I asked Solicitor Duffie Stone if his recusal means that SLED has narrowed in on a suspect or suspects in the June 7 double homicide.

He declined to answer.

The biggest question remaining: What "events" happened on Aug. 11?

Oooh, the plot thickens...

His comment about “today’s SLED investigation” stands out to me. I’m just watching for updates now.

I am coming up with one working theory that explains things for me.

-There is a reason obstruction of justice is being investigated with regard to the boat crash.

-It’s possible there were some people involved that, when working together, could successfully blame someone who wasn’t driving.

-What if, when PM told his father/grandfather who was driving, they didn’t believe him?

-Where some may find themselves at risk of it coming out that evidence was manipulated, etc., is if they set out to frame someone for driving who, unbeknownst to them, was actually driving.

-Then once things progressed and they realized their grave error, the one way to make the obstruction “go away” was for the one they set out to protect to be arrested. After all, how could they have obstructed justice when it clearly wasn’t successful?

-But the obstruction issue didn’t go away like they had hoped. And the trial was going to raise a lot of questions.

When I view things through this lense, everything starts to make sense.

All my opinion, MOO

I don’t know if they were actually going to frame Cook so much as use him to hang the cloud of doubt, which is all they need to do. He “could have” been driving, right?
These statements by the others leaves that doubt also, with “I’m not totally sure” or “I don’t exactly remember”.
I still think these murders are connected to that incident.

“Considering the events of today in SLED’s investigation ... I am asking that you assume all prosecutorial functions in this matter effective immediately,” the letter said. “By copy of this letter I am informing [SLED] Chief Mark Keel of my decision to recuse myself from prosecuting these cases."

The solicitor’s letter raises questions about what events Stone is referring to, whether SLED, the agency in charge of the investigation, has finally focused on a suspect or suspects in the double homicide and, if so, how that suspect is a conflict for Stone.

SC solicitor ‘conflicts out’ of Murdaugh investigation. Does that mean there’s a suspect?

Wow! There's a huge elephant in the room now.

According to the Post and Courier, Stone told S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson‘s office on August 11 that he is recusing himself in the high-profile investigation. In the email, he cited “events of today’s SLED investigation,” but he did not elaborate on his exact reason for stepping away and asking Wilson’s office to handle prosecution in the case.

- - - EDITED - - - to add:
What are “events of today’s SLED investigation" and Stone's reason?

Just before Aug. 11 is when recordings began coming out, and the facts that confirm missteps in how the boating accident was investigated and written up became public, on top of confirmations through the survivors' and medical staff's depositions describing how dad and grandpa conducted themselves in ER.

So my opinion is that Stone on Aug. 11 saw how this is coming together -- it's now public that SLED's investigation includes all the lapses and missteps by people and departments/organizations with whom Stone is intertwined.

Sorry if I am dense, but I am having a difficult time with your syntax. Would you mind explaining your theory in different words? Or would someone else mind explaining?

In Googling, "SLED Aug 12 status on Murdaugh case," I found that all SLED's rumor squelching statements about the alleged buried cars started then (and of course, the social media frenzy that prompted denying truth to rumors came just hours before).

Related?

Those recordings and then the CC deposition in which he'd made mention of the SS case and the Murdaughs. Can't forget it was SLED that said the SS case was reopened because of things uncovered in the Murdaugh murders investigations. Maybe that stuff fleshed out more and to a point of focus that is a conflict for Solicitor Stone?

Well now that's interesting.

Any movement in this case is a positive in my mind, especially Stone recusing himself.

I feel something is about to go down....at least I hope.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but wouldn’t they be able to tell by AM’s phone pings where he was at the time of the murder?

again, apologies bc I’m trying to catch up - but - no cameras at the Moselle property?

No cameras Anywhere along the road bw the property and where the wife’s phone was found?

MOD REMINDER

FitsNews is NOT an approved MSM source on Websleuths.
Please do not bring info from that source here for discussion.

There has been no info confirming whether or not there was security nor if anything was captured via surveillance.

Agree. I feel like there is something brewing underneath all this too.

>>> In another case I recently delved into on WS, I learned a lot about cell phones as evidence and also the data they can get from modern cars and trucks. I have an old car w/o GPS or those fancy setups on the dash so I assumed a lot of people following this case already knew the amount of information available to LE from our personal technology and haven't brought it up.

To answer your question specifically, yes, I think LE should be able to learn where AM was (and also MM and PM) at different times the night of the murder -- unless -- they had their phones in airplane mode.

Related to cars and trucks -- and this gave me some hope for this case -- apparently modern electronics can tell LE not only GPS kind of history but also which doors were opened (or tailgate), at what time. I think this detail is interesting because it hints at possibly the number of people who used the vehicle on a certain excursion, if items were loaded or unloaded from the cargo area, etc.

If I am wrong about his, please someone correct me.

I don't know how new a vehicle would have to be have these features, but my assumption is the Ms probably had late model passenger vehicles like the SUV. Can't say the same for trucks because a good pickup can last years. I used to have a 1989 F-150 that my sister is still driving.

I thought I read somewhere the cameras on the property -- at least around the storage buildings and kennels -- had been disabled the night of the murder but have nothing to confirm that.

JMO on all.

Airplane mode does little to nothing in this situation. That information is there
