Yes, but they don't have to call any of them.
DH made a comment this morning about the timing of AG resting because he is flying in expert witnesses at great expense and doesn't want to have them here over the weekend or for any time they aren't needed. He's said this a couple times over the last weeks. Defense also indicated they were going to need five days for their case. Only what I remember from watching livestream everyday. Just sounds like they can't afford to spend money unnecessarily.

I know, but that doesn't mean it has to happen. The state can rest and then the defense can rest.

This is my understanding: There are two kinds of rebuttals -- a rebuttal case and a a rebuttal argument. Usually, if the Defense puts on an affirmative defense case, the State has the chance to call their own witnesses to rebut that evidence. In some states the State gets a rebuttal closing argument --meaning the state closes, the defense closes, then the state can rebut the points made by the defense. In both situations the rebuttal is limited to what the defense presented/argued.

The defense is usually fluid -- will assess where things lie and make a decision about whether to put on witnesses. JMO.

It was a shoe print expert flying in. Obviously expensive so if the state was running long, could the witness testify Friday vs. coming back a different day (which I recall being Tuesday with the holiday). State said they'd be willing to accommodate that.

If I recall correctly

Court TV tonight said Dave Owens mother passed away last night. Then to testify today he had to be distraught.
I agree, and it was very unfortunate that they couldn’t have delayed his testimony since it was a critical part of the case. As I mentioned earlier on this thread, his confidence seemed to be significantly reduced compared to his interviews with AM, and even though he’s a law enforcement officer, he’s still human. We will never really know how his tragic day yesterday affected his appearance on the stand today.

I could never have done what he did today. My heart aches for him. How he was able to testify today blows my mind. I’d be sedated, curled up in a ball and crying. I just want to hug him.

I will say that I do like the prosecutor. Although the case is weak in my opinion, I think he has gotten the most out of it and is a really good lawyer. He comes across as very likeable. At least to me that is.

I also have a favorable view of the defense lawyers. They are really trying to do a lot with a huge amount of turmoil and other things going against them that their client has gotten into.

Personally, I think that he probably is guilty. With that said, I do not believe it has been proven to this point beyond a doubt and I can raise many doubts regarding this case in each instance. So I'd vote not guilty if I were a juror.

I hate that innocent people were killed and I hope that all involved can find peace one day. But this has definitely been an intriguing and interesting case to follow everyday. All respect to the victims of course.

First let me say I respect your opinion.
I was just wondering though since you said you think he is probably guilty, what is it that makes you think he is guilty, why does that not quite reach the point where you could find him guilty as a juror, and what evidence or type of evidence would you need to find him guilty? Is it the scattered way things have been presented? That’s been driving me crazy so I was wondering if that was one of the issues.

Their own accommodations are extravagant imo (they were posted up thread).

Second LE interview -- AM says Maggie left and went to the kneels and "I'm assuming Paul went to the kennels because of what happened". The prosecutor can definitely ram this home in a good closing. JMO.

At 13:25.

While he was napping ??
Hmmmm

Just catching up here...the forensic autopsy lady was pretty descriptive with the gunshot wounds, IMO

While I have followed along since beginning and knew they had been shot, I was still a bit horrified listening to the details.

AM says he was napping, then went to see his mom

Video and 7-8 other witnesses place his VOICE and him at the scene of the murders.

His atty is a bumbling fool and definitely tries to confuse the witness on the stand and more than likely is confusing the jury. as is his MO

Hoping the jury gets all this mumble jumble straight.
I'm still catching up too but feel the same about what you've said.

"Hoping the jury gets all this mumble jumble straight" gave me flashbacks to the OJ case.

The defense in that case recognized that the jurors were suffering from overload and then turned the table to put the prosecution witness on the defensive. Then they went into their defense and the rest is history.

I hope the prosecution does NOT call Cousin Eddy. They don't need to give the defense any more fodder for confusion. Because I do think the defense position will be to present utter confusion so the jury wont/can't convict.

I sure hope the prosecution is ready to stay on top of the defense from getting away with that. Time will tell.

JMO

I missed the afternoon I had a Doctor appointment in the next town this afternoon. I am trying to catch up but not sure it will be done tonight.

Someone is forking out money. $20000 a week for the team.

Personally, I think there was plenty of motive. That day, Alex found out that his entire world was about to crumble around his feet because his financial crimes were about to become known to his law partners, his family, and the world. His son's crime brought dishonor to the family and was going to cost millions to defend. A civil suit would take any money that remained. He was robbing Peter to pay Paul. He was running through hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars in a few months trying to service all his debts. He was addicted to opiods. Tinsley (the Beach family lawyer) credibly told him that he was going to have to turn over the beach house and Moselle and that Alex could go on a payment plan to pay off the rest over time but that any settlement that the Beach family would agree to would be substantially more than the value of those two properties. There may be other things that we don't even know about (personally, I think he may have been blackmailed). The house of cards he had built over two decades was about to come crashing down.

But the fact that his life was in freefall aside, people don't need reasons that make sense to us to kill. Bryan Kohberger seems to have killed four students for no good reason, Susan Smith (the last huge case in SC) killed her kids for no reason, Brian Laundrie killed Gabby Petito for no reason. I don't know why Alex Murdaugh needs a better reason than countless other killers

The hose was being used in the video when Paul was video taping Cash. Then his phone went dead within a couple minutes. He was killed then.
I get what the video suggests, but I'm not sure what the hose suggests? The video puts AM at the scene of the crime, but not the hose, unless I'm missing something.

It was the defense that showed on the video just prior to the murder that the hose was on the ground. I'm assuming the hose was still on the ground when detectives arrived.

Compared to what? Alex's 200+ lies??

right.

I get the issues with the prosecution case but at the end of the day, where is the reasonable doubt here?

Is there are reasonable possibility someone other than AM did the shootings?

Clearly not IMO. He was there, just before both victims go digitally silent. He lied about that because he is the killer.

I also think AM used the hose to wash himself and the clothing he was wearing off before he went back to the house to change. He doesn't want to get blood in the traps of the sinks or showers just in case LE collected samples. I'm sure he wouldn't have coiled the hose and hung it properly and I doubt he ever would. He had employees to do that. Since the keeper of the dogs had already been there, the hose should have been meticulously hung as the dog keeper reported that he was compulsive about the hose as AM had corrected him about it in the past. The blood wouldn't have to be explained at the kennels. I also doubt an 'outside' killer would rinse themselves off at the kennels or run up to the house to get weapons. They would have arrived armed and be more interested in getting out of there after the murders. So I found the use of the hose and it's unkempt state significant.
