The war in Ukraine is high on the diplomatic agenda next week, with several high-level talks expected.

There are several items in the agenda - including talks in Saudi Arabia aimed at establishing a ceasefire.

  • President Volodymyr Zelensky says he will travel to Saudi Arabia on Monday for talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
  • Their meeting comes a day before Ukrainian officials are expected to hold fresh talks with their US counterparts on Tuesday in Jeddah, where an initial ceasefire with Russia is set to be discussed - Zelensky won't attend these discussions
  • In Europe, EU leaders have been scrambling to come up with a plan - both for how to support Ukraine as US support falls away and how to boost Europe’s own heavily-depleted defences
  • France will host talks on Tuesday with military chiefs of staff whose nations are ready to offer Ukraine military support after any peace deal ending the war with Russia
I hate to say it but I hope President Zelensky doesn't meet with the Americans it's a useless meeting. Because we all know there's no help coming from the USA only more drama and lies , I hope Zelensky keeps safe so he's not poisoned or murdered by them I don't trust Putin or his ally jmvho

Zelensky is responsible?? seriously?? did he invade his own country and start slaughtering them? Think that was Putin tbh.

How did he try and provoke Trump?? by breathing??

Btw..he IS supporting the killing of Ukrainians because due to his choices...this has escalated.

...

For 4 weeks Zelinskyy wasn't showing he was ready to go for a peace deal ....

Because he wasn't willing to sign that US extortionist mineral deal, nor the previous itterations of it. That's what began the "dictator" names from Trump ...

imo.

George W Bush doesn't make too many statements but he did say he condemned Putin's war in Iraq,

Clinton convinced Ukraine to give up ther nuclear weapons never thinking Russia would "pull this stunt". He now regrets it

Obama allowed Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, saying that "there’s a lot of Russian speakers there, and there was some sympathy to the views that Russia was representing.”

<modsnip>
Thank you. Well said.

Those or some of the big reasons why we shouldn’t expect them to weigh in.

US to stop participating in future military exercises in Europe. The U.S. has told its allies that it does not plan to participate in military exercises held in Europe beyond those already scheduled in 2025, Swedish media outlet Expressen reported.
"Source"....always unknown. I'll wait to hear it from our defense secretary.

This doesn't track, DOD hosted a large delegation of UK military leaders this week. We rolled out the red carpet and all our pageantry. They had meetings for an entire day. They spoke to the press from the meeting room, granny and full uniform.

I don't believe we can go to all that trouble if we were dumping Europe. Why are we getting this first hand from Ukraine? The Biden administration probably did not make plans into 2026. The Trump team has been on board since January 21 and we did not have a DOD secretary until several weeks after. I think all countries involved in the Ukraine war, will need to reevaluate plans depending on the outcome of Ukraine.

I ain't buying this... Until I hear it from DOD and Hegseth is very transparent.

Yep I know and this is probably why Zelensky is so popular with all the leaders..except Putin and Trump I guess. There is no suggestion that Zelensky is highly emotional but we know that Trump is. He has shown this over and over and also ofc spectacularly live from the White house. Bad mistake
Froths even, which we saw.

Trump, Putin, and Zelensky will give clear and concise directions to their negotiating teams. This is standard procedure for how negotiations work. The team well calmly, respectfully communicate what their leader is willing to accept or not accept. There's usually not any yelling.

Put all three in the room together, WWIII for sure. They would all be over talking each other and not listening. No that's not how negotiations work.

These are standard practices. They're used by governments, businesses, and most of all divorce attorneys. In a divorce, attorneys do most all of the negotiation. Rarely do the two being representative ever meet face to face.
Moo
High conflict divorces, yes. I hope not all.
It is something nobody has to worry about anyway because as I posted earlier he is not attending the negotiations themselves although he will show up anyway and swan around for some photo ops.

His Oval Office act did him in. He likely won't be attending more negotiations and he likely won't be invited back to the White House
Are you serious? He only shows up for photo ops?

Red carpet and Pageantry? really? Starmer did not get that and Zelensky definetly did not.

Zelensky is responsible for USA being cut off. He is not responsible for the invasion. Had he not made the statement it was going to be a long long war, money, weapons, and communication would still be flowing freely in Ukraine.

He could have at least agreed to come to the table and talk about a peace agreement. Once he heard the terms, he could be justified in walking away. But to not even agree to talk about ending the war, is an injustice to the Ukrainian people. There's nothing lost in communicating. He's been ripped roaring all over Europe and a private jet having meaningful conversations. Why the same refused to have meaningful conversations about ending the war? He doesn't know what Putin's willing to give up or not. If Putin in the financial trouble that the media reports he may give up more than what we think, if he want sanctions lifted. He may agree to give up a pot of money for restoration.

He wants war. To just say NO I'm not going to negotiate. I know Putin doesn't want peace. He hasn't spoken to Putin he don't know what the heck he wants.

If there is no peace agreement, the European countries will soon tire of him.

World order upended by Trump’s Ukraine military aid freeze, expert says

British MP: ‘Trump could be a Russian asset’

Earlier this week, British lawmaker Graham Stuart raised the possibility that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, had been groomed by the Kremlin’s security services over a period of decades.

In a post on X, he said: “We have to consider the possibility that President Trump is a Russian asset. If so, Trump’s acquisition is the crowning achievement of Putin’s FSB career, and Europe is on its own.”
I trust the United States and it's constitution and it's people to make sure there is a check on Donald Trump (from your link). JMO

The thing is the European countries see it very differently. They know his country are the victims. They know he was ambushed at the White House. They only want a peace deal IF its long lasting otherwise we will be back here in a year's time. Putin can not be trusted. Nor can Trump come to that. You said at least come to the table and talk about a peace agreement. What the one he was not invited to?? Trump has made it clear as day he does not think Ukraine needs to be involved in talks.

He does not war. He wants peace. He has made very plain.

He is negotiating... that's what this is all about.
I'm shocked that anyone thinks he wants war. He wants it to end obviously but in a way that will benefit his country and not make things harder in the end... doesn’t that make sense? I'm not sure why this is being portrayed differently or why anyone thinks this..

She did not say that at all...but unlike us she is Part Ukranian..its in her blood. She obviously worries about Zelensky/
I didn't mean it offensively. I am truly interested in what those that support continuing the war are expecting as an outcome. I worry too and I'm not Ukrainian. I pray every night and sometimes several times a day for those in Israel and in Ukraine.

Do they believe Ukraine will win?
How long would it take Ukraine to win against Russia?

I'm interested in those thoughts. So many want the war to continue, I think it's important to know why. I want to see the other side, others viewpoint.

I'm expressed mine. I have war PTSD, truly. I was nervous wreck my entire childhood, especially if the phone rang late at night it was never ever good news. Because of my experiences, the trauma of death at an early age, for so many that I loved, has made me hate war.

I'm sorry for the trauma you endured.
Just trying to understand your side though... so because of that 1 meeting at the White House where negotiations didn't work out, you believe that Zelensky and his supporters want war?

Speak for yourself. Plenty of Americans—including me—don’t buy into the whole “globalist media” conspiracy. In fact, I double-check U.S. news against international sources precisely because I trust the world’s perspective more than the propaganda being fed to Americans right now. Just because you and your circle have decided to dismiss anything that doesn’t fit your worldview doesn’t mean you speak for the “average American.”
Neither do you.

Everyone should watch/listen to this video linked by @PommyMommy. The Uk parliament is united in this issue - and it's cross party. Here you have a conservative MP praising a Labour Prime Minister. What he says is very very interesting and in particular about Musk's own Grok AI! He posted on Twitter/X that Trump could be a Russian asset. Musk replied to him with just a link to a site about "retards". He explains very carefully why it is entirely possible that Trump is a Russian asset of Putin (Putin who spent his life as a KGB agent grooming people to work for Russia). He blows out of the water the argument that Trump is just being philosophical. But more importantly, he says he has faith - in the people of the US and the US consitution, to keep Trump in check and restore world order. He is quite clear that Trump's actions mean US is currently no longer an ally and Europe is on its own. MOO JMO

There's really no need for him to go. He's not part of the negotiation team. He's going early to meet with the Prince. Another photo op, lots of fabulous food and a warm cozy bed. I'm sure they'll treat him very well.
Moo...

It was already arranged before the "peace" negotiations, he had postponed his meeting with the Prince to attend the White House ambush. I would think you would know this as you said you read everything, and there were articles posted in the thread that said so. JMO.
