Exiled Russians Build New Life In Mongolia​


Hundreds of thousands of Russians fled their country after it announced conscription for its war in Ukraine, heading in large numbers to countries such as Turkey, Armenia, or Georgia. But for many living in the east of Russia, the nearest and easiest destination was Mongolia.

Russian spies more effective than army, say experts​

''Russia's security and intelligence services have achieved greater success in Ukraine than its army, says a leading UK defence think tank.

Russian spy agencies began preparing for the invasion of Ukraine as far back as June 2021, says a report by the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi).

The Federal Security Service (FSB) has quickly dominated populations in occupied areas of Ukraine, Rusi adds.

The report was compiled using sources including captured documents, it says.

Ukrainian intelligence officials, intercepted communications and on-the-ground research also contributed.

Researchers say the FSB has been able to download government computer hard drives to identify pro-Kyiv individuals that its agents want to arrest and interrogate.

Electronic warfare units have been deployed to cut off occupied parts of Ukraine from the outside world to help them enforce control, Rusi says.

According to the think tank, the head of Russian foreign intelligence, the SVR, told President Vladimir Putin they needed more time to prepare and asked for the invasion to be delayed. His request was denied.''

Ukrainian soldiers have been honing their skills to shoot down Iranian-made drones with machine guns. Russian forces have been using the drones to launch attacks across Ukraine. The Ukrainian military says it is having success gunning down the drones, even as Russia continues to change tactics.

Russia assumes UN Security Council presidency despite Ukrainian anger​

Ukraine's foreign minister said Russia leading the UN Security Council is "the worst joke ever".

Each of the council's 15 members takes up the presidency for a month, on a rotating pattern.
The last time Russia had the presidency, February 2022, it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It means the Security Council is being led by a country whose president is subject to an international arrest warrant for alleged war crimes.

The International Criminal Court - which is not a UN institution - issued the warrant for Vladimir Putin last month.

Despite Ukraine's complaints, the United States said it could not block Russia - a permanent council member - from assuming the presidency.

'Russian military blogger' is killed in St Petersburg café bombing

Video shows the moment pro-Putin war propagandist Vladlen Tatarsky was handed a statuette concealing a hidden bomb just minutes before it blew him to bits at a St Petersburg cafe.

A Russian war propagandist who called for the destruction of Ukraine was killed in a bomb attack in St Petersburg.

Video shows the moment pro-Putin cheerleader Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, was handed a statuette of himself by an unnamed woman that was believed to have contained the explosive just minutes before he was blown to bits at the political event in the cafe.

Around 100 people were at the event, with at least 25 injured by the blast and four in a critical condition.

No group came forward to claim responsibility for the death, which could be the second political assassination of a pro-Putin Russian on Russian soil since the war started. Analysts in the country speculated that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian secret service.
