The search for Brittanee Drexel is picking up again in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The renewed effort is giving her family hope.
"Today is just like the very first day when I got that call," said Chad Drexel. It was the call that broke Chad Drexel's heart. His then 17-year-old daughter Brittanee vanished while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.
Nearly six months after her disappearance the search for Brittanee is picking up again. "The areas that they want to search are areas that were searched, but not real in depth because of the heat at the time," said Drexel.
FBI agents, local police and members of the Cue Center for Missing Persons will take part in this weekend's expansive search around the Myrtle Beach area. "We are definitely going to be using some water resources. We will have boats with sonar and dogs working the waters and the marsh areas. We just feel like that's important to go over again," said Monica Caison with the Cue Center.
"When we hear good news like this that we are going to put more of a search on it's a God send," said Drexel. There have been moments of hope, one recently that was crushing. "I had a heartbreaking event Saturday night where my cell phone rang and it said Brittanee calling. My heart dropped," said Drexel. Turns out Brittanee's cell phone company had given her number to a new customer who called Chad after learning he was given the number. Despite the heartbreak Chad says he remains hopeful.
"Keep looking, keep searching and that's what I'm doing. I'm being hopeful. I want to think the best for my kids, her sister, her brother. That's what I want to do," said Drexel.
Last week marked Brittanee's 18th birthday. The family celebrated with ice cream cake, Brittanee's favorite.
