Thanks Artie. I was just rehashing info and went back to an early article on the KDSK site. You just verified one of the things that has been bugging me - that CC changed his story about where he was. This is what was reported on the 6th:

Investigators have been assigned to the deaths of a woman and two children found strangled in their home Tuesday morning.

Sources said the murders likely happened very early, possibly around 3:30 a.m. or 4:00 a.m. in the 2800 block of Robert Drive. The husband, Chris Coleman, said he found the bodies after returning home from working overnight as a security guard at the Joyce Meyer Ministries complex near Fenton.

"Chris, the husband, was flailing his arms and everything and they got hold of them and held him down and sat him down on the concrete," said neighbor Harold Rushing.
Authorities identified the victims as 31-year-old Sheri Coleman, and her two children, 11-year-old Garett and nine-year-old Gavin.

The Columbia, Illinois Police Department called upon the Major Case Squad to help with the investigation. At an afternoon news conference, Major Jeff Connor with the Major Case Squad said there were no suspects and he would not comment on a motive.
"I can confirm that there was some police interaction prior to this but we're not going to get into any specifics about that," said Connor. "I don't want people to think that's the only thing we're looking at."
Connor asked anyone with information to call the Columbia Police Department at 618-281-5151.

Police widened their search outside the home for clues, even going through trash cans. In one trash can, they found a pair of surgical pants with stains on them.

Neighbors said the family had recently received threatening notes in their mailbox. The young mother had expressed her fear to neighbors.

Do you think his brother may be involved?

This is true and I agree with you, if a sicko was running around and loose, then someone should let us all know. I know that I have two kids and wife and if I had to go somewhere at night, like make a run to walgreens to get diapers, I don't want to leave them home alone now. The police are leaving the whole town in secrecy and not telling anything, which is scaring and worrying some. A lot of people thought CC did it on day one when he originally told the cops that he was working all night and then later in the day changed his story to being at home all night. You don't change your story on the first day!!!

Basically, if this goes on, till the end of this week and still no suspect or arrest, there will be protestors standing outside the police station demanding justice. There are way too many families in this town for something like this to happen and no one be arrested yet. Come'on, they called in the major case squad: that only happens when Columbia is desperate.

A spokesperson for Coleman's employer was asked if there were a concern for anyone else in the organization and he responded by saying something to the effect of it being an "isolated" incident.

Regardless of the flames, I still give credence to the threats and that the Coleman family was the only one targeted.

An "isolated" incident.

An upcoming conference May 16-19 in Tulsa ... this weekend.

It is a possibility and a possibility only that Coleman might have been involved in pre-conference security planning.

I never saw it reported that CC changed his story .. I saw someone on the SLPD saying reporters were interviewing neighbors and the information that Coleman was working had probably come from neighbors since they had previous knowledge that he worked nights and just assumed he was at work that night.

So .. can anyone unequivocally provide a source to support the contention that "CC changed his story..." ????

Artie....

Do you know of anyone who works in the medical field that lives on the Coleman's Street where they found the stained scrubs?

  • #806
Artie ... you can clear this up. With reports that the mailbox had been "tampered" with .. that could mean several things .. it was physically damaged or it was "tampered" with by the depositing of the threats.

Are your mailboxes on the curb? Are they keyed or open? Just thinking if the boxes were locked, one would have to "tamper" with it to place something inside other than what was deposited by US Postal Service.

ARTIE

I didn't mean to scare you off, just be careful what you post about yourself (your location to the Coleman house and etc...)

Greetings Analytical,

You mentioned that your neighbor was a criminal defense attorney a while back. Is this a neighbor like next door? or next desk? Also, didn't you say you knew someone who knew the Coleman's or you knew the Coleman's?

Does anyone know when Chris deleted his MySpace?

Woops, my apologies Analytical,

I just found the message I was thinking about:

Message #568
>>I am acquainted with someone who works there .. the employees are not to discuss the case and perhaps Meyer is already privy to the threats and the nature of them from CC himself.<<

So...you didn't mention knowing one of the Coleman's -- sorry my memory gets kinda crunched at times.

Also Message #557
>>It is applicable both in civil and criminal.. but I can verify with my neighbor who is a criminal defense attorney if you're still not satisfied but he would say what I've said.<<

I don't know why -- but when I read the above two things I started scratching my head and thinking, "Does Analytical work for Margulis" -- what a dumb thought, eh?

Hello Gang,

Howdy our lil ChesterGal,

If it wasn't "pretend" that you heard on that newscast -- was it "portend" or "upend" or "prefend" or "geekend"? ;)

Don't you just wish that these newscasts had the scripting underneath them (forgot what they call that text of what is being spoken, like when watching a foreign movie -- dang old brain) -- I mean if they did, you could just catch that text and slap it here. ;)

Oh... and Mr. Pertz -- that was a bit of a "I know something you don't know" about the autopsy. What do you know? Can you tell us?

Chicago family says 'goodbye' to Columbia murder victims

Sheri Weiss Coleman's family got the chance to say goodbye to her and her boys on Monday in Chicago.

The big Italian family gathered near where she grew up, in the Cicero and Berwyn areas. There was a big spread of food downstairs at the funeral home, while upstairs there was a lot of hugging, reminiscing and a video featuring Sheri Coleman, 31, and her sons Garett, 11 and Gavin, 9.

The memorial service took a court order but gave Angela DeCicco a chance to be with family as she mourned her only daughter and only grandchildren.

She grew up in Largo, and went to the same high school as Sheri. It appears she's a couple of years younger. (In one of those weird twists of sleuthing fate - I live in Largo too.)

Analytical - how close are you to JMM?

subtitles or "closed captioning for the hearing impaired" ...the latter probably requiring some special software or .. I wouldn't know how closed captioning works on the Internet .. someone looking on or in probably does

well, in that case, first of all, I didn't see my last post on here, but can a moderator remove it then? I am not terribly worried because I know that this is an isolated case.

Next, the scrubs: the man who lives across the street from the coleman's, wife, is a nurse and wears scrubs to and from work. However, the scrubs were found in the next door's trash, I think, so it would not have been the nurse.

Second, mailbox: the mailbox is on teh curb and has a wooden post and an old silver metal typical domed top mailbox look with red flag. It looks like someone smashed it with a baseball bat a few times. I know my family got a good look at it as it is right next to the flowers, teddy bears and such that the community has been putting out for them. I know I put out some flowers for mother's day in the pile and it is right next to the mailbox.

Good find. Now if she were a good friend of Sheri why would she delete her myspace? Now if somehow involved with CC then I can understand it.

Hiya Analytical,

Gads, I wasn't assuming -- I'm just an old paranoid WSr :) I was just scratching my head and thinking -- anything goes in this sleuthing thing, you know kinda "What the heck is up?," and some of the people that have hit this site during major sleuthing events, woah wowza we have seen some doozies -- well it has been interesting. Didn't mean to offend -- I had hoped you would catch that :)

But your criminal defense neighbor next door -- were you able to ask them the question you had suggested you would? It was in reference to this from Mikey'sMomMom:

>>I would agree with you if this was the first 24 hrs after the murders being it has been days I disagree. Also Im sure with his line of work they already had his prints.IMO its either a palm or hand print to exclude him if innocent why need it ordered by the courts. The quicker LE can rule him out the sooner they would be able to look at others. If innocent wouldnt he want the killer found as soon as possible?<<

You were going to ask your neighbor about this. I know people are busy -- but might you ask your neighbor and let us know?

Also...you were asking ArtieGumshoe about the mail boxes:

>>Artie ... you can clear this up. With reports that the mailbox had been "tampered" with .. that could mean several things .. it was physically damaged or it was "tampered" with by the depositing of the threats.

Are your mailboxes on the curb? Are they keyed or open? Just thinking if the boxes were locked, one would have to "tamper" with it to place something inside other than what was deposited by US Postal Service.<<

I was trying to find you a photo of the Coleman's mailbox -- there are a scad of clips in this thread that show pictures of the front of their house, and some films. I just couldn't keep digging for the graphic, but you could find a graphic by hitting the links starting at the beginning of this thread.

What I saw was a typical run of the mill type of rural route mailbox (on the curb). You know, you flip the front of the box down and slide stuff in. We have one like this -- we cannot keep it locked (or we don't get mail), we have to leave the lock in the box so that after the mail person delivers they can lock it.

But you asked a good question -- did the Coleman's put up a new mailbox because someone mucked with theirs?
