The US seriously has to get out of the negotiations. Have a read of this article about the Russian propaganda that "envoy" Steve Witkoff has been parroting on Tucker Carlson's show.

I suggest that you listen to the interview yourself and hear Special Envoy Witkoff in his own words and not filtered through the biases of this news outlet. Steve Witkoff is a person of incredible integrity and is nobody's fool. This article is not reflective at all on what he relayed in his interview with Tucker Carlson regarding his role and the negotiations.

Witkoff is a gullible fool. The level of ignorance about Ukraine that he displays is embarrassing. So much so that it's hard to believe it is genuine and he is not being disingenuous here. Either way, he is very bad for Ukraine.
Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff is no fool, nor is he ignorant about Ukraine and Russia. If you listen to the interview with Witkoff yourself, you will see that the media here is spinning a narrative about the negotiations that does not represent the facts.

I had seen clips from his TC interview and read the transcript as it related to Ukraine before reading the above article. Witkoff was not misquoted or misrepresented. He is very positive about Putin and Russia and I do believe he is gullible, or else cynically ignoring Ukraine's best interests to get a deal done fast that benefits the US and Russia. I don't know which is worse. We'll have to disagree on this one.

Tucker Carlson has zero credibility, especially about Russia. Remember his Russia visit? He clearly is biased in favor of Putin.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson's visit to Moscow has received near-constant coverage in Russia's state media, as he prepares to interview President Vladimir Putin.

Social media has also been awash with images of him visiting sites around Moscow, as his every move is followed.

The news host has long been a familiar face for Russians, with clips of his critical outbursts on Fox News against US foreign policy aired extensively across Russian state TV.

Kremlin-controlled television continues to dominate the Russian media, with around two-thirds of people receiving most of their news from there.

In Russia, Carlson is frequently cited as an authoritative source of news, particularly when it comes to his views on the war in Ukraine.

The conservative journalist has been an outspoken defender of Mr Putin.

After Russia had invaded, he changed his tone slightly during a different show, saying "Vladimir Putin started this war... He is to blame for what we're seeing tonight in Ukraine".

Carlson has also called Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator" who "is friends with everyone in Washington".

“I think the largest issue in that conflict are these so-called four regions, Donbas, Crimea… and there’s two others,” adding, “they are Russian-speaking, and there have been referendums where the overwhelming majority of the people have indicated that they want to be under Russian rule.” -Witkoff

What Witkoff chose not to mention was that those were sham referendums, following a mass exodus of local residents who sought haven elsewhere in Ukraine or abroad and often at gunpoint, literally or figuratively.

Many of those who stayed are victims of torture, like beatings, electrocution, waterboarding, and threats of death, with Russian specifically targeting families of Ukrainian military personnel and teachers, including Ukrainian language ones. ...

ISW notes that Witkoff’s statements align with longstanding Russian claims, which have been consistently rejected by the international community. ...

ISW further pointed out that Witkoff’s statements about Russia “reclaiming” these regions contribute to the Kremlin’s false narrative that the occupied territories are now part of Russia, reinforcing the idea that Russia has achieved its territorial goals in Ukraine. This narrative directly contradicts the factual legal status of these areas under international law, where Crimea and the eastern Ukrainian regions remain part of Ukraine despite Russia’s illegal annexation and occupation.

Are you sure about that?

He is a real estate attorney, company director, a billionaire .... then suddenly a special envoy trying to break up wars (not very successfully so far). I think he may be out of his depth. The Peter Principle.

When US officials gush about their love for mass murderers- it's high time to realize that this war is not about far away land- but against all of us. All who do not want to live under mafia rule, better start fighting now & support those who fight. Still €1.5k needed to boost them with tactical gear: https://euromaidanpress.com/lets-support-ukraine/…

Russian drone kills refugee family in Kyiv – but first, Russian forces destroyed their town

A Russian attack on Kyiv killed a father and his daughter who had fled Orikhiv, a town in Zaporizhzhia Oblast destroyed by Russian forces.

BREAKING: Lithuania, following Poland’s lead, has announced plans to fully mine its border with Belarus and Russia.

There is no reason on earth why a real estate investor president would appoint a real estate investor friend to lead negotiations with Russia over Ukraine if there wasn’t a potential financial gain to be had. There are PLENTY of people in the U.S. with a deep knowledge of Russia, Putin and Ukraine who have the diplomatic skill to handle these negotiations. Trump has set this up for Ukraine to lose and go back to Russian control so he and Putin can divide the spoils. This is evil, as is the illegal deportation of so-called Venezuelan gang members to the El Salvador prison. If it can happen to them without consequences it can happen to you.

First they came for federal agencies
And I did not speak out
Because I am not a federal employee.
Then they came for Ukraine
And I did not speak out
Because I am not Ukrainian.
Then they came for the Venezuelans
And I did not speak out
Because I am not Venezuelan.
Then they came for Trump’s enemy law firms
And I did not speak out
Because I am not an attorney.
Then they came for the LGBTQ+
And I did not speak out
Because I am not LGBTQ+.
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Paraphrasing writing by Martin Neimoller. “First they came for the Communists…”

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff has praised Vladimir Putin, saying he “liked” the Russian president as US-brokered ceasefire discussions got under way in Saudi Arabia.

“I don’t regard Putin as a bad guy. He’s super smart,” Mr Witkoff told far-right commentator Tucker Carlson,"

Interesting how the Independent included those hyperlinks in the text!

No other country has been successful in mediating between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine should be the only country that says they want the United States to butt out. In my opinion the opposite has happened and they want/need our help. They don’t have many options. imo

Witkoff is what was called a “communist dupe” by Republicans back in the day. These were supposedly naive people who were fooled by the Soviet Union to be against such things as nuclear weapons, which was said to make them pro-communist. Now, the Republicans are the communist dupes when it comes to Ukraine and NATO. I never thought I’d see the day! How times change!

What other country would Russia allow to mediate? Ukraine thought, until recently, that the U.S. was its friend. It’s clear that is no longer true. Now it’s too late to ask the U.S. to butt out, unfortunately.

Keeping in mind Trump’s revenge and retribution mindset, I wouldn’t be surprised if his enmity toward Zelenskyy dates back to the “perfect phone call” and his subsequent first impeachment.

This made me feel quite ill actually. Not regarding Putin, the war criminal, as a bad guy. And hasn't the US withdrawn from the whole thing about Putin's war crimes as well? It reminds me of holocaust deniers. JMO

That’s my point. No other country is capable of getting it done. Why is that? You don’t mediate by calling Putin a murderous dictator.

Ukraine is an independent country and can do whatever it wants. imo

Unfortunately, the “it” that’s going to “get done” is the loss of Ukraine’s independence, which is exactly what Russia (and Trump) intended all along. Other countries in Europe are in grave danger.

"Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov ....... We have concluded our meeting with the American team.
The discussion was productive and focused — we addressed key points including energy.President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s goal is to secure a just and lasting peace for our country and our people — and, by extension, for all of Europe.
We are working to make that goal a reality."

"Notably, the meeting precedes the talks between US and Russian delegations, which are scheduled to take place on Monday."

All criticisms with no viable solutions. I suppose they can continue the fight. Maybe Europe will step up with more aid and weapons. NATO countries can’t take up the fight. moo

ETA - No matter how many times it’s said that President Trump is being used by Putin, doesn’t make it fact. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. imo

"The electronic hum in the sky above told him that the Russians were on a hunting safari and that he was the prey. Leaping from his bicycle, Oleksandr left its wheels spinning as he bolted through a hole in a fence hoping to find cover.

Horrified to discover he was still in the open air, he threw himself against the fence, hoping to blend in, to somehow hide. The drone tracked sideways, hung above him, and dropped its bomb.

The explosion tore a chunk of his leg away.

Kherson was liberated from Russia in November 2022. Since then it has been shelled, mortared, rocketed, and bombed every day.

Now it is also contending with being a target-practice area for Russian drone pilots who post videos of their “hunting trips” onto Telegram."
