''We have uncovered some surprising details into Kyron's case. Things that will surprise you and that you'll think about later on. Learning these things has caused great stress on the investigators. We have knowledge of things we don't want to know about ~ that we wish we didn't'."

IMO, this entire statement is related to Kyron's case and Kyron's case alone.

''We have uncovered some surprising details into Kyron's case.

Things that will surprise you (about Kyron's case) and that you'll think about later on.

Learning these things (about Kyron's case) has caused great stress on the investigators.

We have knowledge of things (in Kyron's case) we don't want to know about ~ that we wish we didn't'."

I also think he could have misspoke that last sentence meaning 'We have knowledge of things, things we know about, that we wish did not happen'.

I think it sounds like he is referring to abuse against Kyron.

That is not the way it works though Aedrys. It is not LEs job to support anyone other than the victim (Kyron).

Weeks went by and LE knew that the internet and media were chewing up Mark Lunsford and his family and Steve Greone when his children went missing yet the police never said a word to ease the rampant suspicions and horrible accusations that turned out to be flat out false.

LE has said they have not had any contact with Terri since she obtained her lawyer so ,therefore imo, they are not talking to her attorney and frankly he would be remiss to believe anything LE has to say at this point.

I think it is just as likely that they have done background checks on others who were at the school that have been interviewed and have gotten search warrants and discovered some disturbing information about some of them.

Also I believe a lot of the tips received were not about Terri, but something known by someone else, who knows something about others, who may have had access to the school that day.

IMO

Unfortunately, I think you could be very much on target with your comments. :no:

I wonder who Staton is referring to as the "you" here? He's addressing the media. But is he talking to them or talking to the locals or talking to the general public? This is the most mysterious statement to me. "things" that will surprise you, surprise who? and why things that one will think about "later on". Gosh, I wish they'd quit talking in riddles, its so frustrating.

Interesting post,IMO. Staton was asked by a reporter " We all think we know what happened.But,will we surprised in the end ? " (paraphrasing).

Therefore, I would take from Staton's statement that : although we might *think * we know what happened to Kyron, we likely do not ... I wonder if LE has some information that Kyron might be alive. The " things we wish we didn't know ", could that possibly pertain to trafficking ? I realize that LE knows all about trafficking,but, perhaps Staton is refering specifically to Kyron,to something they know about Kyron in relation to trafficking ?

" Things that one will think about later on " ? Possibly many of us (the public) will look back and see how wrong we were ? IDK...

What I find interesting is that apparently KH & DY were unaware that the investigation was shifting to a *task force*.

I get the feeling that LE doesn't share as much with the parents as we may have believed.

The sheriff himself said that he had not wanted to announce this until he had all of his plans regarding the TF in order, and after he had talked to chiefs of jurisdictions that he wished to include.

He said that he was pushed to show his hand after his appearance at the Portland Business Alliance breakfast, where he had mentioned establishing a TF.

He had not planned to do the PC on Wednesday to announce the TF's formation. Seeing as how Desiree and Kaine were enroute to and from the Oprah show, he wasn't able to discuss this with them.

I think it's indicative of nothing but that Staton's announcement on the TF was pushed up, because he had discussed it a little it at the breakfast. I certainly would not read into it that the SO is not sharing what they are learning with the parents. I believe it's obvious that there is coordination between the SO and the parents.

iirc, there was also a meeting planned with KH and DY for later in the week. I remember a post saying that their oprah appearance didn't leave must *rest of the week* for that to happen in. I think he planned to tell them at that meeting.

I do not like this cryptic statement at all. It does make it sound like they have found something that people are not going to sit well with, bad enough a child is missing but IMO this makes it seem like there is far more going on. Way to make the community feel at ease...just saying.

Hi Sorrell, I think we have seen many cases where LE has not been forthcoming even to the parents. Like the Elizabeth Smart case. They were told almost nothing.

I guess I'm conservative, but don't think LE has any obligation to share info about the case with anyone except the prosecutor. In Kyron's case there might have been more info given to K and D because Tony is in LE. IMO

TY for your input, Puf. I always appreciate your insight, as well as the insight of everyone here.

Here's the thing, though. The decision to streamline the investigation to a task force has most likely been in the works for more than just the past few days (especially considering the fact that Staton mentioned that it's partly due to budgetary concerns). I doubt that Staton woke up Wednesday morning and decided to *down-size* the investigation to a task force that is more streamlined, IMO. I suspect he has been planning to make that decision for some time - especially given his statements about how much this investigation has cost thus far (over a million dollars - the most expensive in MCSO's history - according to statements from the MCSO & the MSM).

At this time I would also like to say that I find it alarming that Sheriff Staton would *inadvertently* reveal the status of a criminal investigation involving a missing/endangered child (i.e. down-sizing to a task force) in a Business Alliance breakfast meeting before his staff was fully prepared to discuss it with the media and/or the concerned public.

Since I believe that this *task force* has been in the works for more than a few days, I stand by my *feeling* that LE probably doesn't share as much info with the parents as we may have believed.

In fact, I recall that a few weeks back when new searches were underway in various locations, the parents stated to the media that they were unaware of the searches & also stated that they learned about them via the media.

Hi, Sorrell... thanks for the kind words...

I believe that the parents are being kept abreast of developments on an "as needed" basis. I am sure that there are some aspects of the investigation to which they are not privy. If I recall correctly, the sheriff said that this movement toward a task force was necessitated fiscally and strategically. And I'm sure he'd been weighing this for awhile, considering the mounting cost of the investigation.

The good thing is that the team will include members who have been a part of the investigation since June 4. With the reams of stuff they have, it'll be interesting to see how the case develops from here on out.

Speaking for myself only, sometimes more can be done with several dedicated workers than can be done with dozens, as it is easier to focus on tasks and to decide what should be included and what should be excluded.

In my opinion, the MCSO must have amassed a pile of tips and evidence, and now the task force begins the job of sorting through and building a case to hand to the DA.

IMO (as far as speculation in terms of what the parents may or may not know), the bottom line is: Regardless of whether or not one of the victim's step-parents is coincidentally LE in another jurisdiction (who is also uninvolved in the legal/official investigation of this case), I don't believe that the MCSO has divulged any pertinent info/evidence to any of the parents (bio, step, or otherwise).

IMO, the interaction between LE & all the parents (bio, step, or otherwise)) during the course of this investigation has been restricted to soliciting information and not necessarily revealing information.

I have never believed that the bio parents (or the LE step parent) have been given pertinent or crucial info by LE regarding this case. I believe they've been asked thousands of questions, and may have been asked their opinions about certain things, but I don't believe they've been made privy to any *inside info* that LE may or may not have.

I remember the official statements of LE when they said that the information in the statements of the parents did not come from the MCSO.

MOO

I think you're right Sorrell. And I'm betting that much of what Desiree thinks about Terri is based on having known her several years ago.

:eek::eek::eek:

We have read that child trafficking is high in Portland. It would be easiest to carry it off in a more rural area shaded and shielded by tall leafy trees so I could see Newberry Rd as the perfect location for an operation like this.

How could it go on for years without LE knowing about it? I do not believe LE would turn a blind eye to it. That is where the rub is and I come back to a bit of reality.

It still is a spooky drive even on a bright sunny day :innocent:

bbm

Yes - that's where the rub is, IMO.

Thank goodness for all these outside federal agencies that have been involved in the investigation.

It strains credulity to believe that if serious criminal activity (of the sort that has been alluded to here) has been occurring in the area, that local LE (i.e. MCSO, PPB, et al.) were unaware of it, and are now allegedly *surprised* by it.

IMO, they were either aware if it beforehand & chose to ignore it (for whatever reason), or they have just now discovered it. Neither scenario inspires confidence.

Where I live - LE is *surprised* by nothing that occurs within their jurisdiction.

I haven't seen this posted...former Multnomah Sheriff, Bernie Giusto, talks about the case:

Bernie Giusto said Friday the new task force speaks volumes about the case.
“Well, I think more than anything it means there’s no place to go right away," he said.
<snip>
Giusto said he does not know details about the criminal investigation into Kyron's disappearance, but he thinks mistakes have been made. He said too much emphasis has been placed on Kyron's stepmother, Terri Horman, and other potential suspects haven’t been considered.
<snip>
"I believe there are a couple other avenues you could take and that really is better communication with the public. There’s no reason now not to lay out specifics in this case. What can it harm?" he said.

http://www.kptv.com/news/25058719/detail.html

I think he probably downplays the search warrants in this case and he has had his own problems, resigning because of ethics issues, but I think his opinions are interesting.

I don't know anything about Giusto (except that he is a former MC Sheriff), so I have no idea how much credence to give to what he says, but he does say this:

"Task forces are usually a greater benefit when they start the investigation because, when they start in the middle, they’re not going to start in the middle, they’re going to start over again," Giusto said.

As a local, I can say that Guisto does not have much clout at all. He has a loooong history of questionable ethics dating back decades. He had to resign under a dark cloud and nobody cared when he left. JMO (and the opinion of a lot of other Portlanders.)

Good points.

I may be misremembering, but didn't Staton make a reference to having made this decision last week? I guess I need to go back over the transcript and videos.

Unless they are 'stressed' as the Sheriff said because the gig is up and if LE was aware of the activity and let it ride. In that video it says LE was aware of it and it was ongoing for 20 years. I just can not believe that of our men in blue {well green here ;}

It would be so earthshaking it would pass down the line of every agency working on the case. You think Sam Adams had problems :croc:
