My brother and his family are moving in with mom, that is where the problem is. They can share with mom, but sending money to them is like putting them down. We were/are poor, but mom and dad were extremely proud folks. Dad died not asking for money. He needed it, he left a whole lot of debt. But, if I send it to mom's house I have to send it to "The XX Family", not to my brother. Sigh.

Send him some money thru Western Union that he has to pick up at a grocery store and she'll never know.

As a medical professional, I am going to defend the medical care in the US. I think your gripe is with the insurance companies and trial lawyers and NOT with those who actually give medical care. I can assure you that when you go into the ER, the nurses and doctors are not concerned with your ability to pay. They are first and foremost only concerned with diagnosing and treating the patients before them. In over 30 years of working in med-surg, ICU, and ERs, I have never seen any doctor choose not to do their job and treat their patients accordingly. I personally have never treated a patient differently because of their ability to pay.

As the wife of a physician in private practice, I hear his frustrations on a daily basis having had to fight with insurance companies. He does not like that insurance companies have the audacity to tell him how to practice medicine. He is an excellent physician and goes to bat for his patients when the insurance companies deem that a certain test or scan is not medically necessary. He usually wins.

Another problem contributing to higher health care costs is having to also practice defensive medicine. We chart on all our patients as if an attorney was going to read them. Work ups by physicians are done with the same mind set. Most physicians can diagnose and treat a medical condition without a million dollars worth of testing, but because of the underlying ever present threat of lawsuits, they are so ordered. Medical malpractice rates have skyrocketed. It is pretty sad that cardiologists and oB GYNS are having to pay over 200K a year in malpractice insurance premiums.

My husband did not go into medicine for the money. He went into it because he loves it. I certainly did not go into nursing for the money as I made 60K/year with 30 years experience and I worked hard and did my job well. I personally would not go anywhere else in the world for medical care except the United States. Our system is not perfect, but with a few exceptions, our doctors and nurses are some of the most dedicated and excellent professionals around.

Thanks for reading. JMV :seeya:

My gripe is the insurance and drug companies. That other countries can do it just as well or better for less tells me a lot.

Jodi is in a solitary type of lockdown, isn't she?

IMO, it doesn't really matter when they do the next phase. Again, it will end in a 'No verdict'. The judge will sentence her to natural life.

We don't know that. Many people said they wouldn't convict her either.
It took two total trials for Jason Young to be sentenced (LWOP vs lower charges vs aquittal). They got it right the second time. Menendez Bros got life the second time. This isn't common but it isn't unusual either. I have no doubt that if/when they get there they will give her a sentence.

It should take less than 3 weeks to re-try the penalty phase only. SHOULD...if JSS could keep it how it should have been kept.It wouldn't cost that much more. Now if it had been a hung jury at the criminal trial then yeah it would be an even bigger expense to re-try all that but penalty phase alone? No. Nothing like the costs with the criminal trial.
Yes DP qualified lawyers have other things going on...however this DP qualified lawyer should have her current DP case as priority, since it is almost finished. It is obvious they are dragging it out because they can and because they are being allowed to. With Nurmi's filing and her doing this, they are both just trying to push it into JSS's hand or delay it as long as they can. It isn't even about JA for them, it seems it is about them and their issues with the case.

These are some whiny DT lawyers, and an embarrassment. Just sayin'.

Great idea! Does WalMart do Western Union? He works at one. If not, I'll just google local grocery stores for him.

Whatever the law is in AZ, I want it followed to the letter. If it says Jodi is entitled to 2 tries at the penalty phase before the Judge sets the sentence, so be it.

The last thing I'd want is to have the whole thing overturned on this ridiculous technicality.

Next year?! Can they postpone that long?

Not only that, but why does this convicted killer still need a team of two. The state didn't have a team of two. Why can't Nurmi handle it alone if JW is refusing to cooperate with the schedule ? :stormingmad:

Yes, as long as Death Penalty is on the table you have counsel and co-counsel.

Don't be mad, they do have other cases, but not a year off. And, I don't think the Judge can or will allow a year off. That is fine when they are first appointed, but I am thinking the 2 whiny and embarrassing lawyers, still want off the case. That is the point of Court appointed Capital Murder cases, the client sucks. Unless there is a major issue, they cannot get off it now. Judge S will put her foot down.

(Although most of the Motions to Withdraw must be understood also. JA is uncooperative, and does her own thing. No lawyer can help with that, and they needed to file to have it on record that JA is ruining her own case. That is why Wilmott looked so shocked and grinned when a no sentence came back. She felt she worked her magic somehow making the jury believe in JA, even if JA was blowing it by any and every means.)

Think I'll listen to 6 hours of not my style performed Beethoven, nah, I'll go nuts if it is not performed extremely passionately. Here is the crap channel for those on a bad date, haha. Scratch that, listen to this guy perform, his Debussy is out of this world, his LP's are out of print and it is not that long ago. A fading art.

I'm so sorry for your brother...he's lucky to have you as a sister!

Your mother is wrong. Period. No, exclamation point.

I like Daisymae's idea of using Western Union. That sounds like a good way to go.

I'm sure knowing you are there for him helps immeasurably and any money you can help him with will be appreciated.

If you can afford it, you could offer to pay his first month's rent, or part of it, when he's ready to move out of mom's back into his own home.

Yes, the C.M. is unruly & uncooperative but this was the move that exposed her insolence~discharging her counsel and assuming the representation of her defense herself. Who knows how long she might have pursued that function if she had not been caught perpetrating a fraud on the court with those forged letters libeling Travis? It wasn't that she realized she was out of her depth, she was red handed. It was at this point that Nurmi might have presented an argument exempting him from further responsibility toward this mutinous know-it-all. Whatever he presented, unfortunately for him, was insufficient.

Tuba, I love your descriptions of whosherdoodle!

Mutinous know-it-all.......:floorlaugh:

On another topic, I need advice or helpful hints.

I just found out my brother's house burned. He has a wife and 2 teens. He has had a rough financial life trying to make it. They were 1 year away from rent to own.

We are a very dysfunctional family, so I do not know how to help. He lives far away. Should I just send some money? I told my mom (hard to talk with her but I am doing it in fear she will die and I will regret not trying, yet again, and again, and again) to tell to let me know what I can do from here. They will not, that is the way it is.

Any advice is helpful, and, thank you so much in advance, if any is given. I will gladly take good and bad. :)

Best wishes to you.
Perhaps a funny card, or two, a month.
A small amount of cash, with each,
might come at a moment when a ray of mental sunshine is needed.
It may be easier to open the door on their hearts, to recieve your gift.
Guilt, shame, worry, anger, sorrow, can hide behind a telephone.
" No,thanks, we'll be fine."
This way they know you are there, with-out feeling they have failed.

I love your passion.
Never give up, and we'll know the peace of having tried. :toast:

Does your brother have any vices such as drinking, drugs? If he does I would send a care package like some canned foods, socks ect. If he is responsible and is good with cash then I would send money. I hope he had renters insurance it's a small price to pay and you can get enough back to get back on your feet.

I would want one that is going to fight for me and do what it takes to show I am innocent (of course that would be the only way I personally would be involved in the system...wrong accused). If I was truly innocent I would hate to have either of them as my attorneys.

This I agree with...depending on their circumstances.
