I'll join the crazed flourescent lighting club. I haven't been in a mall in over 20 years because of it. I only go to WalMart at very early morning hours and hungover. Otherwise, I can't go in.

Hospitals are the same with lightening, then add the chemical smell to it and I'm a goner.

ETA: Yeah it's wiki, but we can follow the links:

As a child and into young adulthood, the thing that got me most about florescent lighting was the high pitched, piercing sound. I would always have to control my reaction because if not I could have looked absolutely nutso covering my ears and squirming in attempts to stop that noise. I'd ask others if they heard it also and very, very few ever did.

Fellow CFLC (crazed fluorescent lighting club) members, did any of you also hear / were bothered by that noise? TIA

The Sugar Bowl!!!!!! YES!
I refer to Scottsdale as "Snobsdale". It's kinda sad.......but whatcha gonna do?
I went to Scottsdale High my freshman year, Ha, Ha! I understand they tore that down, "Beaver Paradise" is no more. How funny they had a mascot that as far as I know doesn't even exist in Arizona? Spent the rest of High School at Saguaro, Go Sabercats!!!!

OMG! Do you remember the "Ranch House"? They built Farrell's Ice cream Parlor right across the street from them. 2 little old ladies flipping the best burgers and fries around!

Saguaro ... Hmmmff! I went to Chaparral High.... Mine was the graduating class that included 10 boys that ended up on the front page of the Republic for that Huge cocaine ring bust.
My Mother perusing the mug shots over her morning coffee ... "Oh dear you dated him" ... "And THAT boy was your prom date!" .. Good Times.

LOL. Ok trust me, me too. I could not stand her, personally, and her constant objections and wanting to take charge of everything during sidebars.

My point is that we can all think those thoughts, but it's another thing to say it. I think Juan has the kind of sense of humor that, if it was the other way around and JW had said that to him, he would have just laughed it off. But we all see how uptight JW is. So Juan should have known that she would make a big deal of it and have Nurmi come back the next day and say Juan should be reprimanded or whatever the term is.

It was crude, but remember Wilmott during, well, the whole trial? She's a bit...um, let's just say JM was probably trying to get through to her in a way that she would understand and pay attention to.

Someone like that, who's defending someone like CKJA, would make me so mad, I don't know that I'd be able to be in the same room, let alone have banter with her.

I know, right? I said it up-thread a bit but it's sooo slow here, I would love to have something new to read/ponder/discuss.

Because you can only talk about calamari and wet flan and fluorescent lighting and boogers for so long.

We could bombard Dr Drew with emails begging him to do a show about the sidebars and questions. I predict that HLN will be full-tilt-boogie Zimmerman once the trial begins on Monday, but I'm holding out some hope that Dr Drew will throw us a CKJA bone once in a while.

I'm just gonna put it out there: I think JW has a chronic case of having her panties in a bunch.
Ok, I said it. :truce:

Afternoon WSers.
Can we talk about hummingbirds today?
Has anyone ever used the concentrated nectar for hummingbirds? I broke my old feeder last Fall and bought a new one. The hummers showed up a couple of weeks ago and I felt so bad for them- they were looking for the old feeder. I use to just make the nectar fom water and sugar, but decided to try the concentrate. I don't really know if the hummers like it. I don't know if they are just frightened to see me peeking at them and fly off or they don't like the new nectar.
Any thoughts?

Yes, the NOISE. Especially worse right before they flicker a few days and finally go out, much to my relief. Usually a high pitched hum, low sound level, but I can hear it.

(Haven't been in a Target in about 20 years either come to think of it.)

Years ago I used it. They liked the homemade color free sugar water better, but still drank some of the concentrated, just not as much.

I don't think I've experienced that but I can hear a dog whistle. Aren't they supposed to be soundless to humans?

There was a REALLY annoying ringing sound here yesterday and no one could hear it except me and one other guy. Turns out it was some alarm and they turned it off but how no one else heard it is behind me. I almost stabbed my ears off.

I like squid.

And mountain oysters.

And liver.

And heart.

And pig ears.

And trotters.

Just checking in :seeya:

I think you're right!!

i think i can add to the depersonalization discussion..

i get this from time to time. the first time it happened was in high school when i was driving. it happens sometimes when i drive and its very scary. i later learned that it's just part of how my panic attacks manifest. i use klonopin as needed for it. it also happens to me everytime i go to Target (must be the flourescent lights!) Mine isn't linked to any traumatic event that I'm aware of, I guess it's just the way my body is wired. Whenever it happens I literally feel like I'm going to drop dead, its truly terrifying

Uh....kinda wondering here if this phenomenon has anything to do with the ingestion of hallucinogenics when one is young and dumb.
So I just threw my name in the hat, what can I say? It was the 70's!
Seriously, for me it's almost like tripping, but not in a GOOD way because I haven't done anything to cause it and since sobriety, ANYTHING that is not "normal reality" and I'm not in CONTROL mentally, is not GOOD for me.:scared:

My mom has zillions of feeders and hummingbirds. She buys POUNDS and POUNDS of sugar. She makes it homemade--never uses concentrate, she says homemade is best. :)

Yep, very unnerving.

I did not take LSD or shrooms at age 6, lol.

But that theory makes sense.
