Not much on this yet but I got it on yahoo and foxcarolina.com. This mother and son were found near a dog kennel on their property in Colleton County SC. Their family has a long history of connections to the legal system in the Lowcountry and the son, who was murdered, was currently facing charges in a boating accident causing death.

So-all three things related? Or two of them? I already hit the NYT paywall and it’s only the 6th of the month.

Well, as we know, money is a big reason for violent crime and white collar crime. JMO.

How did he have access to the Firm's money?

Quotes moved over to new thread from NYT

"was pushed out of his powerful law firm over claims that he had misused funds the day before he called 911"

"released from the hospital on Monday after his injury was determined to be not life-threatening and that he had immediately met with investigators from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, which is investigating the double-killing and the shooting of Mr. Murdaugh."

"Leaders of the Hampton, S.C., firm said they had discovered that Mr. Murdaugh had misappropriated money from the law office and that he had resigned on Friday."

"In a statement to The New York Times, the firm said that it had hired a forensic accounting firm to investigate the suspected misappropriation of funds and that it had also notified the police and the South Carolina Bar."

"and that there was a slice in one of Mr. Murdaugh’s tires,"

"said the amount was in the millions."

I think the theft of the money was the impetus for the rest of it.

Most funds are held in a Trust account. There is a lot more to this story. IMO

I wonder if there were life insurance policies on the lives of PM and MM.

I wonder if since AM is in rehab maybe LE won't be able to talk to him . Also, very interesting that nytimes is getting the story now.

There is some attorney in CA with a reality show wife who is in hot water over something like this, but no murder (that I know of). Can't recall the name.

That's what I am wondering and all of the property was in MM's name. He had nothing to leverage without her knowing and having to sign off.

ADMIN NOTE:

Alex Murdaugh's wife and son were murdered and 3 days later his father died.

If members can't remain victim friendly and give the benefit of the doubt to a person who has experienced this much grief in such a short period of time, we don't know how else we can explain our "victim friendly" policy that Websleuths was founded on, and which exists to this day.

It's fine to discuss, and question details and known facts released in MSM or by LE to some degree, but it really is possible to do so without snark, insinuations, or accusations.

If your post casts blame on Alex Murdaugh or insinuates that he is responsible for the death of his wife and son, your post will be removed and you will be timed out for 1 week minimum.

We truly don't like resorting to this but when it starts to feel that we are talking to the walls, we have no other options.

Zero tolerance, no more warnings.

Griffin said that on Saturday, members of the Murdaugh law firm had gone to a rural Hampton County road where Alex Murdaugh had reported being shot. At that scene, Murdaugh law firm members talked to State Law Enforcement Division agents and told them about the missing money at their law firm, Griffin said.

Griffin did not specify what type of drug Alex Murdaugh had problems with.

But two legal sources familiar with the matter said it was oxycodone.

If the allegation is true, when did he steal the money and where is the money now? If he's convicted of stealing, he would almost certainly be disbarred. JMO.

I really am worried about their son, BM. I hope he's getting the support he's going to need. This is truly a family greek tragedy.

<sbm> There is a lot more to this story. IMO

That's the running theme of this whole convoluted saga.

I wonder when the law firm discovered the money was missing--maybe I missed that in one of the articles. If I was SLED, I'd be really peeved with them if they'd known for some time and hadn't alerted them.
