IMO the ransom amount of $118,000 was chosen for the very reason that it was the amount of John's bonus. I think in the original cover up plan this was done to implicate someone at Access Graphics as the kidnapper. I think the murder was committed by a group of pedophiles and the kidnap scenario to cover this up was FW's idea. I think he forced Patsy to write the note and gave her the instructions as to what to write at the beginning of the note including what to put as the ransom amount. She then was left to finish it and that is where the resentment and anger towards John began to show up.JerseyGirl said:But realistically speaking, Patsy and John Ramsey are (and were) intelligent people. Why on Earth would either one of them put the exact amount in a ransom note if they wanted to throw off police? That would make no sense at all. It would be more likely that someone would do that in order to frame the parents, IMO. Additionally, while there are startling similarities between the ransom note and Patsy's writing, you can see that the writing is very shaky. Is that because of adrenalin, fear, or was someone trying to copy Patsy's writing in an additional attempt to frame her, (someone that likes to play with different writing styles, for instance - someone whose writing often varies within single words)?
I notice about the ransom note that the person seems resentful towards JR. It could be a facade, it could be just anger in general, but I think that if an intruder did this, they enjoyed doing it in terms of inflicting pain on JR and belittling him and controlling him. For example, what's with the line about the two guys that are watching over JB not being too fond of him? Just plain weird. In any case, if you hate someone AND you're a pedophile AND you're completely sick in the head, what better way to get back at someone than to use their child for your own purposes and then set it up to look like the parents did it?
Anyway, FWIW, as a believer in the Ramseys innocence, I can indeed see distinct similarities between her writing and the ransom note. But I can't see her writing a practice note and then leaving it to be found, using her own notepad, using her own writing, and asking for the exact amount of her husband's bonus as the ransom. That would be idiotic.
Was the bonus $118,000, btw? Someone said last night that the bonus was AROUND that amount. I don't recall.
Oh my God - incredible!!! Wow! This is a must-read for anyone discussing the ransom note. I almost fell out of my chair. No wonder that Chet Ubowski and others concluded that Patsy wrote the note.SuperDave said:
Well, I didn't know about the movie references either:tumble said:Sorry, I don't know of any others.
An interesting thing about the L&L kidnapping is that they called the day after EVEN THOUGH Bobby Franks body had already been found.
One might wonder, why hide the body in the winecellar if the kidnapper didn't even had any hopes that it would not be discovered and atleast make a try for the money?
OMG! That makes a lot more sense than the musings in JMK's yearbook which wouldn't follow along with the anti-John Ramsey sentiment of the note, especially the last page.Show Me said:-----------------------------------------
John Ramsey speaking: "I also recognized that larger, better-financed companies were growing around us. Even though we were doing fine, I was afraid that unless we expanded, our company would soon be Swallowed By The Competition."

No problem, and I noticed the same thing. No mention of closing the door. I've thought about this, and I end up thinking that if the garage door was open when people started arriving that someone would have noticed and asked about it.Beyond Belief said:Thanking you again for the timeline.
Big point stuck out:
Garage door was opened with clicker before arriving at the house.
