The White House has fired at least three National Security Council staffers, three sources familiar with the move told CNN.

The three officials include Brian Walsh, a director for intelligence and a former top staffer for now-Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the Senate Intelligence Committee; Thomas Boodry, a senior director for legislative affairs who previously served as Waltz’s legislative director in Congress; and David Feith, a senior director overseeing technology and national security who served in the State Department during Trump’s first administration.

when they fire these people, are their careers just over? And is there some one else minding the shop? I am unfamiliar with military personnel procedures.

Key Takeaways:
  • Russia seeks to leverage ongoing ceasefire and future peace negotiations to seize large amounts of territory in Ukraine and install a pro-Russian puppet government in Kyiv but will likely continue military operations in Ukraine if the Kremlin is unable to achieve a full Ukrainian surrender through diplomacy.
  • Russia is facing significant military and economic challenges that could seriously compromise Russia's ability to wage its war in Ukraine, factors that could increase the Kremlin's desire to accomplish its objectives in a mediated ceasefire or peace negotiation in the short-term if possible.
  • The US Treasury Department announced on April 2 that the United States lifted sanctions on Karina Rotenberg, the wife of Russian businessman and oligarch Boris Rotenberg.
  • Ukrainian forces advanced near Pokrovsk. Russian forces advanced in Kursk and Belgorod and near Lyman, Toretsk, Kurakhove, and Velyka Novosilka.
  • The Russian State Duma adopted a bill on April 3 to grant veteran status to Russian military personnel and volunteer formations that fought in Kursk Oblast.

These are civilians, not military personnel. I’m sure people will be hired to replace them. Just like the federal employees fired by Musk, they will have to find employment elsewhere.

I just want to highlight this part ... because sometimes these things get missed amongst the information.

Sanctions were lifted yesterday on Karina Rotenberg. She is the wife of a close oligarch ally of Putin, one of Putin's childhood friends.

So now they have someone to legally and quietly funnel US/Russian funds through. imo

Trump administration lifts sanctions on wife of Putin ally Boris Rotenberg

And it is very coincidental that it happened while Russian investment envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, is in Washington DC meeting with the Trump administration.

Top Russian negotiator says US businesses would be welcome in Russia if sanctions were lifted

"French and British army chiefs are in Kyiv on Friday to discuss developing plans for a peacekeeping force in Ukraine.

"There will be at some point a need for military capacity or reassurance, whenever peace is reached. And this is the reason why our army chiefs will be in Kyiv today in order to advance this work," French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot said in Brussels

He was joined by David Lammy at the Nato headquarters, who accused Russian president Vladimir Putin of continuing to “drag his feet” on accepting the proposed ceasefire deal."

The Trump administration has fired the director and deputy director of the National Security Agency, the United States’ powerful cyber intelligence bureau, according to members of the Senate and House intelligence committees and two former officials familiar with the matter.

The dismissal of Gen. Timothy Haugh, who also leads US Cyber Command — the military’s offensive and defensive cyber unit — is a major shakeup of the US intelligence community which is navigating significant changes in the first two months of the Trump administration. Wendy Noble, Haugh’s deputy at NSA, was also removed, according to the former officials and lawmakers…

It wasn’t immediately clear why Haugh and Noble were fired. Lt. Gen. William Hartman, an experienced military officer and the deputy of Cyber Command, is expected to serve as acting head of the command and NSA, the two former officials said.

It sounds as if Laura Loomer got them fired. Six people in total.

..... it found that one NSC official had recently criticized Trump on social media and others had ties to Republican establishment figures like the senators John McCain and Mitch McConnell, whom Trump despises.

It does sound like it.
Whoever thought she'd have that amount of power.

The article I posted said she doesn't even have a "hard pass" to the White House.

I wonder how these firings will affect things for Ukraine. If the US will still uphold intelligence sharing with them. Or if that is going to change (again), dependent on that seemingly very unfair minerals deal approach.

imo

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on 4 April that the Trump administration expects Russia to demonstrate readiness to end the war “within weeks, not months.”

According to Rubio, Russia is currently violating the ceasefire agreement.

“If there are waiting tactics and delays, we will not be interested in this. And President Trump will not fall into the trap of endless negotiations,” Rubio said.

“Trump has been advised that a phone call isn’t a good idea unless Putin has conveyed to the White House that he agrees to a full ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war,” the officials told NBC.

Meanwhile, Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev met with White House officials and Republican lawmakers at the White House, according to three US officials familiar with the meetings. It remains unclear if Trump participated in these discussions.

The officials confirmed that Dmitriev met with Republican Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. This meeting occurred “at Trump’s request” and involved discussions about “terms for ending the war in Ukraine and Putin’s demands for a ceasefire.”

During his two-day visit, Dmitriev met with American envoy Steve Witkoff, who had previously met with Putin in Moscow last month as part of President Donald Trump’s push for a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview with Fox News, Dmitriev claimed the White House talks had a “positive outcome” and suggested the Kremlin could be open to security guarantees for Kyiv.

“Some security guarantees in some form may be acceptable,” he said, without specifying which ones. However, he firmly ruled out Ukraine joining NATO as “not at all possible.”

It appears I spoke too soon. Subsequent articles mentioned the firing of Gen. Timothy Haugh. He will be replaced in the position by another General and will no doubt be reassigned to another “less sensitive” position.

The Pentagon has spent decades building, financing, and developing a global network of suppliers and companies many of which are now facing tariffs.

Without defense exemptions, the administration could negate much of that work, delaying the production of U.S.-made weapons for the country and other buyers.

"The prices are going to go up, and the prices that DOD (U.S. Defense Department) has to pay are going to go up," Kelly said. "Our defense budget, if we want to maintain the same type of force, will get more expensive." - Senator Mike Kelly

Ukraine is conducting an internal audit regarding the minerals deal with the U.S, analyzing its compliance with the Ukrainian Constitution, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha told Suspilne on April 4.

The news comes after Washington and Kyiv reportedly discussed the draft on the expanded minerals agreement proposed by the U.S. at the end of March.

Sybiha said the minerals deal "cannot contradict European integration, we are telling the Americans that."

President Donald Trump did not impose new tariffs on Russian or Belarusian goods because US sanctions already “preclude any meaningful trade,” White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told Axios.

Meanwhile, Trump imposed a 10% “base” tariff on Ukraine and longtime ally, the UK.

Cuba, Belarus, and North Korea were also excluded from the new tariffs. Leavitt said these countries already face high tariffs and strict sanctions.

The whole thing is really heart-breaking. I wish we would do more to help Ukraine right NOW. I wish someone could work out what that "more" is. :(

A Russian missile struck an ordinary city, directly hitting a street in an area with residential buildings. Preliminary reports suggest it was a ballistic missile strike. As of now, 14 fatalities have been confirmed, including six children. My condolences to their families and loved ones.

The rescue operation is ongoing, at least five residential buildings have been damaged.

Russian strikes occur every day. People die every day. There is only one reason why this continues: Russia doesn't want a ceasefire, and we see it. The whole world sees it. Each missile, every attack drone proves that Russia seeks only war. And only the world's pressure on Russia, all efforts to strengthen Ukraine, our air defense, and our forces—can determine when the war will end.

The United States, Europe, and the rest of the world have the capacity to force Russia to abandon terror and war. And this must be ensured—peace is needed.

Rescue operations are currently underway in Kryvyi Rih following a Russian missile strike. As of now, 16 people are confirmed dead, including six children. In Kharkiv, rescue efforts continued all day after a targeted Russian drone strike. A deliberate attack by six “Shahed” drones. Sadly, five people were killed. Thirty-four were injured. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. In Kherson – another targeted strike by a Russian FPV drone hit an energy facility – the Kherson thermal power plant.

These strikes cannot be accidental – the Russians know exactly what they’re hitting. They know these are energy facilities that should be protected from attacks under what Russia itself promised to the American side. Every Russian promise ends with missiles or drones, bombs or artillery. Diplomacy means nothing to them.

That’s why pressure is needed – sufficient pressure on Russia so they feel the consequences of every lie, every strike, every single day they take lives and prolong the war. A ceasefire could have already been reached – it is Putin who rejects it, it is Moscow that has refused a ceasefire since March 11. It is they, in Russia, who want this war. And it’s obvious that Russia won’t be forced into peace just by talks or expectations.

I’m grateful to everyone in the world whose strength helps diplomacy and all efforts for a just peace become effective. We count on America, on Europe, on other partners – we count on their ability to put pressure on the sole cause of this war: Russia’s desire to destroy and kill.
