Always comes up.
I think he worked limited hours because he wanted more free time. For what, I’ve no idea.
He would make the standard rate of any chiro & should have made enough to support himself in the manner he chose, imo.
With back injury claims from work & job related accidents, even in a rural area, I think he had ample patients.
Wonder if any IRS debt, hence discount for cash?
I am not one that has mentioned child support or pushed it but I would just point out, his being divorced in 2000 means nothing; we would have to know he never had a child with any other woman in another state for instance.
My dentist and chiropractor give discounts for cash payments. It saves them paying for a lot of office hours with billing insurance, coding, following up, etc. imo and payment is immediate or no discount is offered. However, if he had more than that reason for discounting for cash, the reasons I can think of for wanting cash are:
A legal judgment in some state whether for unpaid debt, something such as an injury suit, etc.
Bill collectors who can garnish;
Unpaid taxes;
Child support;
Lack of office support or lack of money to pay same to bill insurance, know the coding, etc.
An immediate need continually for a daily cash flow.
A bit of a humorous aside: I know people who have been servers at restaurants to put themselves through college. They get through college and get the job of their dreams and a great paycheck but miss those daily cash tips in their pocket lol. In all seriousness
I would add that if treatment is for an injury due to a work comp claim or an auto accident, sometimes months to years can go by while the claim/case is defended and no insurer will pay until they or their client is found responsible and that is, if they are found responsible. Small independent doctors of any kind can have a lot of nonpayment on the books which makes it difficult with a stream of income. When it does come it can be a windfall but I do not doubt often it is never paid either. This is jmo but I also know it from personal experience.
jmo and just speculation--a financial motive seems as likely as any.
