security agreements” from the administration.

It says "the Republican was now holding out for a “bigger, better deal”." What does that mean? A bigger better deal? More for the US and less for Ukraine? Or is he considering adding the security requirements Zelensky wants? MOO

We do not have any foreign bases here in the US, but we have plenty of foreign servicemembers here at the US bases working and going to schools and training. My source is I live on a base and know some of them, I've lived at other bases where they are working and training.

I don't see that any agreement has changed. We have Americans all over Europe ready to defend. We do not have a base in Ukraine. I also don't see the deal that was proposed as the US wanting money for nothing. We have provided money and resources already.

Sure, because everyone knows Trump hates illegal protesting. Except for when they are violently protesting to overturn an election which he lost. In that case, it's pardons for everyone and anyone who got convicted in court or even just arrested.

The U.S. has provided aid to allies without expecting direct payback, but under Trump, that approach has shifted. We didn’t send aid to Ukraine as a down payment on their natural resources; we sent it because supporting Ukraine aligns with our security interests and democratic values. Acting like we now need to “recoup” that support by pressuring Ukraine into a bad deal is a break from how U.S. foreign aid has historically worked. If securing resources was truly the goal, it should have been negotiated upfront—not weaponized while Ukraine is still fighting for survival. IMO

Senior roles in the government go through an entire process. Nomination, confirmation hearings, etc...
Musk went through none of that.
IMO.

Elon Musk is officially serving under President Donald Trump as a special government employee, according to a White House official.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was inside the Oval Office as Trump commented on Musk’s purview.

“Elon can’t do and won’t do anything without our approval. And we’ll give him the approval where appropriate. Where not appropriate, we won’t,” the president said.
