On 26 March, Zelenskyy told reporters that the US had proposed a “major” new deal and that Ukrainian officials were still reviewing its terms. Two days later, he said Washington was “constantly” changing the conditions of the proposed minerals agreement but stressed he didn’t want the US to think Kyiv opposed the deal.

The program, run by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab, has been critical in documenting child abductions since Russia’s invasion. Researchers lost access to the database last month after officials terminated the contract over concerns about wasteful spending and, reportedly cutting off the evidence for war crimes investigations. Democratic lawmakers previously urged the administration to restore the program.

According to State Department sources, funding will be provided temporarily to ensure the transfer of crucial data to appropriate authorities. A department spokesperson said, “It is part of the standard close-out procedures for terminated programs.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “playing games and playing for time” in peace talks with Ukraine. Speaking in Paris on 27 March, Starmer criticized Putin’s demand for sanctions relief before implementing a US-brokered maritime ceasefire.

According to BBC, Starmer stated:
Everything the Trump administration is doing right now is so shady, such bad choices. Very suspicious and secretive.

Today, there are many interesting updates from the Toretsk direction. Here, with Russian forces weakened and stretched thin, Ukraine is pressing forward in Toretsk with a coordinated and relentless assault. Using precision airstrikes, artillery, and elite ground units, еhey are systematically dismantling Russian defenses, paving the way for the next phase of their offensive.

Additionally, the Azov Brigade had been deployed to the southern flank of Toretsk and had announced that they had completed their clearing operation at Shcherbynivka and Leonidivka, where isolated Russian squads that had failed to capture the settlements ended up trapped in basements for months. The Brigade’s stormtroopers conducted cautious advances using small arms fire and grenades to flush the Russian troops out of their positions. Those who chose to fight were swiftly eliminated, while others surrendered, allowing Ukrainian forces to secure complete control over the villages.

Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans has warned that Russia could be ready to execute a “large-scale” troop movement approximately one year after any ceasefire or peace agreement in Ukraine, according to Dutch military intelligence.

In a speech, Brekelmans painted a scenario where Russian President Vladimir Putin might station “hundreds of thousands of troops on the border with the Baltic countries for a large-scale exercise,” noting that Ukraine’s experience shows “we know only one week in advance” whether such movements are merely exercises or preparations for an attack.

Russia views its relations with the West as a systemic conflict and is preparing for a major war with NATO, according to a new report by Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and the Bundeswehr, BILD reports.

Since 2022, Russia has escalated its hybrid warfare campaign against the West, employing a multifaceted strategy to destabilize European societies and undermine support for Ukraine. This campaign includes sabotage operations, such as arson attacks and incendiary devices, cyberattacks, disinformation, and election interference. Russia has targeted various European countries, including Germany, the UK, and Poland, with the aim of sowing discord and weakening Western unity.

Throughout last evening and night, Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 170 drones, including over 100 Shaheds. This massive attack targeted the Dnipro, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

All night in Dnipro, the aftermath of this attack was being dealt with. As of now, four people are confirmed dead. My condolences to their families and loved ones.

Twenty-one people were injured, including a pregnant woman. Residential buildings, a hotel-restaurant complex, garages, and a car repair shop were destroyed or damaged in the city.

Unfortunately, there was destruction in every region that came under attack. Our unwavering gratitude goes to everyone helping people on the ground after such strikes – those rescuing, providing medical aid, and clearing the rubble.

Russia mocks the world’s peace efforts – dragging out the war and committing these acts of terror because it still doesn’t feel real pressure. Diplomacy can work, but only when backed by actions that strengthen our warriors and deprive the occupiers of the resources to wage war. Our partners know what can help, what kind of pressure, and it depends on America, on Europe, on everyone in the world who wants effective diplomacy.

Trump and the US oligarchs somehow think a 3rd World War will somehow benefit them financially. I suppose this is why Musk was seeking to learn about the US military's plans for responding to Chinese aggression?

Do these idiots have some stupid plan they think will allow the US to benefit from allowing Russia to attack NATO and start WW3? Obviously, Trump/Musk/Oligarchy don't care about the safety of Americans, either here or abroad.

I hope our leaders here in the US are working on a plan to remove these monsters from control of the US government and military ASAP.

Russian drones struck a military hospital, shopping centre, apartment blocks and other targets in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, late on Saturday, killing two people and injuring at least 25, local officials and the Ukrainian military said. On the Telegram messaging app, the military’s general staff said those injured included servicemen undergoing treatment in the medical centre. It accused Russia of having carried out a “war crime” and of “violating the norms of international humanitarian law” denouncing the “deliberate, targeted shelling” of the facility. Oleh Syniehubov, the regional governor, said 25 people were hurt, including a 15-year-old girl who is in serious condition.

Yesterday’s Russian strike on Kharkiv sadly took the lives of two people. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Around 30 people were wounded—all have received the necessary medical assistance. I thank our rescuers and medics who work every day for our people.

Over the past week, most regions of Ukraine have come under attack: 1,310 Russian guided aerial bombs, over 1,000 attack drones—mostly "Shaheds"—and 9 missiles of various types, including ballistic ones. A significant number were successfully shot down by our air defense warriors, mobile fire groups, and all units involved in protecting our skies.

Russia is dragging out the war, and we are providing our partners with full information on the strikes the Russian army is carrying out and the actions it is preparing for. We expect a response from the United States, Europe and all our allies to this terror against our people.

I thank all the leaders and states who understand this and continue their support. The stability and predictability of support for Ukraine are crucial. I am grateful to every country that helps us with air defense systems and investing in our defense industry—all of this helps protect Ukraine.

The White House dismissed nearly all staff at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) headquarters in Washington, D.C. on March 29, the Washington Post (WP) reported.

The institute plays an active role in mediating conflicts and assisting with peace negotiations in war-torn countries, including Ukraine.
"We'll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%," Trump said.

The comments come a day after U.S. Vice President JD Vance made a controversial visit to Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. In remarks to servicemembers at an American military base, Vance criticized Danish stewardship of the Arctic island and suggested Greenland would be safer under the U.S.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Vance's remarks were "not accurate."

Stubb's visit was "unofficial," according to a press release from the Finnish government. It involved breakfast, lunch, and a round of golf.

Following his meeting with Stubb, Trump announced that the U.S. would purchase Finnish icebreaker vessels.

The icebreakers are critical to Trump's plans to expand U.S. power over the Arctic. The purchase announcement comes a day after U.S. Vice President JD Vance made a controversial visit to Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory Trump has threatened to annex.

Ukrainian and U.S. officials held talks via video call alongside legal experts to discuss the new minerals deal on March 28, the source said. U.S. officials reportedly did not push back on Ukraine's concerns, particularly concerns about how such an agreement would impact Ukraine's EU aspirations.

Zelensky said on March 28 that Ukraine would not sign a minerals deal that interferes with Ukraine's accession to the EU.

"The Constitution of Ukraine makes it clear that our course is towards the EU ... Nothing that could threaten Ukraine's accession to the EU can be accepted," he said.

Zelensky decried the strikes not only for targeting civilians in Ukraine but for undermining international efforts to establish peace in Ukraine.

"Our partners should clearly understand: these strikes are not just attacks on Ukrainian civilians, but also on all international efforts — on the very diplomacy we are trying to use to end this war," Zelensky said.

"We expect a response — a serious one. We are working toward a response. A strong response is urgently needed — above all from the U.S., from Europe, from everyone in the world who has placed their bets on diplomacy. Russia must be forced into peace – only pressure will work."

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has reaffirmed that Greenland is part of NATO and called for the Alliance to bolster its security presence in the Arctic.

Denmark is a strong and reliable ally to all members of NATO, including in the face of the Russian threat. We have significantly increased our defense spending and have stood side by side with the US in many difficult situations over the years. The Vice President’s characterization of Denmark does not reflect reality,” Frederiksen states on social media.

ussia has occupied the southeastern part of Kherson Oblast since 2022, with the Dnipro River separating it from the Ukrainian-held area. Low-level fighting has been ongoing for control of the Dnipro estuary islands, while Russian forces recently started unsuccessful attempts to cross the Dnipro and establish a beachhead on the western bank controlled by Ukraine.

ATESH agents report growing panic among Russian troops in the Kherson direction. Following significant losses near the front line, the command is taking urgent measures to strengthen defenses, including by transferring equipment from Crimea,” the resistance movement stated.

Captured North Korean soldiers in Ukraine have revealed that Pyongyang operates a military training base designed to resemble Seoul and other major South Korean cities, according to LRT.

Moscow is transferring military technologies to Pyongyang in exchange for the deployment of South Korean troops to fight against Ukraine. Previously, Ukraine reported that Pyongyang had initially sent 12,000 soldiers to Russia, while Seoul’s estimate was more conservative, at 11,000. These troops played an active role in Russia’s ultimately successful effort to push Ukrainian forces out of most of their bridgehead in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.

“The whole of Ukraine needs to be simply etched off the map so that this country is not on the map. We need to wipe them from the earth,” Russian soldier Ivan Klimenko told his mother in an intercepted phone call in April 2022, when the world first witnessed Russian atrocities in Bucha.

“The US did this to them,” his mother responded briefly before Ivan vowed to shoot all Ukrainians on his way and carve swastikas on their bodies.

His words — shocking to most — echo rhetoric that has filled Russian media for years. Klimenko’s words reflect a broader narrative ingrained in Russian discourse.

This is an excellent piece by the NY Times.

The Partnership: This is the untold story of America’s hidden role in Ukrainian military operations against Russia’s invading armies.

...
In mid-April 2022, about two weeks before the Wiesbaden meeting, American and Ukrainian naval officers were on a routine intelligence-sharing call when something unexpected popped up on their radar screens. According to a former senior U.S. military officer, “The Americans go: ‘Oh, that’s the Moskva!’ The Ukrainians go: ‘Oh my God. Thanks a lot. Bye.’”

The Moskva was the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The Ukrainians sank it.
...
Then, in the portentous days before Russia’s full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, the Biden administration had closed the Kyiv embassy and pulled all military personnel from the country. (A small team of C.I.A. officers was allowed to stay.) As the Ukrainians saw it, a senior U.S. military officer said, “We told them, ‘The Russians are coming — see ya.’”

When American generals offered assistance after the invasion, they ran into a wall of mistrust. “We’re fighting the Russians. You’re not. Why should we listen to you?” Ukraine’s ground forces commander, Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, told the Americans the first time they met.

“We’re fighting about where the new Iron Curtain will be,” warns Anders Puck Nielsen during a visit to Kyiv. His voice carries the measured tone of someone who has spent decades assessing military threats, but the message is unambiguous: Europe’s security architecture is being redrawn through Ukraine’s blood.

For Nielsen – a Danish naval officer, military analyst, and influential YouTube commentator with nearly a quarter million subscribers – Ukraine’s position in this new geography is non-negotiable. “Europe needs Ukraine on its side of that line,” he insists.

"Trump doesn't understand this war" - Danish defense analyst on Ukraine's real strategy
