We need to unite not only Europe and the G7 but also all other countries around the world for the sake of peace. Many of you have connections across the globe – in Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Pacific region. We want to end this war in a just and final way. We’ve mobilized diplomacy to the maximum to achieve this. The world must understand that Russia is the only obstacle preventing peace.

I ask you to talk to everyone – from Brazil to China, from African nations to Asian countries – about the fact that real peace is needed. Peace through strength. Peace through forcing Russia to take all necessary steps for the sake of peace.

For many years, Putin has been lying to the world, claiming that he did not provoke or prolong this war. But now, with the ceasefire situation, everything is clear. Whoever imposes unnecessary conditions that complicate and delay everything – that is the true cause of the war. Putin does it.

The path to peace must begin unconditionally. If Russia doesn’t want this, then strong pressure must be applied until they do. Moscow understands one language.

I ask you to talk to America, to President Trump, to help bring peace faster. This can happen through full sanctions, strong pressure, and forcing Russia to make peace.

Hundreds of attacks on our cities and communities this week: Chernihiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Poltava, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy regions. The Russians launched over 1,020 attack drones, nearly 1,360 guided aerial bombs, and more than 10 missiles of various types.

Those who want the war to end as soon as possible do not act this way. That is why we must jointly continue to put pressure on Russia to force an end to its aggression. Decisive measures are needed, including sanctions that must be not only maintained but also continuously strengthened.

Ukraine, Europe, America, and everyone in the world who wants peace – together, we can ensure a just and lasting peace.

Trump-Putin phone call expected this week, White House envoy says.

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to hold a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin this week, Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, said on March 16. “I expect that there will be a call with both presidents this week, and we’re also continuing to engage and have a conversation with the Ukrainians,” Witkoff told CNN after meeting Putin in Moscow on March 13, as cited by Reuters.https://kyivindependent.com/trump-putin-phone-call-expected-this-week-white-house-envoy-says/

Trump silences Voice of America and RFE/RL

Trump's administration cut funding for US-backed international media outlets broadcasting independent journalism to millions in authoritarian countries worldwide.

'Bloody Saturday' at Voice of America and other U.S.-funded networks

Journalists showed up at the Voice of America today to broadcast their programs only to be told they had been locked out: Federal officials had embarked on indefinite mass suspensions.

[...]

In addition, under the leadership of Trump appointees, the agency has severed all contracts for the privately incorporated international broadcasters it funds, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks.

The termination notices for grants for the funded networks, two of which were reviewed by NPR, carried the signature of Trump's senior adviser Kari Lake, whom he placed at USAGM, not the agency's acting chief executive. Lake does not appear in her current job to have the statutory authority to carry out that termination.

[...]

"The cancellation of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's grant agreement would be a massive gift to America's enemies," Steve Capus, the president of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, said in a statement today shared with NPR. "The Iranian Ayatollahs, Chinese communist leaders, and autocrats in Moscow and Minsk would celebrate the demise of RFE/RL after 75 years. Handing our adversaries a win would make them stronger and America weaker. We've benefitted from strong bipartisan support throughout RFE/RL's storied history. Without us, the nearly 50 million people in closed societies who depend on us for accurate news and information each week won't have access to the truth about America and the world."

[...]

The reporting of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, for example, has vexed autocratic-minded leaders in Russia and Hungary, as well as their allies. The network's journalists have been imprisoned or detained in Russian-controlled Crimea, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Russia itself.

Drone Footage Shows Huge Gravesites Of Ukrainian Soldiers | RFE/RL Exclusive

As the full-scale invasion enters its third year, the Ukrainian government keeps official casualty numbers classified, but estimates suggest tens of thousands have died. In some areas, mass graves have been dug to accommodate the growing losses. A local told RFE/RL's Ukrainian service ‪@RadioSvobodaUkraine‬ this illustrates the heavy price of defending big cities like Kharkiv.

Are US Weapons Still Firing On The Battlefield In Ukraine? | Ukraine Front Line Update

US-made weapons continued to be actively used on Ukraine's battlefields despite a temporary pause in military aid from the United States. Deliveries of ammunition and weapons resumed on March 12 after being suspended for just over a week. RFE/RL's Maryan Kushnir met frontline troops in the eastern Donetsk region who said the pause had had little impact.

If a military force is needed to keep the peace in Ukraine, Belgium will send soldiers.
The promise was made by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever during a virtual summit organised on Saturday by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

On Thursday, a meeting will be held in the United Kingdom with military leaders from countries wishing to contribute to the peacekeeping force.

On 16 March 2022, hundreds of local civilians were sheltering in the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre in Mariupol as the city was besieged by Russian forces.

A Russian airstrike killed a many as 600 people that day, in one of the most infamous events of the war.

Today in Prague, a memorial event was held, where people created a giant sign reading "Children" in Russian and lit candles.

Retired senior diplomat Lord Peter Ricketts spoke to Sky News' Trevor Phillips earlier.

Lord Ricketts warned that fighting in Ukraine could continue for another year, as peace negotiations drag on.

When asked what the best possible endgame was for the war in Ukraine, he said it would end with Kyiv's independence and the freedom to join NATO if it wanted.

UK proposes Western peacekeeping mission of 10,000 troops in Ukraine.

Most of the troops would be provided by the U.K. and France, U.K. military sources told the Times. Thirty-five countries would provide weapons, logistics, and intelligence support.

West can send troops to Ukraine without Russia's permission, Macron says.

"Ukraine is sovereign – if it requests allied forces to be on its territory, it is not up to Russia to accept or reject it," French President Emmanuel Macron said.

Zelensky announces upcoming Ramstein summit in Brussels.

"We are preparing for Brussels," Zelensky said. According to the president, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is currently organizing the next meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (UDCG).

Erdogan sends a fiery message to Putin, reminding him that Crimea is Ukraine

On the 11th anniversary of the so-called “Crimean referendum,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that they do not recognize the illegal annexation of the peninsula and fully support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

This week, Turkish President Recep Erdogan also spoke out about the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that Ankara has repeatedly condemned Russia’s aggression and called on both sides to negotiate.

That is a bit misleading of Sky News .... underneath the video, and in it, it says "United States President Donald Trump has shared ceasefire negotiations with Russia are going “reasonably well”. President Trump is seeking the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin for a 30-day ceasefire proposal. Ukraine accepted this proposal last week".

I thought a ceasefire deal had actually been reached! But it is only what we already know.

(Just in case others think a deal has been reached.)

Only Ukraine has agreed to the 30 day ceasefire. Russia is prolonging the negotiations on its side.

I didn’t want this information about Trump’s attack on the free press to go unnoticed. This is just one sign of the autocracy that is quickly overcoming the U.S. Although this affects Ukraine and other countries, it represents Trump’s attitude the press in the U.S. as well. PLEASE pay attention!

The Trump administration appears bent on silencing Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, something Moscow tried but failed to achieve and that will only help escalate its repression and crimes in occupied Ukraine.

These were the immediate results of an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump on 14 March 2025, reducing USAGM to its minimum legal functions. In reporting the move, Deutsche Welle noted that USAGM is headed by a Trump ally, Karl Lake and that during his first presidential term, Trump had clashed with VOA and forced two of its directors to resign. The executive order this time was issued a day after a speech in which Trump blasted liberal media, such as CNN and MSNBC, claiming them to be ‘corrupt’ and ‘illegal’.

So at 9:30 this morning Trump posts that
"We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end - BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOOS ARE COMPLETELY SURRONDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!"

Is he serious!? Does he really think he's helping matters by posting this obvious, to me, insincere public plea for mercy to a murdering dictator and it will make any bit of difference in the matter? Or is it just a bombastic private joke between two good ole boy buddies to puff eachother's image up? One will be absurdly depicted as a merciful man and the other as greatest negotiator...in the history of negotiations...ever...look what we did?

My prayers are with all Ukrainian troops and civilians fighting against this devestating horror that invaded their country.
Putin probably told him that, but according to Ukrainian press it wasn't true that they were surrounded - they retreated apparently. Difficult to know what's what with that situation. Asking Putin to spare lives lol! He's already classed those captured as terrorists. MOO

According to Zelensky, discussions of the territories were not part of the meeting's agenda. He reiterated that Ukraine will not recognize any occupied territories as part of Russia under a potential future peace agreement with Moscow.

"The American side goes into details. For example, the city of Enerhodar... You can't just say: here's the (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power) Plant, and the city is separate. I believe that the issue of territories is the most difficult one after the issue of establishing a ceasefire," Zelensky said.

Russian forces currently occupy roughly 20% of Ukraine, from where reports of systematic repression, torture, and forced deportations regularly emerge.

MAR 15, 2025
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Russia to accept a proposed 30-day ceasefire deal put forward by the United States and Ukraine.

Ukraine has started assembling a team to develop monitoring mechanisms for a potential 30-day ceasefire, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced on March 14.

On March 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was open to accepting the ceasefire but insisted that Ukraine suspend mobilization, military training, and foreign military aid deliveries for the duration of the truce.

U.S. President Donald Trump responded to Putin’s remarks, calling them "very promising" but "not complete," and indicated a willingness to meet with the Russian leader.
"He reiterated that Ukraine will not recognize any occupied territories as part of Russia under a potential future peace agreement with Moscow."

So no truce then, as we expected! Putin won't agree to a truce unless Zelensky agrees to give up those territories (and a lot more) and Zelensky won't agree to give up the territories - which is understandable! JMO

But Putin will class that as being at War with Europe if Europeans are on Ukrainian territory - he's said that many times. He also said something about peacekeeping forces should be from neutral countries. Irish peacekeeping force then perhaps? MOO

‘No ceasefire will work’: US medics on Ukraine’s frontline scorn Trump’s peace talks

“Getting blown up was not so traumatic compared to the situation that we were in with no comms. No comms, you know, in a grey zone, no communications, no navigational reference,” says Rebekah, 31, a permanent frontline medic volunteer from Colorado in Ukraine since March 2022.
Yet even more traumatic was hearing her own president turn on Ukraine’s president and switch sides, to backing the Kremlin. She heard him do that while watching a drone feed of another of her teams under fire trying to rescue wounded soldiers on the front line near Toretsk, north of Donetsk.

Recap: What is happening on Sumy border?

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Putin could be planning an attack into Ukraine’s Sumy region.
On Saturday, Zelensky said Moscow had accumulated troops on the eastern border of Ukraine, indicating an “intention to attack our Sumy region”.
“We are also observing directions along our eastern border of Ukraine, where the Russian army is building up forces,” Zelensky wrote on X.
“This indicates an intention to attack our Sumy region. We are aware of this, and will counter it. I would like all partners to understand exactly what Putin is planning, what he is preparing for, and what he will be ignoring.”
