Good thinking.
I think he wanted Maggie gone as she knew finances were compromised.
Yes I tend to think the same. And also wonder if there was a difference of opinion between her and the defendant on how the boat case should be addressed or settled? If I recall correctly, the boat accident trial was originally set to begin at a time shortly after the double murders. MOO

Yes, I think she said to someone to just settle it so it would go away. Little did she know their finances were in such a mess that it would not be esay to do that.

If someone had told me 20 years ago that I would spend New Years Eve with a Lifetime movie I would have laughed but here we are. Those of us with not much happening in life can look forward to both parts of the AM movie starting at 8. Be careful not to overdo the holiday.

LOL,me too!! Sometimes that's all that is required these days. Is the AM movie you are referring to a rerun or is it new?? to Lifetime, if so I missed it. Happy New Year to all! Wondering what will happen this year in the world of sleuthing

An article from The State speculating how Becky Hill's perjury and allegations of ethics violations may play into the upcoming jury tampering hearing...

The gist of the article is that the two matters are completely separate. However, Hill's credibility may be at issue if she takes the stand, as expected. Also, Hill's lawyer may instruct her to take the Fifth, which in turn could cause the court to draw an adverse inference.

There's also some detail about the plagiarism which I hadn't read before. Apparently, the BBC reporter sent BH the article in error. She had meant to send it to her editor, also named Rebecca, and had an auto-fill fail. The reporter asked BH to delete the mail, but instead BH forwarded it to her personal email and also forwarded it to the publisher of another newspaper.

It was the complete rerun of the 2 part Life movie. They replayed the entire showing at midnight but I knocked out.

Alex Murdaugh's pursuit of a new murder trial is set for an evidentiary hearing next month

Murdaugh's lawyers want another trial in the killings of the former lawyer's wife and younger son, citing allegations that the court clerk improperly influenced the jury. The defense will get to put forth evidence at a three-day hearing expected to begin Jan. 29, according to a tentative schedule shared by a media liaison for former South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal.

Jurors, the clerk and even the trial judge might have to testify under oath.

Of course Murdaugh and his lawyers want a new trial for whatever good it will be. The evidence doesn't lie and it doesn't change. I sat on this thread until Alex was found guilty. What a shameful mess this SC clerk has made of justice in these brutal murders. How dare her!

Absolutely concur with this! And IMO perhaps the court clerk official should be removed from that office for cause, and have any pension or other monies returned for their actions.
Unfortunately it may be the case that either she can’t be removed from office or if by doing so the Court is basically admitting that her actions were improper?
The resources, monies, time, and work that went into this verdict - to have been potentially rendered null or possible retrial by her actions is reprehensible. MOO

I believe Alex was willing to settle for the maximum coverage of his homeowners insurance, $500K. The plaintiff's lawyers also wanted Mozelle and the Edisto house. As we now know, both were highly leveraged and AM had no way out of this mess. At the time of the murders, the case was nearing a point where AM would have to reveal his financial situation in full.

Although some claimants were able to secure some payments from AM, much of that was only possible because banks wrote of some of their claims against the real estate.

RH was a court reporter for 12 years and not sure if this was as a State/County employee or an independent contractor. However, the Colleton County Clerk was an elected position.

I am absolutely stunned by the most recent developments FitsNews is reporting about BH, her correspondence, and her actions. Such poor judgment. What a nightmare and with far-reaching implications. OMO.

Absolutely. And from my perspective it seems to go far beyond poor judgement. As I understand, to have apparently forwarded an email message and details - received in error - that one was asked to delete? And then to have used experts of that preliminary document for other purposes? Wow. Appalling conduct IMO. MOO
