I haven't read the entire thread, so I am sorry if some of this has already been discussed. Here are my thoughts . . .
My initial thought when I saw this on the news was the CC was guilty. Part of this is based upon all that I've read, the recent trends in our society, and the fact that certain aspects - namely, the threats - made it seem far too strange.
Then, I felt bad for rushing to judgement.
What about this case, and this case alone, seems suspicious?
Motive
He was linked to woman in Florida. Beyond that we can only speculate regarding marital problems. Many of her family members have claimed no knowledge of any, which seems odd to me. And any theories about a possible realtionship with the female minister, or other women, are simply that - theories for now!
Manner of Death
Strangulation, if indeed that is accurate information, makes this a very personal crime. And from a forensic standpoint it is a much "safer", if you will, means of committing the crime. Why? Well, if CC is guilty he does not need to worry about blood spatter evidence, gun powder residue, or disposing of a murder weapon.
Timeline
Here is where I think he may be in trouble, if he is guilty. He told police, per the various sources of print media, that he left the home at 5:30 a.m. to go to the gym. The police were called at 7:00 a.m. This is a small window for the crime to occur.
Forensics will be able to determine the time of death via body temperature, digestion of food in stomach, etc. Cameras at his home and in the subdivision may be able to see him leaving.
If he is guilty, I think his statement locking him into a 5:30 a.m. departure could be crucial.
For now, I'll ignore the rumor that a neighbor heard screams at 3:00 a.m. It is just a rumor, and does not warrant discussion.
Miscellaneous
If CC is guilty, did he have scratches?
Did a camera near his gym, or at his gym, capture him arriving there? Did anyone see him there?
Computer evidence?
What number did the call to 911 come from?
If the message was painted on the wall at the home, as reported, did they check CC for paint spatter? If spray paint is used, we all know how it fogs up and can get on other things.
If there is a history of threats, were they all simply notes left in the mailbox? If there were notes, do the police have them? If not, why not?
Problems the Police Must Overcome
1. The crime occurred in CC's home. Naturally, his prints and DNA will be everywhere.
2. So far, no reports of marital issues by friends / family.
3. History of threats. Like it or not, this could raise reasonable doubt.
4. No murder weapon. DNA evidence in this will be difficult.
