I'm not even going to judge the judge for his use of the N-word. Though it's a pretty good indication of what to expect. I'm going to judge him for how he has handled this case so far, which is not looking real good. From what I have seen he seems to have far more empathy for the white family members of the perpetrator, then he does for the black victims and their families. These people can't hide their racism, even when they try.

I don't see it that way at all- he was very clear on the victims and respectful of their famlies he just wanted to point out the Roof family did not commit these murders and he did so using the platform he had with national media in attendance to head off any retribution.
His only part in this case was setting the bail for the gun charge- his job is done.

That's the ' meds look'. If he's taking something to stop him from wanting meth, he's probably heavily sedated. Did anyone find out if he was prescribed the 'suboxone* sp
?" or if he bought it on the street? TIA
Maybe but Jodi Arias has the same look. Looks evil to me.

this is known as the Folly Boat; a boat that washed ashore during Hurricane Hugo and never claimed. People have been painting messages and pictures on it for years. This week, it has a special message.

A Bow to Charleston

A Northerner bows, deeply, to the South:

I have never seen anything like what I saw on television this afternoon. Did you hear the statements made at the bond hearing of the alleged Charleston, S.C., shooter?

Nine beautiful people slaughtered Wednesday night during Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and their relatives were invited to make a statement today in court. Did you hear what they said?

They spoke of mercy. They offered forgiveness. They invited the suspect, who was linked in by video from jail, to please look for God.

There was no rage, no accusation—just broken hearts undefended and presented for the world to see. They sobbed as they spoke.

On November 6, 2003, respondent presided over a bond reduction hearing. Respondent represents he knew the defendant, the defendant’s father, and the defendant’s grandfather.

Respondent represents that when the defendant, an African-American, appeared in court for the bond hearing, respondent recalled a statement made to him by a veteran African American sheriff’s deputy that “there are four kinds of people in this world - black people, white people, red necks, and n_____.” Respondent alleges he repeated this statement to the defendant in an ill-considered effort to encourage him to recognize and change the path he had chosen in life.

I guess it is a matter of perception. What I see him as saying is that there are good white people and bad white people, and there are good black people and bad black people and you make the choice of which you want to be. I agree with what he said.

And yes I understand there may be objections to the wording. Just as some object strongly to the word that cannot be repeated, I actually object to his use use of the term "redneck". (See it can be typed out.) Some people see redneck as a bad thing, but it is also a culture. Rural, proud, determined. But I do understand the sentiment he is trying to get across and I can agree with it.

In his alleged manifesto, Roof mentions the Council of Conservative Citizens.

I remember people here at WS using (or trying to use) CCC as a source for justifying the killing in the Trayvon Martin case.

They are on the Southern Poverty Law Center list.

Council of Conservative Citizens

Founded: 1985
Location: St. Louis, MO
Profiled Leadership: Gordon Baum
Ideology: White Nationalist

The Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) is the modern reincarnation of the old White Citizens Councils, which were formed in the 1950s and 1960s to battle school desegregation in the South. Among other things, its Statement of Principles says that it “oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind.” Created in 1985 from the mailing lists of its predecessor organization, the CCC, which initially tried to project a "mainstream" image, has evolved into a crudely white supremacist group whose website has run pictures comparing the late pop singer Michael Jackson to an ape and referred to black people as "a retrograde species of humanity." The group's newspaper, Citizens Informer, regularly publishes articles condemning "race mixing," decrying the evils of illegal immigration, and lamenting the decline of white, European civilization. Gordon Baum, the group’s founder, died in March of 2015.

Thank you for sharing this. I was wondering if anyone had painted it, in reaction. :)

If there wasn't a racial message there, why didn't he just say 'there are good and bad people, and you make the choice?'.

Jews are an enigma, Hispanics and Asians are okay. Black people and Nazis are not. White Europe is under attack and so is America and South Africa is a mess, and Dylan Roof is going to save the world because he's the only one who has been thinking and is willing to do anything and he has all the answers because he lives among black people in S. Carolina....And he's been reading stuff that explains it all to him.

He signs off apologizing for any typos as he's in a hurry. :(

For the same reason that people say there's a difference between rednecks, good ol' boys, and WHITE trash. They don't just say "trash;" they say "white trash." I'm not saying I agree with the use of the N-word. It makes me cringe to hear someone use it. Even reading the manifesto, I shuddered every time the voice in my head came across it. It's just that in certain areas there is a noticeable racial divide, and believe me when I tell you, it's not one-sided bigotry. The racial awareness he spoke of in his manifesto is far more real in certain pockets of the South than others, but it's there, regardless of how much people try to pretend it isn't.

I disagree. Whites are being painted with a rather broad racist brush in my readings. I can't count the number of times I've read how racist I am since I'm from SC and this massacre occurred in SC.

I am horrified by what DR did. I cannot even think of enough bad terms to discribe it. But I have to admit that it did cross my mind soon after I heard it, I thought oh great one more thing that will be held against me.

Sojust to make it clear. I am white. I had nothing to do with the planning or implementation of the murders that DR committed. Had I been aware in advance I would have called authorities. DR does not speak for me!

Why did he use the term redneck? Are all rural people bad?
