Court documents release more information on quadruple homicide

A knife was recovered at Isaak’s home inside the washer. The base of the gun was found inside a freezer. Police also found nine spent shell casings consistent with the number of rounds fired at the site of the attack in Mandan.

Officers say the home smelled like chlorine. The clothing the suspect was wearing on the day of the accused murders was also recovered from the home.

This is not quite true. Most of ND has really good cell service (reservation land is the exception). Most people here are not on a cash basis- some of the older people are. Most people do not actually carry cash at all anymore. Mandan is typically thought of as a "sleeper community" in that a lot of the residents work in Bismarck and live in Mandan. It has a very active young population. There are some "old farmers" that moved to town but not that many. The big change in Mandan came with the oil boom a few years ago. Although the oil country is techinically farther west, a lot of people still came into the area. Since there there has been an increase in all sorts of crime and violence.

I know this because I live in Mandan. I have lived in several other states and do not feel like we do not have services that other states have. Maybe less food options, but services are generally the same. We are not backwoods.

Also it is really common to have friends of friends here, I see it all the time with my local friends- so it wouldn't surprise me to see connections between RJR and some of the friends of CI. I doubt any of the victims would have driven to Washburn to see him- there are many many good chiropractors in the Bismarck/Mandan area.

My husband grew up in the same town as CI (he is a few years younger than CI). I tried to get info out of him last night but he didn't say much. Couldn't place him but my husband just wanted to go to sleep and not talk to me about it..
@smiley4642 - welcome to WS! It's always good to have locals join a case and provide valuable information.

My post was a direct response to member citing 20 years experience in real estate/property management-- who was surprised by reported cash around RJR.

I also have family in Carson, and closer to Mandan, and yup you still have to drive a couple miles from home to clear "no service" message on your phone. And on the first of the month, you'll find Uncle Monte with much more cash on hand than I'm comfortable with collected from his tenants. I don't believe I implied anybody "backwoods" - just offered possible explanation why property management firm might have cash around on April 1st. MOO

Complaint: Mandan murder suspect Chad Isaak tried to deceive surveillance video

The police affidavit portrays a grisly crime scene in which the Cobbs and Fuehrer were shot and stabbed several times. Fakler had multiple lacerations and stab wounds, and first responders tried in vain to resuscitate him. Fuehrer and the Cobbs were all dead when officers arrived; Lois Cobb's death was attributed to a cut of her neck, though she also had been shot, according to the affidavit.

A court affidavit made public Friday says three victims were shot and stabbed and the fourth was stabbed and that the attack was captured on surveillance video.

Even in the cities there are still lots of people that pay rent in cash. So I wouldn't be surprised if they sometimes had a lot of cash on hand at the END of the day on the 1st, but I wouldn't think they would on a Monday morning. Regardless, I don't think robbery was any kind of motive here.

The Latest: Complaint: Suspect sought to fool security cam

MANDAN, N.D. – The Latest on bodies found at a business in Mandan, North Dakota (all times local):

12:40 p.m.

A criminal complaint and affidavit accuses a North Dakota man of trying to deceive surveillance video and then bleaching weapons and his clothing after killing four people.

Chad Isaak is charged with four counts of murder in Monday's attack at RJR Maintenance and Management in Mandan, a town near the capital of Bismarck. All four slain were RJR employees.

Investigators say surveillance video shows Isaak entering RJR wearing brightly colored clothing, then leaving in dark clothing after the slayings. They say a search of his home found a knife with bent blade tip, parts of a handgun and clothing all bearing traces of chlorine bleach.

The complaint also says nine bullet casings were found at his house. The victims were believed to have been shot nine times. The victims were also stabbed.

The complaint doesn't give a possible motive

Lots of people use "headgear" to mean just a hat. However, it does seem a strange word to use here, so I am curious if it was some sort of helmet or mask.

It occurs to me that if Chad Isaak was a trained “registered” nurse, he could have made good money nursing, if he was not earning a living wage as a chiro. Nurses are in demand everywhere, I think. Even if not in ND, somewhere else. Surely a better idea than killing people.

Also, what years was he in chiropractic school? Is that 2 or 4 years? And why didn’t he have a license to practice chiropractic? Surely he knew that he needed a license. And where (what city) did he practice?
Had he not finished c school and had to return to school for a while? What did he do during the year his office was closed?

When was he divorced, and why did he move to ND?

Is there a link to this stuff? Thank you.

Mercedes

Chiro school w/o specialization looks to be apps 3.3 years.
I googled a few, out of curiosity.
But yeah, if he needed income, nursing was an option, if his license was in good standing. Moo

It was a great explanation. I suppose they may do it that way in some places, still - surprises me because RJR manage owner properties. This means the owners need/requires a hard paper trail. Cell phone service is hot / cold even in the large cities. Sounds like to me (and I didn't hear the charges) that if he was charged with robbery, or perhaps burglary, they did it because of the truck... something more they can at least charge him with, I suppose. There's just a lot more to the story than we know right now. Still, why RJR? Doesn't sound like he was hurting for money too bad.

I read "handgun" but don't see anything about "headgear." o_O

First person to find this complaint, wins a smiley-face emoji.

I don’t care how “disturbing” or “graphic” this damn thing is, I want to see it, and not summaries of it.

Actually, to massacre 4 local people says RAGE to me, and nothing about (stealing) money. MOO

I'm pretty sure the burglary charge just relates to entering the building to commit a crime (murder). You don't have to steal anything for a burglary charge. The motive remains a mystery at this point.

I hate emojis.
This is no incentive whatsoever.
