Perhaps police did not want the suspect to know that Alex could identify him. Did Alex identify him, or did other evidence identify the suspect?

Found an obit for Thomas Smith, Sr., son of late John and Emaline Murdaugh Smith and brother of Curtis Edward Smith. Sounds like Curtis is a family member to Alex!
