GUILTY SC - Shooting reported at Townville Elementary, Jacob Hall, 6, killed, Sept 2016

  • #101
You didn't say that. But someone else did, and I thought you were posting those links in support of his statements.

No. I made a comment about mental health care and education and also speculated it might have something to do with the addiction issues facing rural America. I also clearly stated I didn't know if the shooter had a drug problem but I think the issue is related to mental health care. And to explain why I speculated he might not have gotten treatment after the hatchet incident.

I didn't say anything about his father who is obviously a victim in this situation.

To address the poverty stricken rural area that's being assumed here, the poverty rate is about 8%, almost half of the us national average. As far as education goes, there is 15.8% who didn't graduate high school, but 48% have a bachelors, associate or trade degree. That means the graduation rate is a little over 84%, higher than the national average as well. So hopefully we can stop discussing those myths unless they are supported by something in MSM.

I see nothing in the above links, that would support the speculation that the deceased victim was an uneducated, violent man that beat his wife regularly and was mean to his son.

I honestly shake my head in disbelief and pure disgust many times how some seem so gleefully willing to hurt others they don't even know. Why even suggest such hurtful things about the victim who's life was taken so viciously. If truth be known his father probably loved him more than many others yet he is already accused of being a violent man based absolutely nothing. This taking up for cold blooded killers and bashing the victims is just plain weird. IMO

I thought this was a victim friendly site? It is so wrong on all levels. Grouping an entire group of people based on where they live and implying that all are the same like clones is not only ignorant it shows extreme biases imo.

Is Florida filled with uneducated/poor people? It is a melting pot with many of which were born in predominantly northern states who come there and making it their permanent home. They are certainly the ones who are dying from overdoses of drugs both illegal and legal prescription more often now even beyond traffic accidents and homicides. It has become the number one cause of accidental death for not only their state but others. What about the drugs in all of the gang invested cities since it is those cities who are seeing an escalation in violent crimes including homicides. Is that not drug related?

I have seen several articles of late where people are overdosing on Heroin but we are to believe that it is only an epidemic if it is in a rural area of the south? Now why would we think that when the majority of states weren't even in the south.

Imo, it is just another hurtful way to put people down who come from rural communities in the south.

If we are so bad then why are people all over the country flocking to live among us????

I think you're misunderstanding my point. I made it clear I was speaking about the shooter:

Actually any one or any combination of the above might have contributed to his actions. Again - I know school and other mass shootings happen in populated areas but his specific situation has some variables that should be examined.

Not every shooter, imo, has the same history that leads to the event.

You may have overlooked the posts I was referring to and the same one that OCBE was referring to. But she posted in reply to some biased and unfair assumption, speculations, made about the deceased father. It was speculated that he was a wife beater, a violent, angry, uneducated man. There is NO EVIDENCE of that at all. When she posted that, you replied with all of your links, seemingly in support of that speculation.

Maybe that is not what you meant when you posted those, but if you scroll up, you will see the places where it got confused.

The wife is a dental hygienist. So she is an educated, professional woman. Her husband, a life long resident of the area, with a large extended family, is a poultry farmer. They own a summer home in Century Florida. They do not sound like uneducated idiots.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/09/29/school-shooting-gunman/91256398/
Late Wednesday afternoon, a woman was escorted to the house on Osborne Road in a black Sheriff’s Office SUV. Her cries carried down to the driveway. Officials kept her out of sight as more family members arrived and left the house in tears.

An ambulance pulled away from the home at dusk. After dark, authorities brought in floodlights to light the scene.

Across the street sat three chicken houses with its doors flung open. A dark green sign hanging from a white post read: “Osborne Poultry Farm.” The farm was deserted; machinery sat in the dirt where two new chicken houses had been planned.

All due respect, bluesneakers said nothing about the father. She spoke only to the mental health issue.

There goes the neighborhood.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... for putting the myths to bed. Maybe we can move on now from the hurtful unfounded stereotyping.

Let's keep this in mind in all discussions, I think it would make for a more beautiful forum <3

IMO shooters don't just pick up a gun one day and go on a shooting spree. There must have been something past or present that started him down this path. What led up to him grabbing a gun that day and heading to the school? Were there any signs or factors along the way where someone could have stepped in and prevented this tragedy?

They happen so often and I have to have hope there's something we can do.

You replied to me.

Let me explain the miscommunication we had.

someone posted this kind of speculation:
RUral, in all liklihood not a highly edcuated setting, Dad might be blue colar, maybe not all that educated himself, and is now tasked to "teach"

Who did he kill , dad? Who was teaching him? Possiblity Dad was a very short tmepred teacher. Obvously earlier hatched speaks volumes - so now we got a conflicted teenager, who has huge issues with his dad, being stuck at home with someone where there is much conflict , and possibly spending a lot of time with a frustrated parent/teacher.

AInt getting a good vibe. DOnt like the word snapped - it rarely is like that - but lets say the pressure cooker went off yesterday.

I still find it very infomrative that in his time of need he called gparent - kinda indicates to me that homelife all around was pretty intnese and conflicted. It also , seems like gma may have had to have been primary caregiver for him for some peroid of time

DV? All kids life he had to protect mom from dad??? Tough stuff, if that is it how it was, for llittle people to have to step into an adult role and protect the very people that are supposed to be keeping the little people safe. Really is confusing for little people.

Hate to say it ; there are all kinds of abuse....................

ANother general profile again, impulse control issues, anger, depression, lomliness, guessing conflicted marrage, ,o, dad financial stressers, kid has no hope for future, receipe again.

If it is accurate that he yelled out "I hate my life"I think that is kinda the perfect summary statement huh............................

Generally, rural folks are not all that fond of that therapy jazz!! "My kid aint no nutjob" " he just needs a good ole ass whipping and he be all steppin back shape"

" Now yeez all get offfa my property before i goes and getzzzz my rifle, dont y'all call my kid a mental whacko again, or I gonna hatchet yo to pieces for my alligators for a big tasty brunch"

Momma: "Thats right u tell them big Booby Jo Henry SMith the 8th"

humm humm specuating again!==================================================================================================

After reading the above biased and stereotyping drivel, OceanBlueeyes posted this:

I am not sure where the stereotypical lumping of all rural area citizens into one box is coming from. The same old same old of they are all not educated and all are poor and isolated. Where in the world did that uninformed opinion come from?

To which YOU replied:

Not uninformed at all - quite the opposite.

OKAY----can you see why we might have thought you were posting in support of the biased speculation about the deceased victim? It was misunderstanding.

Maybe he was being bullied. From his picture, I think it is a possibility. The neighbors said he was 'the nicest kid ever.' I am wondering if he shot his dad because he loved him and didn't want him to live to see what was going to happen next. Shooting up the school, and bringing the hatchet to school, makes me think his problems were stemming from the other students bullying him.

  • #113
Perhaps he was grounded. I remember many a time as a teen thinking I hate my life, my life is over upon being grounded. I feel so awful for the children and teacher, but the mother of him as well, she lost her husband and son essentially. But, between the hatchet, murder and attempted murder, I suspect he will be locked up for a long long time and rightfully so.

Another school shooting. How did a troubled child get access to a lethal weapon, along with sufficient ammunition to kill or wound so many?
There are more victims here than those who were shot. The pictures of the crying faces being evacuated by bright yellow school buses-- that's not what school buses are for. The sobbing children in their parents arms when they were finally reunited. These children are deeply traumatized. Forget learning the 3 R's for the near future. They will need counseling to try to lessen some of the damage, poor little things. And those poor parents who have to worry about sending their children off to school. That includes all parents now. Who knows where it will happen next? The points about this actually being a well-educated, relatively affluent area show that it is not just happening in inner city or poverty ridden areas.
So many victims. So much suffering.

Not sure if this was posted and I just missed it but the statement from the shooters family is really touching:

Pastor James South released the statement on behalf of Tiffney Osborne: "Our entire family is absolutely shocked and saddened by the senseless actions of our son and grandson. We are praying and will continue to do so for the two precious children who were wounded, and for their courageous teacher who was wounded while rescuing the children. We cannot express the devastation we feel at the loss of our beloved Jeff. We are thankful to have friends who have expressed their sympathy and support to Tiffney at the loss of her husband. Please pray for our family that the Lord will help us as we face this unimaginable ordeal."

Post of the day, kareylou....

At my daughter's school, the "Three R's" represent:
Responsible
Respectful

The same can be said for these as well :moo:

Blue, you first have to be the one I was referring to when I mentioned accusing the father and I never mentioned your name because you were NOT who I was talking about.

I haven't put any words in your mouth. I didn't even mention you in my post.

It is very sad. :rose:

I am so relieved that the shooter was not able to do more damage that he already did at the school. It could have been so much worse. I really hope little Jacob heals fully, poor baby. :candle:

#PrayersForJacob: Support pours in for 6-year-old SC school shooting victim

State Rep. Alan Clemmons, who said he is a friend of the family, gave an update on Jacob's condition in a Facebook post.

"The bullet ripped through little Jacob's femoral artery," Clemmons wrote. "He died twice, and was revived during medical transport and again during surgery. Once stabilized, he will face yet another surgery."
