GUILTY SC - Devon Epps, 7, murdered, Greenville, 12 Aug 2007

Let's hope the suspecious fire in Devon's room is reinvestigated.
His mother is the lowest of the low... a mother who killed her own son. :(

I agree, except the Mother part....
In all honesty, I think we should no longer refer to her as his mother. I think it's painfully clear that she was strictly an EGG DONOR.

This post on the Greenville news site is fantastic for those of us who are eager for justice for this poor little kid:

ook, imho life without parole is PERFECT for her.

She killed Devon so she could primp and party and booze and spend her money on herself.

She deserves to live in a cramped cage with someone she hopes doesn't beat the crap out of her in the general population of prisoners where she will occupy the lowest ring of hell, a child killer.

She will see her friends go their merry way, and watch the wrinkles come, and no more internet downloads of rap or "real goons" to flirt with on a drunken dance floor for the next 40 or 50 years until she rots, and look back and compare that everyday day with motherhood, and what she could have done differently and know its her own damn fault!

Thank you to all who posted that ARS was arrested! I'm glad they finally arrested her. Her story just didn't wash.

I live about 20 miles from here and I was watching T.V. when they had the "Breaking News", Devon's grandfather was on, and he said he knew all along it was Amanda that murdered Devon, he also said the sketch that Amanda had LE draw up describing the "carjacker" looked like Devon's father, (like what he would look like when he was older).
They also said the DA would probally ask for the death penalty.
She deserves what she did to poor Devon, his life must have been He** living with her.
R.I.P. Devon

"Investigators have concluded that Amanda Smith is responsible for the death of her son," Loftis said during a news conference in Greenville. "We are confident that we have the suspect in jail now."

It was not immediately clear if Smith had an attorney. A woman who answered the phone at the jail did not know if she had an attorney.

Loftis said during the investigation that Smith always answered questions from police and continued providing tips, though he would not elaborate. Loftis also would not say if she changed her story.

"We had our doubts and suspicious, but we have to follow the tips," Loftis said."

The wheels of Justice are now moving for Devon.
Finally she is arrested.

I am relieved that I am not living in the stress of being around people like her and others who commited such heinous crimes.

Respectfully,

Bakerprune,
I agree. ;)

And Bakerprune and philamena, I agree with you both!

She is a beast! :furious: That 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 is a disgrace to all females everywhere!

I'll never understand the mentality of someone who would do such an unspeakable act to anyone, much less to her flesh and blood?
We must face the fact... it is true there are some on this earth that are just pure evil, and that's all that can be said.

That poor little boy, there isreally no telling what else was done to him that we will never know.

I'm with you, dark_shadows! Thank the Good Lord for the wonderful parents I was so blessed with and the happy childhood they gave me and my siblings. I in turn have been blessed with a wonderful husband and wonderful children. They are all the loves of my life.

You know it's a sad fact that my 2 cats and my 1 dog have better lifes and more love than so many precious little children alive on this earth.
God bless all of our families and our friends.

And God hold and keep little Devon.Devon, you are safe now, sweetheart.:blowkiss:

To my dearest Sweetmop,:blowkiss:
I had to be around ones like her for 14 years and be composed. Very hard thing to do, but I had to and I was very composed.
Yes Devon is safe now.
All of my Love and Respect to you,

i took my kids to see B movie then out to McDonald's tonight. we came home and i gave them a bath, tucked them in, did their laundry, cleaned their lunch boxes and did the prep work for the morning. laid out their clothes and started the lunches. i just got a break and logged in to find this. it took me 10 minutes to stop crying. i know i have checked up on this story often but did not realize just how deep i felt about it. many of us have kids and to know how much they mean to us and compare it with what this woman did brings up a mixture of emotions somewhere between sorrow and hate. how many people in her life would have stepped up and took this child if she could no longer deal with him? how do you look at the child you gave birth to and watched grow then watched die and make up a lie to cover? i wont read any other threads tonight. i am going to crawl in bed next to my son and thank god he is safe.

Oh dear dark_shadows, I am so sorry for the 14 years that you went through. Your composure was given you by God. I am sure you already know that though. It hurts me to hear of this and I am so sorry for such awful years you had to endure.
No one should have to endure such as that! I pray that you really are ok today and that you now have a life and a peace that you so deserve.

I am so sorry Dear One. I know that you are a strong person, as that certainly shows through all of your posts!

God bless you greatly always, dark_shadows.
:blowkiss:
I care.

Good news indeed! I think the Greenville County Sheriff's Office has done a very thorough job and they have an airtight case. It will be interesting to see what the evidence yields in terms of motive. I just don't understand WHY. She had lots of other relatives to leave him with because she was already out partying all of the time. I bet there was someone she was romantically interested in, who did not want Devon, and ARS thought if "the problem" was removed, she would have a chance with whoever the looser was. You would think people would learn from stories like Susan Smith's that stupidity never wins!

I want to share this poem with all of you. :blowkiss:

A Prayer For the Children

We pray for children who sneak Popsicles before supper,
Who erase holes in math workbooks,
Who can never find their shoes.

And we pray for those who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire,
Who can't bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers,
Who never "counted potatoes",
Who are born in places we wouldn't be caught dead in,
Who never saw a circus,
Who live in an x-rated world.

We pray for children who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions,
Who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch money.

And we pray for those who never get dessert,
Who have no security blanket to drag behind them,
Who watch their parents watch them die,
Who can't find any bread to steal,
Who don't have any rooms to clean up,
Whose pictures aren't on anyone's dresser,
Whose monsters are real.

We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday,
Who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick at their food,
Who like ghost stories,
Who shove their dirty clothes under the bed and never rinse out the tub,
Who get visits from the tooth fairy,
Who don't like to be kissed in front of their friends,
Who squirm in church or temple and scream into the phone.
Whose tears we sometimes laugh at,
And whose smiles can make us cry.

And we pray for those whose nightmares come in the daytime,
Who will eat anthing,
Who have never seen a dentist,
Who aren't spoiled by anyone,
Who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep,
Who live and move, but have no being.

We pray for children who want to be carried,
And for those who must be.
For those we never give up on,
And for those who never get a second chance.

For those we smother,
And for those who will grab the hand of anyone kind enough to offer it.

sherri79, what you wrote is how I feel right now as I read "it" has been arrested for taking the life of her precious child. I'm thankful that LE did not give up on this case.

More updates: A poster at Greenville forum saw the latest local news and stated "Bob Arail said something to the effect that this investigation was modern technology and forensics at its' best."

EDITED TO ADD: "they did say on the news that she acted alone"
AND.... "she didn't get bond!"

http://www.rapideyereality.com/

"Loftis said Smith was "cool and calm" upon her arrest. He said that there was no one piece of evidence that cracked the case, but rather a lot of small "bits and pieces" that led them to the arrest

judge signed the murder warrant against Smith this morning and she was arrested this afternoon. Video showed an emotionless Smith being led into the Law Enforcement Center judicial chambers where she was made aware of the charges against her and told she will be held without bond in the Greenville County Detention Center.

Now the next phase of the wait begins.

This portion of the rapideyereality article explains:
http://www.rapideyereality.com/

After so many weeks of waiting, there is now a renewed public urgency for the next step. It will not be fast. If people had a hard time waiting two months for the arrest, waiting for ultimate justice will be a lot more tough. If history is any indication, Smith will remain in the Greenville County Detention Center on no bond until such time that her attorney can get her a bond hearing. That process usually takes a week to a month. In many cases these days, the defendant is not physically present for the hearing. It happens via video conferencing. As to whether she will get bond, it's impossible to say. Most hard core murderers are held without bond until trial. However, every judge is required to consider a reasonable bond. It will be up to the judge to decide how much of a flight risk and danger to the community Smith might be. If bond is forthcoming, it will be very, very high.

After that, many more weeks, if not months, will pass before a preliminary hearing. That will be the public's first opportunity to hear the prosecution's case. Usually, Ariail puts the lead investigator on the stand and walks him through the case. Then we will learn at least some of the evidence Ariail plans to use to put Smith away.

Then, the long wait happens. Most big murder cases in this county take at least a year before they go to trial. The timeline will largely be affected by whether Ariail decides to seek the death penalty in the case. One of the many aggravating factors in South Carolina that allow for a death penalty prosecution is the murder of a child under the age of eleven. Ariail has sought the death penalty is most of the high-profile murders in his circuit. He has been successful in almost all of those prosecutions. At the same time, Ariail is a prosecutor that absolutely despises losing and is very reluctant to take a case before a jury if he thinks there is a chance he won't win. "

I'm just glad she's behind bars no longer partying. I like what someone wrote above about life without parole for her because it would just kill her everyday! She'll be trying to make that nasty rotted-fruit homemade alcohol drink and hopefully the others will hate her for killing a little boy. That's hell for someone like her.
